Title: Stiegel News - Manheim, Lancaster Co., 17 Feb 1977
Note: "She was known as Pretty Betsy Bartruff and often rode a lovely coal black horse around the Borough. She had a piano that she played in the front room of her home, the town's people would gather outside, look in through the window and listen as she played. In those early days, the boys would come for the girls in the evening and would carry their spinning wheels to another girl's home, where the girls would sit and spin together and the boys talked together and watched their girls. Elizabeth worked on an interesting little water color sketch book, dated 1820 in which she painted different flowers and an eagle. She also wrote, or copied poetry, in a composition book and on separate papers, as the love song: "As I walked out through the country lanes" and there is word and poetry puzzle dated 1815, which we have never been able to solve."
