Alice Irene Wingrove

VIENNA, W.Va. - Alice Irene Wingrove, 88, of Vienna, died Friday (June 25, 2004) at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

She was born Oct. 5, 1915, in St. Marys, W.Va., to Port and Lena Samberson Shingleton. In November 1934, she married Virgil Wingrove and lived in the community of Herndon until his death in 1983. She was active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church there and taught Sunday school for many years. She later moved to Vienna and became a member of the 36th Street Church of Christ. Her entire life was devoted to her family and helping others.

Surviving is a daughter, Betty McKenzie and her husband, Thomas, of Williamstown; one grandson, Kelly McKenzie and his wife, Lisa, of Gibsonia, Pa.; three great-grandsons, Brandon, Tyler and Dylan; a foster daughter, Linda Detamore and her husband, Charles, of Elizabeth, W.Va.; and special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kyle McKenzie; two sisters; one brother; and three nephews.

It was her wish that there be no service and that her body be cremated. Visiting hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Vienna.
