Wingrove, an English doctor, concluded
that the pineapple was an aid to digestion and the juice of the pineapple
contained the protein-digesting enzyme "bromelain." He also gave directions
for the use of this fruit to supplement the digestion of protein foods when
the natural secretions of the stomach were deficient.

I head across to Warrandyte, planning to hear
guitar maestro Andy Baylor play, but this is the wrong week. That leaves
a toss-up between a classical recital at the magnificent Recital Gallery
hidden in the bush in Warrandyte North, or a mixed program of music, poetry
and short lectures by psychiatrist, musician and composer, Daniel Kahn. He
organises these informative, inspiring and unpredictable programs several
times a year at
Wingrove

Melissa: Wingrove BENNETT was my
grt, grt, grt. grandfather. He married Elizabeth CARRICO. She was born in
(Washington Co., Kty.) in 1806. As far as the family records, they did not
have a son named Charles T. BENNETT, but that does not mean they didn't.
Eliz. would have been 17 if she had given birth to Charles, and since there
is no record of marriage for Wingrove/Elizabeth it could have been
possible. The family believes they were married in (Sullivan Co.) Indiana,
but records were destroyed when the courthouse was burned . Their son, James
McCarthy BENNETT, Sr. is my grt, grt, grandfather. James was born 24 Mar 1826,
Sullivan Co., Ind. There were lots of Bennetts and Carricos in Indiana--Sullivan
Co., and surrounding counties. Wingrove was born in Bath, Berkley
Co., VA. We have found him in Dekora Twp., Columbia Co., Wisc. between 1850-1855
(WI. census) but not after that date. Eliz. was there between 1860-1865,
but not 1870. Their son James owned land in Wisconsin . He was also listed

I am looking for data on Archibald BAKER
& wife Sarah J(ane) Bohare both born, Ireland. Their child,
Sarah Jane Baker was born 1836, St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. By 1840
family was in USA, poss. Wisconsin. Archibald bought land in Sauk Co. Wisconsin,
1858. Sarah Jane Baker married James McCarthy BENNETT , 1853 in Wisc.
James' parents (Wingrove BENNETT / Elizabeth CARRICO) owned
land in bordering county of Columbia. I know nothing more of BAKERS except
their being from Ireland. Anyone have information? I am willing to share
descendants if I can. Doris Lobe Marysville, WA 98270

Graves Along the Trail Buried at

Mary
Ann Wingrove Price was born
at New Castle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, in the year 1882, a daughter
of Richard
Wingrove and Margaret Parker Wingrove.
It is not known when Mary Ann came to America, or if her family emigrated
as a unit. Family tradition tells us that she and her brother
Jacob lived in New York City where he
owned a jewelry shop and she kept house for him. Mary Ann married John Isaac
Price about 1852 in New York City. John was born May 10, 1830, at Gladestry,
Radnor, Wales, the son of John Price and Ann Cook Price, and the youngest
in a family of sixteen children. This marriage was a real romance, both being
very much in love. They evidently emigrated westward to Cincinnati, Hamilton
County, Ohio, where their first son, Isaac Thomas Price, was born 26 October,
1855.

Our Pioneer Heritage
Volume 8 The Year of 1864 From Wales Emigrant's
Guide
After the parents' death, several of the brothers
decided to emigrate to America, and John, now about sixteen, accompanied
them. John and his brother, Isaac, settled in New York City where Isaac died
soon after their arrival. John then assumed Isaac as his second name, and
thereafter signed his name, John Isaac Price. There had been a close bond
of love between the two brothers and the young boy felt homeless and alone.
For a time he drifted and traveled about in search of adventure, finally
finding employment in the great logging camps on the St. Lawrence River.
While in New York, John met beautiful
Mary Ann
Wingrove, daughter of Richard and
Margaret Parker Wingrove, a young lady recently from New Castle upon True,
England. She kept house for her bachelor brother, Jacob Wingrove, owner of
a jewelry shop. The two young people were married about 1852. This was, indeed,
a true romance. Mary Ann was twenty, of medium height, slender, with a rose-petal
complexion, dark blue eyes and a profusion of long black hair which she wore
parted in the middle and coiled loosely in an ample knot at the back of her
head.
