QUERY: Hannibal B.
Coleman mar to Anna (Annie) Neven Davidson
My name is Linda
Greer, and I live in Mississauga, Ontario. I am the
great-granddaughter of Jessie Isobel DAVIDSON, who was Anna ‘Annie’
Neven DAVIDSON’s sister. I have a .JPG image, downloaded from
Ancestry.ca, of the record of Annie’s marriage to Hanibal B.
COLEMAN, son of James H. and Jane COLEMAN, on April 4, 1883.
It states that he was born in Lynden, Ontario (which is in
Flamborough Twp, Wentworth Co.) and that he was 27 years old, making
his birth year 1856.
Annie disappears from Canadian censuses after 1881, and family
‘lore’ has always maintained that she and her husband moved to
California. (At the moment I can’t remember whether the old
information specified the locale in California, or whether it was my
own research which led me to Lodi.) In any case, I concluded,
like you, that this is the family of the police constable
(subsequently city marshal) who showed up in Lodi from 1883 onward.
The problem is that all the Lodi Voters Registers between 1900 and
1908 (recently made available by Ancesty.com) show Hannibal B.
COLEMAN’s middle name as “Bertram”, not “Balthazar”, “Balshazzer” or
“Baltshazer”. Do you think that Hannibal simply “chose” a more
common name beginning with “B”, or was the Balthazar (Balshazzer)
COLEMAN shown as living in Beverly in 1861 a different person from
the one who married Anna Neven DAVIDSON and moved to Lodi in 1883?
I’ve tried resolving this by tracking down Hannibal’s father, James
H. COLEMAN, but there are so many contradictions. The 1900 US
Census says Hannibal’s father was born in Maine and his mother in
Germany. The 1910 and 1930 Censuses say New Jersey and
Pennsylvania, respectively. But in the intervening
census (1920), they were both shown as coming from New Jersey.
And just to add to the confusion, after years of indicating his
mother tongue as English, as one might expect, the 1930 Census
suddenly states that French was the language spoken in Hannibal’s
home before coming to the United States.

Hi I am interested in any information on a Elizabeth Cumberpatch
who married an Elijah Smith. I am not sure where they were
born. They had several children. Maria Smith was born in 1858
in Hannington her sister Fanny was born in approx 1866. The
other children I have listed for this couple are Ellen, Jack,
Steven, Elizabeth, Charles. Maria Smith married Frederick
Buswell on Oct 19, 1876 in Long Buckby Northhampton. Fanny married
Thomas Pickford , born in Moulton Northhampton in 1866, not
sure of the date. Maria Smith and Fanny Smith's children Oliver
Buswell and Nellie Pickford were married in 1921 in Saskatchewan,
Canada They were first cousins and my grandparents. If any one has any
info on the Cumberpatch or Smith family they descend
from, please reply. Thanks

Trying to find relatives of my great-grandfather's daughter. Charles Wingrove (1850-1908) had a daughter
Florence
Wingrove, born about 1885. Florence moved to BC, Canada. There she married a
Cook. Florence had three children, twin girls and a boy. I believe
one of the children's name was Marion.
Thank you

[CAN-3] I am a descendant of Eliza
Hunt, eldest daughter
of Thomas Hunt and Mary Fricker and sister of Mary Hunt Wingrove. I grew up in Alpena, MI,
where the Wingroves lived, and have quite a bit of information to share with you. Let me
know how much you want! I am the keeper of the Hunt family Bible, in which the births of
Mary and her siblings are recorded. I would like to know about Omar Wingrove
and Ann (?) Wingrove. Also, according to the Ontario census records, there was an Amos Wingrove,
born a year or so before Omar.
What do you know about these children?
