Our Pioneer Heritage    Volume 16
Graves Along the Trail    Buried at the Foot of the Hills     Weber County

Mary Ann Wingrove Price was born at New Castle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, in the year 1882, a daughter of Richard Wingrove and Margaret Parker Wingrove. It is not known when Mary Ann came to America, or if her family emigrated as a unit. [NEW INFORMATION] Family tradition tells us that she and her brother Jacob [Wingrove] lived in New York City where he owned a jewelry shop and she kept house for him. Mary Ann married John Isaac Price about 1852 in New York City. John was born May 10, 1830, at Gladestry, Radnor, Wales, the son of John Price and Ann Cook Price, and the youngest in a family of sixteen children. This marriage was a real romance, both being very much in love. They evidently emigrated westward to Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, where their first son, Isaac Thomas Price, was born 26 October, 1855

Our Pioneer Heritage Volume 8 The Year of 1864 From Wales Emigrant's Guide

After the parents' death, several of the brothers decided to emigrate to America, and John [Price], now about sixteen, accompanied them. John and his brother, Isaac, settled in New York City where Isaac died soon after their arrival. John then assumed Isaac as his second name, and thereafter signed his name, John Isaac Price. There had been a close bond of love between the two brothers and the young boy felt homeless and alone. For a time he drifted and traveled about in search of adventure, finally finding employment in the great logging camps on the St. Lawrence River. While in New York, John met beautiful Mary Ann Wingrove, daughter of Richard and Margaret Parker Wingrove, a young lady recently from New Castle upon True, England. She kept house for her bachelor brother, Jacob Wingrove, owner of a jewelry shop. The two young people were married about 1852. This was, indeed, a true romance. Mary Ann was twenty, of medium height, slender, with a rose-petal complexion, dark blue eyes and a profusion of long black hair which she wore parted in the middle and coiled loosely in an ample knot at the back of her head.
