AKA: Meredith Wingrove
Occupation: Superior Court Judge
in Hanford, Kings County, CA3
He earned his bachelor of laws degree at San Francisco Law School . He was admitted to the bar in 1926 . He began practice in
Hanford (Kings Co. Calif.) in 1928 in association with Sidney J. Sharp, with whom he worked for 17 years.
In 1944 he took over the practice of the deceased attorney Scott Jacobs and in 1945 , took
Lee B. Brown , former district attorney,
as his associate.
In January of 1956 Wingrove was appointed Kings Co. Superior Court Judge by Governor
Goodwin J. Knight, to serve out
the remainder of the 6 year term after the death of his predecessor, who died. (then he was elected to a second term and served until
his retirement on April 13, 1965 due to failing health.)
He was active in clubs and organizations and led charity drives. He was a past president of Rotary and Exchange clubs, had been
financial secretary of Native Sons of the Golden West, and was a member of the Elks and the Eagles Lodge. He was also a past
president of the Kings County Bar Association.
He also served as judge of the juvenile court, and in many ways, he had indicated the decisions he made here to be among the most
important. He was particularly concerned with ways society might help juveniles in trouble, or, more important, stave off the
problems.
So convinced was he of the values of such organizations as Boy Scouts that he personally took an active role for many years in this
phase of youth work.

Hemet News :
Dec 13 1907
DEATH OF O. P. WINGROVE
O.
P. (Otis Patrick) Wingrove died at his home at
Hemet Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after an illness of several
months. Mr. and Mrs. Wingrove came to Hemet from Kansas less
than a year ago. Mr. Wingrove had been in poor health for
some time, and early in the summer he suffered from an attack of
stomach trouble from which he never fully recovered.
Everything was done to make him comfortable, but he gradually sank
till death came to his release. The funeral was held at the
Methodist church at Hemet Tuesday afternoon.
O.
P. Wingrove was born in Braxton Co., West Virginia,
September 28, 1841. In 1865, he was married to Margaret See
Scott, to whom two children were born, L.
S. Wingrove of Hot Springs, California, and Mrs. W.
H. Welsh of Diamond Valley. In 1876, Mr. Wingrove moved
to Kansas, where he lived until he came to California. Mr.
Wingrove was married to his second wife, Mary Ryan, Nov. 8,
1888. He was a member of the Methodist Church, having joined
it in the early 70's. He was an earnest Christian, a loving father
and a kind and thoughtful husband. He is survived by his
wife and his children, L. S. Wingrove,
Mrs. W. H. Welsh and Eddie
Wingrove, an adopted son.

Wingrove: - Mary
Fletcher Ryan was born June 14, 1848, in Vienna, Scott county,
Ind., and died in Keats, KA, 18 May 1917, aged 68 years, 11 months
and 2 days. She came with her
father's family to Kansas in May 1859. In 1865 they moved
to Clay county, where she lived till the spring of 1907, where she
has made her home till the time of her death.
She was married to O. P. Wingrove
in November 1888, and lived on the farm near Clay Center until
1905, when they moved into town, living there till 1907, when she,
with her husband, moved to Hemet, CA, where she lived till his
death, returning to Keats, Kan., in the spring of 1909, where she
has made her home till the time of her death.
She became a Christian in early childhood and united with the
Methodist Church at the age of eight years. She has lived a
consistent Christian life ever since. She was a great reader
of good literature, having read the Bible through forty-five
times, besides various books on theology and history. As to
her education it ought to be said she was a self educated woman,
having acquired a better education than most people who have had
better advantages along that line. She taught school for
eighteen years in Clay and Riley counties.
She leaves one sister and four brothers, Mrs. A. V. Edelblute of
Keats, Judge T. G. Ryan of Clay Center, Rev. J. M. Tyan of Salina,
Rev. A. E. Ryan of Alma, KA., and A. W. Ryan of Humeston IA.; one
adopted son, E. L. Wingrove, of Hemet, Cal., and two
step-children, Kilburn (Lilburn S) Wingrove and Mrs. May French
(Welsh), both of California, to mourn her loss. She leaves a wide
circle of friends, both in Clay and Ridley counties where she has
made her home, and will be greatly missed, both in church and
social gatherings.
The funeral was from the home of Mrs. A. V. Edelblute in Keats. The
remains were laid to rest Monday in the Clay Center cemetery,
beside her father and mother. The service were conducted by Rev.
John. R. Hoch, Pastor of the M. E. church in Keats. |
