"Saturday, May 20th marked the 70th Wedding Anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Alex Meeker, aged and respected citizens of Alexis." A message from Henry Horner, Gov. of the State of Illinois is dated 20 May 1939. "Mr. and Mrs. Meeker were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Washington Brown, five miles from North Henderson, by Squire John Longley. Mrs. Meeker is in her 85th year and Mr. Meeker is 91..." Original article in possession of Win Wood.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Christy made the journey to Pawnee City, and spent her last years with her youngest daughter, passing away in 1885."

Mr. Meeker, the last of a family of 13 children born to Timothy and Hester Brown Meeker, was born in North Henderson township, Mercer county, Sept. 7, 1847. He passed away at his home in Alexis, April 5, 1940, at the age of 92... On May 20, 1869, he married Frances Elvera Brown... On May 20, 1939, Mr. and Mrs. Meeker had the rare pleasure of celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary..."
