John George Spikin-mar- Ellen Harris daughter of Joseph Harris and Elizabeth Buckman born in Cape of Good Hope SA. Their child Leonard William Spiking -m- Emily Gepheart had my mother Doris Spiking (living). It is interesting to note that in the 1881 census Charles and his son John Jabz added the letter "g" and it was kept although they were registered as Spikin.
My gt grandfather John George born abt 1879/80. had a brother Philip who died aged 4 years old. Possibly named after his maternal grandfather Philip Geary.

There are a Richard and Penelope Spikin who had sons Joseph and William Spikin christened at St Margaret's Church Westminster in 1687 together with various Spikins christened at the same church. I wonder whether they could be ancestors? It seems likely as the Spikins all started out at Westminster, and the name William seems to be a name handed down.
