He married SARAH JANE ANDERSON 1849, daughter of JOSEPH ANDERSON and MARTHA ROSS.  She was born 09 Jul 1830, and died 10 Apr 1919 in East Flamborough, Ont.
In order to obtain legal title to land, settlers were required to build a home within the first year. Many settlers built rough shacks which were later replaced by more permanent stone homes.
Both Joseph and his wife Sara Jane (Anderson) Gunstone were "Bethany Methodist Episcopal". Joseph sailed from Bristol, England to Canada sometime in the 1840's, settled in Nassagaweya Twp., near Moffat, Ontario. Joseph's occupation was a Stone Mason/Plasterer.

            1861 Census

FHL#6093957 Last Will and Testament: Application for Probate Will #1875 June 7, 1898, Sole Executrix Sarah Jane, Widow. Total value of Estate: $957.00

In the Estate of Joseph Gunstone the General Description of the Property states: The West Half of the West Half of Lot number 11, on the Second Concession of the Twp. of Nassagaweya in the County of Halton, containing 50 acres more or less valued at $800.00.
From an excerpt, Book Titled:
1982 By Nassagaweya (A History of Campbellville and Surrounding Area Its Land and People) Joseph Gunston (Gunstone) bought 50 acres in the south-westerly half from James Crombie. Crombie sold the north-easterly half to William Anderson, Sarah Jane's father.

WEST 50- Joseph Gunston and his wife, Sara Jane Anderson, William Anderson's sister, bought the west part of the lot.  They had lived on Lot 13 Conc 2 until 1866.  Joseph was a well-known mason and plasterer in the area.  He and Sarah had 9 children, Elizabeth; William John; Mary Ann; Margaret J; Henry Rhodes; Joseph, twins Thomas and Robert; Frederick Wesley.

Robert died when was 4.  Fred is the only one who might have been born on this farm.  The corner where they lived is still referred to, by native Nassagaweyans, as "Gunstons Corners". Mr. Tom Rimmer, and Englishman, who was a cook on the railway, rented the house from  Fred Gunston (Joseph Gunstone's son) and lived there with his wife and their daughter, Ada. In 1908, the Gunstons sold the property to James Burns.  His son, Gerald, sold 35 acres to H. R. C. A. in 1963.

The Authority dammed the creek to form a picturesque pond which is used for swimming, fishing and skating.  They also maintain a recreation park with picnic benches, nature walks, bird-feeding stations and ski trails.  It has been named "The Burns Conservation Tract".

EAST 50- William Anderson and his wife Jane Ross and their 6 children moved from the farm on Lot 12 Con 3 in 1869.  William and Jane were on this farm the rest of their lives.  Jane died in 1890 and William in 1906.  In 1907, his sons, William and Robert James sold the farm to John Reed Watson.  William had built on his farm a lovely stone house in 1908.

Gunstone, Joseph, Birth announcement (Twin Sons) appeared in the Canadian Champion (Milton), 12, Oct. 1865, page 2, column 8 It reads: In Nassagaweya, on the 26th inst., the wife, of Mr. Joseph Gunston, of twin sons. (Here again is a discrepancy in dates.  Is it 26th or 28th of September 1865?) Most likely born on the 26 and reported in newspaper day of 28th of September.

(Latter Day Saints Film #1846446.).

Occupation: Quarry Owner

Farmed and then resided in Carlisle, ON.

Jim was quite an entrepreneur farming just outside of Carlisle and running his own Quarry business.

Jim and Flossie lived in a stone two storey farm home on top of the hill overlooking the barn and fields.

Many many fond memories of time spent on the farm every summer while growing up.  In later years they turned over the farm to their son, my cousin, Russel and moved into town (Carlisle) to a Ranch Bungalo.
