A collection of information regarding Wingroves involved with various conflicts during the history of the United States of America.
Any assistance in placing individuals into a family grouping or the correct time period is appreciated.

Revolutionary War
       - The Colonial Struggle England and the Colonies of USA
Civil War
       - The North and the South
World War I
World War II
Korean Conflict
Viet Nam

As I set about to collect the information and sort it out into various categories, I know that my knowledge of the USA history is quite limited. What follows is a Canadian's attempt to sort various Wingrove entries into one of the armed conflicts. The intent is to gather the WINGROVE information into a single page, not a definitive study of USA conflicts.

The Revolutionary War occurred as England and the United States colonies tried to settle their differences. This war saw a struggle for independence and the final emergence of the United States of America.

Many of the Wingroves were once part of the United Kingdom, England and Ireland. They ended up fighting against their former countrymen during this conflict.

JOHN WINGROVE was a teenager or young man when he came to the United States in 1775, at the age of twenty, [he would be born in the 1750's in England]. He did not marry until about 1792 or thereabouts. Mariah Blue and John were probably married in Lewis County, VA now WVA. There is a marriage record for him and Elizabeth Lunn or Lum. Later he married a Maria Huldfish .There was a Hulfish family in the same area. About 1814 he moved to Harrison Co VA now Lewis County WV to follow his oldest son William Wingrove. John Wingrove fought in the American Revolution.
Anthony Keefer - from Thoughts on John Wingrove WV

A John Wingrove is mentioned in the Journals of Continental Congress as requesting a posting
to India for a Commercial endeavor. Request denied since John was not a Citizen of the USA

Any help in identifying these individuals is appreciated

A costly series of engagements that split the tiny nation. Brother against brother in both figurative and literal terms. This war shaped the future of the United States. Several states were formed during this time period including West Virginia, home of many Wingrove lines.

This database is an index to nearly 2.5 million of these application
cards. Each record includes the veteran's name and state in which he, or his dependents, filed the application. If a widow or a child filed the application, their name is provided. Because these pension files were for federal benefits, this collection only contains the names of Union veterans.
The Family History Library in Salt Lake City or The National Archives and Records Administration (microfilm #T288) are excellent sources for the complete collection on microfilm.
