Hello Mr. Wiseman, Thank you for you interest in responding to Wiseman family queries (genforum).  My ancestors were Alexander Dickey (1746-Ireland to 1835-South Carolina) and Ann Wiseman (1777-New Berry Cnty, S.C.) daughter of Robert Wiseman and Margaret Jefford.

I had heard of a book by Edgar Stephens "The Robert & Margaret Wiseman Family" and had written for information about it. I was delighted to hear from a relative of Mr Stephens. She wrote back and indicated that the book had been of very limited production and was not available, however she very kindly printed out pages from it about Robert Wiseman. They apparently came over in 1767 on the ship "Nancy" when Ann was 10 and settled on Royal Grant land in South Carolina.

Would you have any "leads" as to where I could find more information on the Wiseman's?   Thanks much,

Jeannine Dickey  <jdic@excite.com>

Hello Bob;  Thanks much for your e-mail. Being fairly new to genealogical research, I am not sure how you would like the information, that is sent to you, formatted. I, too have been in communication with Michelle McAda who is a "cousin". She has apparently done quite a bit of research on the Dickey's.

Have you looked at the book "John and Alexander Dickey Immigrants - 1772" by Grover C. Dickey.  After writing this book he journeyed to Ireland to continue the Dickey story and I will excerpt his notes here (I can send you the entire notes if your interested:   (From page 8 of his research), "Living in Cullybacky at the same time as John Dickey and James Hood, was the Robert Wiseman family.  We found in the early baptismal records of Cunningham Memorial Presbyterian Curch of Cullybacky, the record of the baptism of Hugh Wiseman, shown as the son of Robert Wiseman.  Hugh Wiseman was baptized on October 24, 1746.  In the same records was the family of James Wiseman, with children: John William, Elizabeth and Robert. This is the same church in which Alexander Dickey, son of John Dickey Sr., was baptized in 1758.  Robert Wiseman and his wife Margaret (Jefford), and their children Hugh, Mary, Jannet, and Ann, journeyed to thirty miles from Cullybacky to Belfast in 1767 and embarked on the ship "NANCY" for Charleston, South Carolina.  According the "The Robert and Margaret Wiseman Family and Some of Their Descendants", by Edgar J. Stephens Jr., New Albany, Miss. - 1977-, Ann Wiseman was ten years old when she arrived in Charleston with her family in 1767.  Her birthdate, then, was 1757 or 1758 which would make her and Alexander Dickey, who she later married in South Carolina, about the same age.  Ann Wiseman, Jane Hood, and Alexander Dickey probably played, and attended school and church, together.

Robert Wiseman and his family received land grants totaling 450 acres on Second Creek in Newberry County, South Carolina.  When John Dickey and his family followed five years later on the "James and Mary", they received land

grants in Newberry County very close to that of the Wisemans.  The Dickeys could have even been encouraged to ask for land near the Wisemans, since it was all unclaimed land in that area except for the Wisemans.  At any rate, the Dickeys and the Wisemans, who had been friends, neighbors, and members of the same church in Cullybacky, were close neighbors in Newberry County, S.C., after 1772. Alexander Dickey and Ann Wiseman were married shortly after the close of the American Revolution, about 1782 or 1783.  They both would have been about 23 or 24 years old.  Their first child, Wiseman Dickey, was born in 1784." Thanks again, Jeannine Dickey.

q/KAYNLINN@aol.com   Kay Nance Linn.    Bob, Thank you so very much for the information on the Wiseman family.  I have created a "Register Report" with the descendants of Charles Henderson Elliott and Elizabeth Wiseman which is all the information I have gathered to date.  The report contains 9 generations and is 84 pages long.  It is in .rtf (rich text format) and any word processor should be able to open it.  I have left in the dates of the living people, but please do not publish these dates to a webpage or on the internet for everyone's privacy.  Much of the information is not documented but what I have learned from other researchers.  Hope this helps.  I would appreciate any additional information you may have on the Wiseman family.  I was at a dead end with both the Elliott and Wiseman families. Thanks, Kay Nance Linn * * * * * * * * * * q/kaynlinn@aol.com   Kay Nance Linn. Bob, I found all of these Wiseman's on the Ebenezer Cemetery page of Tippah Co., MS.  Are any of these Elizabeth Wiseman's siblings or other relatives, since her mother, Jane Hunter Wiseman was buried there?

REPLY:  They are all Wiseman relatives of Elizabeth (Wiseman) Elliott, as far as I can tell. - - - R.D.W.
