4A Adam Wiseman of Pennsylvania and Ohio

History: Adam Wiseman is said to have “crossed the Susquehanna River in about 1782 and settled near Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA”.  We have found several of his descendants who moved into Ohio.  It would appear possible that Adam was a brother of George Wiseman and that they were sons of George Wiseman, however this is only speculation.  Adam is of the age (b-Before 1755) to have been the s/o Isaac Wiseman, Sr., but if he was “Of Foreign Birth”, as was indicated on the U.S. Census by his son George, then this is not possible!  Much research still needs to be done on this line, in PA, VA and in OH.  Very few researchers have been contacted who are working the Adam Wiseman lineage. - - - R.D.W.

Note: In 1870, George is age 77, b-PA and a retired farmer; States his Father is of foreign birth. Much research needs to be done on the family of 4A Adam Wiseman, especially in Cumberland & Bedford Co., PA, to determine the names and marriages of his daughters.

4A Adam Wiseman (b-Before 1755 and is said to have been Of Foreign Birth; d-After 1800 and before 1810, probably at Bedford Co., PA, but possibly at Wythe Co., VA; m-c1781?, possibly at Bedford Co., PA?, to Elizabeth (?), who was b-before 1775 at (?); Adam purchased 250 acres at Bedford Co., PA in 1784; By 1790 Adam & Elizabeth had three sons, John, Jacob & George; By 1800 Adam & Elizabeth had 4 sons & 5 daughters and this is the last time Adam appears on the census; In 1810 Elizabeth appears on the census at Wythe Co., VA with 3 sons, 1 daughter & living in the neighborhood is George, b-1784-94 and John, b-1775-84; We can speculate they moved to Wythe Co., VA after Adam’s death to be near Elizabeth’s family; By 1820, Elizabeth and her family had moved to Augusta Twp., Columbiana Co., OH.)

Note: Diane DeCenso, a Wiseman family genealogist, discovered there were two Adam Wisemans, both having children with similar names, but whose birthdates varied slightly.  Diane is given credit for researching and finding the records of 4A Adam Wiseman, of Bedford Co., PA and of 44A Adam Wiseman, of Perry Co., OH. From the U.S. Census we can establish their children as follows:

Rufus Wiseman & Anise (Annie) McCarty

Posted by: Barbara Date: September 04, 2000 at 21:10:24

I am looking for information on Rufus Wiseman and his wife Anise (Annie) McCarty and their descendants. They were married 8 June 1873 Meigs Co, OH. She was born 24 March 1854 in Meigs Co (possibly Salem Twp), OH. Thus far I have found four children: Child Wiseman b 15 Dec 1873 Salem Twp; Mary L. Wiseman b 25 Oct 1875 Salem Twp; Sarah M. Wiseman b 11 Oct 1877 Salem Twp and Mabel Blanch Wiseman b 9 Sep 1879 Salem Twp. There may be more children and the Wiseman family may have left Salem Twp. Other siblings of Anise McCarty went to WI, IA, CA. Thank you for any help.
