DOROTHY JANE WINGROVE PIZZI

Mrs. Dorothy Jane Pizzi, of Salisbury, MD, formerly of College Park, MD died on Thursday, April 13, 2000 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Calvert, Jr. of Oxford, MD. She was 81.

Born in Scottsdale, PA, September 19, 1918, she was the daughter of the late David Hayes and Nellie Stuart Baker Wingrove. After graduating from Brownsville High School in 1937, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked as a secretary for the Dept. of Transportation at the Pentagon. In November of 1946, she married Vincent Pizzi and they made their home in Lewisdale, Md. before moving to College Park. In 1967, she was employed as a secretary for Catholic University, a position she held until retiring in the mid-1980's.

A member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Salisbury and a former member of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in Hyattsville, she was a member and past President of the D.C. Auxiliary Chapter of the 42nd Infantry (Rainbow) Division Assoc. and a past Chairman of the National Reunion of the 42nd Infantry Division Association Auxiliary.

Her greatest joys in life were her husband, children and grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Vernon David Pizzi and his wife, Susan of Davidsonville, MD; two daughters, Patricia Jane Green and her husband, John, of Issue, Md. and Barbara Anne Calvert and her husband, Dr. Gordon Calvert, Jr. of Oxford, Md.; a sister, Ruth Wingrove Gordon of Warwick, R. I. and nine grandchildren, Julie M. Pizzi, David V. Pizzi, Joseph F. Pizzi, Alyson M. Green, John V. Green, Brittany J. Green, Cristina M. Calvert, Jessica A. Calvert and Andrew G. Calvert.
