Jeremiah Hirst was a past member of the 4th Battalion of the Royal Artillery of England leaving with a rank of Sergeant . His arrival to Canada resulted in a Military Free Grant from the Crown of 100 acres in the west half  of Lot 8 Concession 2  Nasseywega Township, Halton County, Ontario. This was registered by Jeremiah in 1835.

   Jeremiah was from Yorkshire England born there about 1797. He died 29 AUG 1879 with burial at  St John's Anglican Church Cemetery Nassagaweya Twp ON CAN 
 He was married to  Mary Hudson who was born about 1794 and died 10 FEB 1882 burial also at  St John's Anglican Church Cemetery Nassagaweya Twp ON CAN. 

The couple were married in England and some of the children were also born in England before their migration to Canada.  They raised a family of 5 children on the farm.

                         Alexander & Elizabeth were married 
                    after Caroline Hirst's death and had 5 children

                   iii.   Herbert Hirst a bachelor
                   iv.  Mary Maude Hirst died with diphtheria as a child
