My FINE line is descended from Thomas Fine, 1735, and Agnes Merchant of New Jersey, through their son David and Ann Corder, then to John Clinton Fine and Mary Warner of St. Louis, Missouri, and finally through James Wilson Fine's daughter, Fannie Fine Bursey Abbott, and my mother, Minnie Valeta Abbott Tienken. |
| Thomas' father or grandfather probably
was the first of the family to emigrate--- and he probably was a "gentleman farmer" from Holland. Possibly he left to seek greater opportunity in the new land. He probably settled in Monmouth County, New Jersey in a Dutch settlement. That is where we find Thomas. |

At least four of their sons fought in the War for Independence:
Capt. Vinet Fine, Philip Fine, Maj. Peter Fine, and Capt. John Fine.
We have service documented for Philip Fine, but no rank is noted.
None of them was killed.
Around 1780, the family all moved to Newport, Cocke County,
Tennessee. There are interesting stories about their
adventures there.
From Tennessee, the family spread out northwest and
west as new territory opened for settlement. David, my
ancestor, was the ninth child and he moved on to St. Louis to
raise his family.
