Mustered in service June 6,1861 to Company "C" 22nd Regiment Virginia Infantry by Lieutenant Reed for 1 years service at Kanawha Courthouse. Present on roll September 4th 1861 for service between 6/6/1861 to 9/4/1861-notation states has not yet been paid.

(Historical note on this document: This regiment subsequently became Company "K", 22nd Regiment Virginia Infantry. The 22nd ,also known as the 1st Kanawha Regiment Virginia Infantry, was organized about April 25,1861 and accepted into Confederate service July 1,1861 and reorganized May 1 1862)

Absent on undated roll referring to service for March and April 1862 due to being left sick at Lewisburg. Also states that he has enlisted for duration of war as of May 1,1862, and that his enlistment was done by Captain McDonald at White Sulphur Springs.

Present on roll November 1 1862 for service in September and October 1862. Paid up to date to September 1862. 
Present on undated roll for service in November and December 1862.
Present on roll dated February 28 1863 for service in January and February 1863.
Present on roll dated December 30 1863 for service in November and December 1863.
      Paid by Captain Roberts on November 1st 1863..
Present on roll dated April 1 1864 for unspecified service.
     Paid up to January !,1864 by Captain Roberts.
Present on roll May 1 1864 for service in March and April 1864 .

It is noted on above roll that he was transferred to Company "I(?)",8th Virginia Cavalry on April 29 1864. pursuant to special order number 94/9 dated April 22,1864

(Historical note on this document-This company was formerly Cavalry Company "K" 22nd Regiment Virginia Infantry

Appears as absent on roll dated October 31,1864 for service between November 1, 1863 to October 31,1864, but has been absent on horse detail since October 15,1864.
Also states that he enlisted in this regiment on June 1 1864 in Campbell County by Captain Lewis for the rest of war. 
Last paid by Captain Clarke for service up to October 31,1863.
Appears on receipt for clothing for 4th quarter of 1864.
     Date of issue December 16 1864.
Appears on a list of prisoners of war paroled between May 1 to 31 1865 in various places in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland.

(Actual parole states paroled at Charleston West Virginia)

Actual copy of parole dated May 29 ,1865 states his description as age 33 years, height 6 foot, dark complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, light whiskers.
