EDUCATION IN TOFIELD HAS EARLY BEGINNING p.58
http://www.tcnap.tofield.ab.ca/tales03.htm
67 km southeast of Edmonton Alberta CANADA
For many years Mr. Fred McHeffey was janitor at the school. In addition to his duties as janitor he was required to supervise the pupils' behaviour during the noon hour.

Mr. J.T. Bullock, B.A., became principal of the Tofield School in 1928. He specialized in the teaching of English; hunting and woodwork were his hobbies, he could coach any game from marbles to rugby. He was Church Warden of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and active in the social welfare work of the church. Mrs. Bullock also had her B.A. degree and did private tutoring in high school mathematics. She too, was active in church work.
During Mr. Bullock's regime, additional classrooms were constructed in the basement and gas heaters and lamps installed. The parents of rural pupils were given permission to construct a stable on the school grounds to accommodate the horses which conveyed the country children to school.
Following Mr. Bullock, in 1934 came Mr. O. Paul Thomas as principal. Mr. Thomas had a special interest in Tofield since his wife was the former Mildred Carter, one of Tofield's early telephone operators. Mr. Thomas was interested in music and trained choruses for the music festivals. He was an ardent curler. In 1934, the staff consisted of: Mr. Thomas, Mrs. McIntyre, Mr. Broughton, Miss Stewart (now Mrs. Everitt), Mrs. Wingrove and Miss Forester.

In 1937, Mr. W. McDonnell became assistant principal. Mr. Larry McLeah joined the staff the same year, other members of which were Miss Stewart, Miss Wingrove, Miss McCrea (now Mrs.S.J. Sears).

Mr. McDonnell, later principal of Camrose High School, has these memories of the spring of 1938. "Mr. Thomas left in the spring to work for the Department of Meteorology. I inherited his chorus which was preparing for the musical festival at Camrose (accompanist, Mrs. Stinson) and a few days later the roof blew off,

Club History - how a club was born . . .
In the Beginning.... Chipstead RFC was born in the late summer of 1959 when John Shackel and several of his young friends who included Colin Cronk and Tony Wingrove decided to form a Rugby Club. The club had no pitch, no clubhouse, and only about eight likely players of whom Ian Fraser (the first club captain) John Mason, Richard Hewett and Peter Long are names that spring to mind. The chances of success were not very great as Chipstead was right in the middle of a very strong Club and Old Boys area: the immediate neighbours included Warlingham, Reigate and Sutton with the old boys sides of Caterhamians, Whitgiftians, Mid Whitgiftians and Reigatians close by.

Hello: I was just surfing around and came across this site Descendants of John Wingrove. This just exploded in front of me....Not sure if by chance we are distant relations....I am also not sure of the area you speak about. Well this is all very vague to me but when I was little I remember visiting a Wingrove I think in Carlisle just outside of Waterdown Ontario...I remember my mom and aunt talking about Gunstone Corners.
We had cousins called Grays from a farm outside of Carlisle. I called him grandpa Gray who also owned a quarry. When they turned the farm over to their son, Russle Gray, they moved into a ranch bungalow  in Carlisle. My grandmothers name was Isobella ???who died when my mom was only five and she had a twin brother's named Gar. I have lost all my information on this...she married a traveling salesman...my grandfather which at the moment I can't remember his first name but his last name was Gunstone. One of my cousins a Gray named Marie married a Alex MacDonald who owned a farm outside of Carlisle and down the road from her dad (Gray) farm. They had two kids, Larry and Mary Jane. Grandpa Gray helped build the school. My fondest memories was of summers spent on the farm at my cousin  Mary Jane MacDonald. Other name I remember was Charlie Richter. ?????? My mom's name was Elaine and her twin, my uncle, Gar, the youngest of a large family. Viola, Mertle, Lorna, Loyde, Elaine & Garfield Gunstone. There only three of us left and between us we have only broken information.
Well forgive me for this jumbled mess of words. You got "em" as I was trying to recall. Who knows we might be related in some sort of way. But that information would have to come from your side to connect us up as I have said, I have lost anything in writing. Reading your site brought back thoughts I had hidden away Thank you for a moment in time. Sandy Pestill
