What I know:
Grandma, Florence Ella Wingrove, was born in Glory, Lamar Co. Texas in 1877.
She had a twin brother, E. Clarence, and sisters Lucy and
Bessie
She and her twin, both married Wood siblings in Scipio, OK. Choctaw Nation
John Wingrove
also married in Scipio in 1901, age 29.
Lamar Co. census
1880
lists only 1 Wingrove family,
E. R. Wingrove, wife
Nancy, and children
including "Ellen" and "Claraise", age 3 and John, age 8,
"Lusie" and Elizabeth.
Precinct 3, Lamar, Texas
E. R. and Nancy were married in 1865 in Fannin Co.,
next county over from Lamar.

E. R. Wingrove IS NOT LISTED in the eligibility census for the Confederate States Army
for Lamar or surrounding counties in 1860, indicating he wasn't there in
Texas, as he would have been 20, and plenty "eligible".
E.R. and Nancy were both from Union States.
Family oral history says that Ella's parents were killed by Indians as they
were coming back to their farm -- witnessed by son Clarence.
NEW 30
June 2002
Edward R. and Nancy (Tucker) Wingrove
are indeed my ggrandparents. They were ambushed while crossing a river (possibly the Red River bordering
Oklahoma and Texas) after visiting their daughter
Mattie
in Oklahoma (Choctaw Nation), who had just had a baby. (hopefully I can narrow down the
date ).
They had a son (who isn't on the 1890 Texas census) named Tom who was deaf
and mute. He was raised by Mattie after they were killed. Mattie's husband
was named Zach (surname unknown)
I'm looking up information on the Oklahoma School for the Deaf which is in
Sulfur (close to the border between Texas and Oklahoma).
Who knows?
All of this is from my aunt -- the oldest member of the family,
Ella Wingrove Wood's daughter.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
(Franklin) Daddy Burr Wood and
Ella Wingrove had 10 children
1. Oma (m. a
Hildebrand),
2. Audrey (m.
Dewey Treece)
(I don't think she married anyone else, but I think he did after she died).
3. Ruby (m. --
Barton)
4. Elois (my mother) (m
Kunke)
5. Sybil (m.
Chesney)
6. Thad (m. Pearl don't know maiden name)
7. Ray (not sure of wife)
8. Florence (m. -- Gee)
9. Casey (not sure of wife)
10. Jerry (m. Noble).
Elois, Sybil and Jerry Wood formed a singing trio (the Wood Sisters) who sang on
KVOO in Tulsa from 1937 to 1941.
The tree really spreads from there.
My grandmother, (Florence) Ella Wingrove was apparently 1/4 Choctaw and her mother should be in the tribal
rolls. A problem though --I went to Oklahoma, Choctaw Nation area, and found out that it is
taboo to name a dead person-- so some people did not make it on to the
rolls because their relatives would not say their names.

Likely 50th Wedding Anniversary
Also found out that besides 2 Wingroves marrying 2 Woods, in the previous
generation 3 Dobbs sisters married 3 Wood brothers. I remember my mother
saying that her mother (Ella) was a twin, but who the other twin was, I don't know, and Mom referred to the Wingrove branch as "double cousins".
Scipio OK is a very tiny place -- no longer on the state maps, although
"Mapquest.com" shows it.

from Gwen (Randolph nee Wood)
Franklin Burr Wood
(our grand-father) was born in DeLeon, Texas, Dec. 29, 1879., and Ella (our grand-mother)
was born in 1877. Ray Wood (my father)
was married to Sybil
George. Uncle Thad's
wife is Pearl Turney Wood. Uncle Casey's
wife was Myrtle Martin.
Yes, grandmother did have a twin brother, E. C. (Uncle
Shorty,
we called him because he was so tall) Wingrove
who married Daddy Burr's
sister Leota.
They always have lived in Texas, somewhere near Houston I think. Also Daddy Burr's
youngest sister was named Mamie,
or at least we
all called her that, not Minnie.
She lived with Uncle Lafe
and his family
all her grown up life.
My dad always said his grand-father Wingrove came from Ireland.

I found my grandmother's
(Florence Ella
Wingrove) place of birth, Glory,
Lamar County Texas.
In the 1880 Lamar Co. census, there is one family of Wingroves:
- E. R. Wingrove, age 40, born in New York,
Father born in Ireland, Mother in Scotland
- wife Nancy, age 36, born in Missouri,
both parents born in North Carolina
Children
Mattie, Lorinia, John B., *Lusie, Elizabeth, (Bessie?), and twins
Ellen
(Ella?) and
Claraice
(Clarence?), born the same year as my grandmother
and her twin brother,
E. Clarence
(1877). And in the 50th anniversary
tape, she mentions "Lucy and Bessie" being there.
The census has Claraice as female -- but perhaps a mistake? I can't get the county birth records. They are sealed to all but
immediate family, and grandchildren don't count.

Lamar County is just south of Choctaw Nation, OK, and being in Texas would
also account for an attack by Comanche.
