State police identify victim in fatal fire
By Josh Krysak, Herald-Standard
04/18/2006
PERRY TWP. - State police have identified the man who was killed Sunday night when fire swept through a home
in Whitsett.
State police said Thomas Wingrove, 47, of Star Junction died when a residence on Pilgrim Street
caught fire around 8:45 p.m. Police said Monday that an investigation into the fire
is continuing and the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
Fayette County Deputy Coroner Marisa Springer pronounced Wingrove dead at the scene at 10:42 p.m.
Springer said Monday that the cause of death is pending autopsy results.
An autopsy as well as a toxicology test conducted late Monday were not available as of press time.
Springer said firefighters recovered Wingrove's body from the home after finding him near a doorway.
According to A.J. Boni, Perry Township assistant fire chief, crews knocked down the fire quickly and damage
was contained to the living room area. Boni said firefighters found Wingrove's body near the couch.
He said the Pilgrim Street home is owned by Len Little. A phone call made to the Little residence was not
immediately returned.
In addition to state police, volunteer firefighters from Perry Township, DL&V, Dawson, Fayette City and
Belle Vernon fire departments and emergency personnel from Perry Ambulance and the coroner's office
responded to the scene. The state police fire marshal could not be reached for
comment Monday.

Man dies in blaze at Whitsett home
By Tom Yerace TRIBUNE-REVIEW Tuesday, April 18, 2006
A man died in a fire Sunday night at his residence in the village of Whitsett, Perry Township.
The victim was identified by the Fayette County Coroner's Office as
Thomas Wingrove, 47.
Ralph Wingrove, of Perryopolis, the father of the victim, said his son once was a steelworker at the
U.S. Steel Clairton works but was living on disability benefits. He said his son was in a vehicle accident
during which a car caught fire, sending off fumes that damaged his lungs.
"He was a decent man," Wingrove said. "He tried to help people whenever he could."
Thomas Wingrove was the fifth of 11 children born to Ralph and
Genevieve Wingrove.
Marisa Springer, deputy Fayette County coroner, said Wingrove was found in what appeared to be a living
room of the Pilgrim Street home. The cause of the fire, which broke out around 9 p.m.,
is still undetermined.
The property is owned by Lanny Little, of Washington County, Springer said.
The cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy and toxicology test, which were to be
conducted by Cyril Wecht and Associates in Pittsburgh, Springer said.
"We are believing it is an accidental death," she said. "There didn't seem to be any foul play."
A state police fire marshal is investigating the fire. Ralph Wingrove said his son was divorced and the
father of three children, ages 13, 18 and 22. He said he last saw his son about a month ago.
"He would come around and help me once in a while if I had something to do," he said. "Anything you needed
done, he would help you do."
Wingrove said his son liked to get friends together for a party and tended to move from place to place
around the area.
"He would stay here and there," Wingrove said, adding that his son had not been living very long in the
house where he died.
Barry Lynch, chief of Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department, could not be reached for comment.

Councilor dies outside civic centre
The death of councillor Oliver Wingrove on the steps of Arun Civic Centre in Littlehampton on Monday has
shocked all who knew him.
Mr Wingrove, 67, was Arun district councilor for Angmering and West Sussex County Council member for
Angmering and Findon.
He died suddenly of a suspected heart attack after collapsing on the steps of the civic centre at just
before 6pm.
While onlookers tried to help, an ambulance was called and a member of council staff ran to Littlehampton
fire station to seek help. Firefighters attempted to give first aid to Mr Wingrove, who was then taken by ambulance to Worthing
Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Arun Council chairman Tony Squires said he was shocked by the news of Mr Wingrove's death. He had been with
him and fellow Arun councillor Ricky Bower during the day on Monday.
The three men had been aboard a boat on the sea off Rustington to scatter the ashes of
former Arun
chairman Harold Parris, who died on February 28.
"Oliver seemed fine then, he was in good spirits," said Mr Squires. "I've known him ever since I joined
the council 12 years ago. He was a great man, who was good fun and will be sadly missed."
One of Mr Wingrove's fellow Angmering councillors, Paul Bicknell, said: "It's a great shock to all who
knew him. Oliver was a good man and he will be greatly missed.
"He inspired me to become a district councillor in the first place and I will miss his long-standing
expertise that he had with both Arun council and the
county council." Mr Wingrove, who lived in Findon, had been a member of
Arun Council since 1991 and was its deputy leader between 1995 and 1997.
He had served on the county council since 2001 and was deputy cabinet member for strategic planning, as well
as serving on the health scrutiny select committee and the joint downland and joint eastern Arun local
committees. He was also a member of Littlehampton Harbour Board.
A qualified cricket umpire, Mr Wingrove was a keen member of Findon Cricket Club and enjoyed horse racing
at Goodwood and Fontwell Park racecourses. County council leader Henry Smith said: "I would like
to express my sympathy to Oliver's family. Everyone at County Hall was shocked and saddened to hear about his
sudden death.
"He had a friendly and relaxed manner but was a determined man who served his local residents, and the
wider West Sussex community, extremely well." Mr Norman Dingemans, leader of Arun Council, said: "Oliver has played an active role in the council and
has been a cabinet member since the cabinet system was set up six years ago. He has gained many friends
within Arun District Council and will be sorely missed." 06 April 2006

John Isaac Price, son of John and Ann Cook
Price, was born May 10, 1830, in Wales. An older brother was also named John, so John Isaac was called Jackie. He
attended the part-time school which was compulsory by law and became an excellent reader. His father
was a miner and worked in adjacent coal mines. After the parents' death, several of the brothers
decided to emigrate to America, and John, now about sixteen, accompanied them. John and his brother,
Isaac, settled in New York City where Isaac died soon after their arrival. John then assumed Isaac as his
second name, and thereafter signed his name, John Isaac Price. There had been a close bond of love
between the two brothers and the young boy felt homeless and alone. For a time he drifted and traveled
about in search of adventure, finally finding employment in the great logging camps on the St.
Lawrence River. While in New York, John met beautiful Mary Ann Wingrove, daughter of Richard and
Margaret Parker Wingrove, a young lady recently from New Castle upon True, England. She kept house for her bachelor
brother, Jacob Wingrove, owner of a jewelry shop. The two young people were married about 1852. This was,
indeed, a true romance. Mary Ann was twenty, of medium height, slender, with a rose-petal complexion, dark
blue eyes and a profusion of long black hair which she wore parted in the middle and coiled loosely in an
ample knot at the back of her head. John and Mary Ann moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where
John planned to obtain work in one of the large mills on the big rivers. Here their oldest son, Isaac, was
