Betty Ruth Painter Payne, 
1923-1999

SCARBRO -- Betty Ruth Painter Payne, 75, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born July 12, 1923, at Dothan, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Stella Star Webb Painter. Mrs. Payne was founding member of the Dothan Missionary Baptist Church, and she enjoyed her family.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Jennings, Fred, Cecil, Emmitt, Harry and Thomas Painter; and three sisters, Mary Miller, Esther Webb, and Sadie Painter.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Charles R. "Jake" Payne; a daughter, Joan Coleman of Dothan; a granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Adkins and her husband, Kenneth E. of Wingrove; a great-grandson, Wyatt Heath Adkins of Wingrove; a sister, Margie Smith of Powhatan, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Gene England officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements by Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.
