Mariah and John were probably married in Lewis County, VA now WVA. He was born in England
about 1745 or later. He came here to the USA in 1775 and landed in Loudon County, VA, This
is on the Chesapeake Bay area. He fought in the American Revolution. It looks like he was
married at least two times. Family undocumented notes say his first wife was an Elizabeth
Lunn or Lum. That was in Loudon County about 1792. His second wife was Mariah Huldfish and
that marriage was also in Loudon County. About 1814 he moved to Harrison Co VA now Lewis
County WVA to follow his oldest son William married the second time to Mathilda Lanham in
Harrison, Lewis County. This marriage is also documented As late as 1787 he is listed as
single in Cameron Parish, Loudon County, VA The church in VA collected the taxes prior to
the revolution. He is listed afterward as owning two horses and a log cabin. In 1780 he
was arrested for selling liquor without a license. Benjamin Mason turned him into the
authorities.

She may have adopted the name Trayhorn since she was
taken in by Sarah at such an early age. In 1804 the Chancery Court via the directors of
the poor placed John and Nancy wingrove into the home of William and Sarah Trayhorn. John
is the one who appears in Indiana County, PA. Nancy was never again heard from. John was
given to a slave trader in 1805 to be bound out because William Trayhorn died that year.
