After the war he resumed his studies at Lebanon Valley College, graduating with a BS in Chemistry in 1948. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1953 with a PhD in Analytical Chemistry. He then worked at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE from 1953 to 1963. He received one patent. He was transferred to the Martinsville, VA nylon plant and worked there from 1963 to 1986. He then accepted a position as chemist with Courtaulds Performance Films Martinsville, VA where he is still employed.

She and George were married between their Junior and Senior years at college. She was a public school music teacher and also a substitute teacher. She later became a Revenue Enforcement Agent for the PA Dept. of Revenue. She retired in 1991.
She now volunteers at the local public library, the Lancaster County Historical Society and helps as a tutor in the local elementary school,

Note: George graduated from Annville, Lebanon Co., PA High School in 1940. In 1941 he joined the US Navy. He was aboard the USS Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor on 7 Dec 1941. He was one of the 32 men rescued after being trapped in the capsized ship (see National Geographic Magazine, Dec. 1991). He was aboard the USS Helena at Guadalcanal, the USS Crater, and the USS Dixie at Bikini for the A-Bomb test.
After WWII he went to Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Lebanon Co., PA and graduated in 1951. He then went to work for the RCA Corp. in Lancaster, PA. He became active in politics and was the Lancaster County Democratic County Chairman for several years. He was appointed Deputy Secretary of Labor and Industry for the Comm. of PA in 1971. He served in that capacity until 1980. He then became an industrial specialist for the US Dept. of Defense, working out of the York, PA office. He is now retired.

Note: In his memoirs, JAW,SR., states that "when Adam was a little boy he had a good companion - a big shepherd dog. One day they got lost and his mother did not know where they got to do they look for him and found him laying with his head on the dog's body, but the dog kept watch over him....When father was a young man, first year that they were married, he was hauling stones to Lebanon and was unloading, the crow bar hit him in the side and that never got right so at my age of 16 years he got sick and could not work, then I had to run the work through. He could do the planning, and two years later father died, then 1 had the planning and the work till I got 21 years old, then we quit farming. Made sale and the family went apart - one here and the other there. I went to my Grandfather Ebersole."
After ADAM and ELIZABETH were married they lived and farmed on FRANTZ'S farm south of Annville. In 1878 ADAM inherited the farm from his father.
JAW,SR says of his mother, "One day mother and the hired girl went to the mountain for blackberries and mother was bitten from a rattle snake and got so poisoned that the doctors could not take it all out of her system so she was sickly for two years and then died very young." She died at the age of 30.
After her death ADAM married Pricilla Yeagley. She and ADAM had five children.
In ADAM'S Will (LebCCH - W-125) he leaves "to my oldest son, John A. Witmeyer the horse, Bugey and Harness he uses for driving & Riding. I give and bequeath to my oldest Daughter Annie Witmeyer her mother's Bed & Bedding Bureau and Table. I order and direct that my beloved wife Pricilla and my Children shall Continue to Farm my said Farm after my decease, in the same way and manner as if I was living among them yet, and keep the same in good repair and Condition and pay off the yearly interest on the money I Borrowed and owe also pay off yearly two hundred dollars to my Sister Catharine Light.
In case my said wife and Children could not make the money up in Farming said Farm to pay the yearly Interest and the sum of two hundred dollars to my said Sister Catharine Light or my Son John A. Witmyer(sic) should marry and would like to begin Housekeeping for himself, Then I order and direct my herinafter named Executors to sell my Stock and Personal Property on Public Sale. Provided first that they give to my said wife Pricilla all House and Kitchen Furniture she needs during her natural liftime. I also order and direct my Executors to sell my Real Estate on Public or Private Sale on the best advantage they can for my wife and Children and out of the proceeds of such sales to buy a good Dwelling House not exceeding twelve hundred dollars For the use and benefit of my said wife as Long as she is my widow, and also have the sum of Twenty five Hundred dollars stand on the Real Estate and the Interest of said sum to be paid yearly to my said wife for her support during the time she continues to be my widow....All the rest and residue of my Real and Personal estate...I give and bequeath unto all my Children Share and Share alike. Signed - Adam Witmoyer." The Will was written 250ct 1879 and ADAM died 12 Dec 1879 at the age of 43.
ADAM died the year before the 1880 Federal Census was taken. The Census showed that Priscilla was living in S. Annville Twp. with the children JOHN, Emma, Clara, Lizzie, Frank & Monroe.
ADAM'S farm was sold in 1882 for $9,305.96. It consisted of 81 acres & 111 perches & it sold for $114.10 per acre.
Mentioned in the inventory of ADAM'S estate (LebCCH C-49 & 1-21) were, among other things, 3 head of horses & 2 mules, 8 head of horned cattle, 6 head of young cattle, 7 head of sheep, 2 large wagons, thrashing machine, corn sheller, wind mill, corn rye and oats in the bushel, wood stove, coal stove, iron kettle, sewing machine, kitchen dresser, dining table & chairs, one bed and bedstead, tumbel bed & beding, one chest wash stand and copper kettle, sink table and wood chest all valued at $1179.00.
