British Columbia is the most westerly province of Canada bordering on the Pacific Ocean and the USA


The coastal areas of this province were explored in the late 1700's by such famous explorers as Captain James Cook.  B.C. entered Canadian confederation in 1871 just a few years after Canada's organization in 1867.

The Wingrove families who settled in British Columbia during the early 1900's can be traced back to England and in particular to Wiltshire.

                                Wiltshire, England.
     He married FANNY M. 
      She was born Abt. 1843 in Hinton, Somerset, England.

Joseph and Fanny Wingrove had a family of five children and one their youngest son 
     JOHN James   WINGROVE b.  1877,

                                          d.    05 December 1959 Vancouver B C
                   married  Lilian Johnson  b. 1877
                                                     d.   Abt. 1920
     Their family set sail in 1907 to eventually arrive in British Columbia

     Additional settlement in British Columbia may have resulted from Wingrove families or individuals from Canada's provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan as well as the USA.  British Columbia has one of the mildest climates of the provinces of Canada.  Good weather may have been the drawing card for settlement in this area.
