Two Different Surnames
or Variations
?
& the use of these surnames as Christian name and middle nameThomas B Wingrove
It all depends on what part of England you come from as to the broadness of
dialect. A large part of southern/south east England speak with a London accent that is
fairly easy to follow but also have local country burr dialects in local areas. The west
country can be quite a broad country type accent, which can be hard to follow. The
midlands accent is very deep and pronounced, with broad variations within the local areas.
As for the north east/west very broad and deep accents area to area which can be very hard
to follow to say the least. I believe that dialect has a strong part to play in name
changes of all descriptions over the centuries within Britain as a whole. So it is no
surprise that there could be or is, a strong link between
Wingrove
& Wingrave. Another aspect to remember is before
travel became the norm, people tended to stay within their localities all their lives, so
accents would have been more pronounced, with name corruption prevalent.
