Mary Wingrove Hoopes

 

Mary F. Hoopes, 97, formerly of Ligonier, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born March 5, 1900, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late John B. and Anna Belle Wilson Wingrove. Mary was the oldest member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Ligonier. She had taught school for several years in a one-room school in Breakneck, Bullskin Township and prior to retirement she was a cook for 25 years at the former McGinnis Hospital, Ligonier. She is survived by seven children: Irma Paplazorous of Export, Marie Joe, Eva Lawson and her husband, Clarence, and Bernard Hoopes, all of Latrobe, Martha Caprino of White Valley, William of Denton, Texas, and Nancy Weimer and her husband, Harry 'Pete' of Laughlintown; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Z. Hoopes (1957); two sons, Leo E. and Arthur Hoopes; four brothers, Jim, Harry, Ira and Reed Wingrove; three sisters, Maude, Kate and Irene; and a grandson, Gregory Joe. Friends will be received at the SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC., Bell and East Church streets, Ligonier, from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Herbert G. Gates III officiating. Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley Cemetery. Helen H.
