Memory of
James S. Davis
James S Davis, well known Willis Branch resident, died at his home Friday, January
8 1926. Death was due to heart trouble from which he had been a sufferer for several years. He was 78 years old and was born and spent his life on Willis Branch of Paint Creek.
He is survived by his wife, who was Rebecca O'Neal, and the following daughters:
Mrs. E. T. Wingrove, Long Branch; Mrs.
Charles Tyree, Pax; Mrs. John Evans of Charleston, Mrs. Lewis Neiman and Mrs.
John Sweeney, of Willis Branch.
Half a dozen years ago when the Willis Branch mine labor war was in progress, Uncle Jim was the target of much annoyance
from the law breakers. He stood bravely for order and refused to be driven away by repeated threats and attempts on his life,
made by the strikers.
He was a member of the Christian Church. Burial was on the home place Sunday.
