[S503] Obituary of Stratton B. Souder, newspaper unknown, photocopy supplied by Irma Baker, Feb 1999. "Died at his home in Marion, Iowa, January 4, 1896, Stratton B. Souder. He was born September 7, 1828, in Bridgeton, Cumberland Co, New Jersey, and was married December 6th, 1854, to Miss Elizabeth S. Riley. In August 1865, they moved to Marion, Iowa, and in 1886 to St. Paul, Minnesota, and in 1892, they moved back to Marion. They had five children, Charles, who resides in Kansas; Ella, who died in New Jersey; George, who died in Marion; Harry, who resides in St. Paul, and Eugene, of Albany, New York. All the children who are living are married. A week ago, Mr. Souder was apparently in his usual health, and went out a mile from home to cut some wood, but not returning in the evening, his wife became alarmed and the neighbors went to hunt for him and found him paralyzed and unable to speak. He was brought home and the physicians called, and everything was done that could be done to restore his health, but he never regained the power of speech. He was of a quiet and retiring disposition and had no enemies. He was the youngest of a family of twelve children, only one of whom survives him, a sister who resides in New Jersey".

"Aunt Jane has the family bible and from that and facts which I can obtain of Aunt Jane and Father, I may be able to help unravel this affair. I have heard something about my Grandfather, Reuben Souder, once starting an investigation of this matter, I should say about twenty years ago, but the lawyers for some reason did not go into it fully-- my have been bought off by other claimants. I suppose you are the son of Stratton Souder, the younger brother of Reuben Souder. Of course you know that Reuben is dead, and that Charles Souder, the second son of Reuben is also dead. My father, Jeremiah B. Souder, and Jane White are the only living children of Reuben Souder".

[S1589] Obituary of Ada Palmer, from an unknown newspaper (n.d.) pencil date of 5 Apr 1927, photocopy of article supplied by E. Willard Dell, May 1994. "...wife of Maurice W. Palmer, Mechanicsville, MD, died Saturday evening from erysipelas. She was aged 48 years nine months and four days [copy corrected to 46 years nine months and nine days]. She was a daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Parrish. ..two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Andrew Swenson, Baltimore; Mrs. Ella Jones, Missouri; Walter Parrish, Kansas; and Joseph Parrish, Mechanicsville. The funeral was held this afternoon ... Interment was made in Mt. Pleasant cemetery..." Dates on file for her of 5 Jul 1880 to 9 Apr 1927 (from an undocumented Parrish Family History) work out to 46 years 9 months and 4 days (not 9 days). 9 Apr is a Saturday. This would make the pencil date on the obit incorrect.

[S2003] "Baptist Cemetery, Bridgeton, NJ," Vineland Historical Magazine Vol. 3-4 (July-Oct 1949, XXXIV): p 27 & 28, "Second East and West Walk, 13th Sec. Stratton Souder, bought Feb 23, 1864. Long sunken in grave. Ella M., dau. of S.B. & E.S. Souder, aged 6 m. No date. ("This marble stone had fallen down, and no indication where it belonged. Sept. 27, 1927. I set it up in place, here." signed, C.E.S.)." Photocopy supplied by June Boyer. Ella was on the 1860 census with her parents and was 3/12ths in June of 1860 so I think it likely that the 1864 purchase date of this cemetery lot by Stratton Souder was probably in error or he purchased it in 1864 and then moved Ella to this site.
