Condition Considered Critical At Marietta Hospital Today
As a result of burn when her clothing became ignited from an open gas stove, Mrs. Walter Wingrove, 36 of Waverly, is in serious condition at a Marietta Hospital. The woman suffered terrible burns about the body and physicians have been unable to determine the probable outcome of her injuries. The accident occurred when Mrs. Wingrove who had her infant in her arms, stooped over to place the child in a crib. The back of her dress came in contact with the flame shooting from the open stove and almost instantly her clothing was a mass of flame. She rushed from the house screaming. Howard Meeks, first to reach the woman when she rushed into the yard, grabbed a small rug from a porch and attempted to extinguish the flames. R L Howard, also attracted by the screams of the woman, rushed to the scene and assisted Mr. Meeks in attempting to quench the blaze. They succeeded, but not until nearly all the clothing had been burned from Mrs. Wingrove's body.
The injured woman was placed aboard the caboose of the freight train that was just leaving Waverly and was taken to Williamstown where she was transferred to the Marietta hospital. Examination revealed that here entire body below the neck has been terribly burned. In addition the woman is suffering considerably from shock an physicians will make no comment as to probable outcome f the injuries.
