Heinrich Frederick (Henry F.) Klostermeier, Sr. was born 09 Jun 1860 in Preus Minden, and he emigrated to southern Indiana with his family in 1867. Henry learned the trade of a tinsmith while here, and he continued that trade after moving to Atchison, Kansas, in 1879. He first worked for another man who was a tinner and hardware merchant before opening his own tinshop about 1884.

On 27 Sep 1885, Henry married Mary E. Weik at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison.note1 Then about 1887, he co-founded the hardware firm of Klostermeier & Wolf with John Wolf. The following year, Henry's brother, William, bought out his partner and the firm became Klostermeier Brothers Hardware Company, which continued in Atchison until 1937.
Prior to this, Mary had died 17 Sep 1933. Henry had recently begun a new business before dying 5 Mar 1939. They had the following children:
Henry's parents were Christian Klostermeier and Karolina Kin, a daughter of August and Louise Kin. Christian was born about 1817, and Karolina was born about 1823, presumably both in Preus Minden. They arrived with most of their children in New York 16 Sep 1867 after sailing from Bremen aboard the steamer "Deutschland". Their eldest son, Louis, had previously sailed aboard the "Ocean", landing in Baltimore on 8 Nov 1865.
The family joined Louis near the town of Newburg in Warrick County, Indiana. At some point afterward, they all moved a short distance to the town of Boonville in the same county. Christian died here after the census of 1870 and prior to 1879, the year in which the majority of his family relocated to Atchison, Kansas. Karolina joined her children in this move, leaving only two sons, a daughter, and their respective families behind. Frederica later joined the others by 1895, probably after the death of her husband in 1887. Karolina then died 06 Apr 1899 in Atchison. Christian and Karolina had the following children, all born in Prussia except the youngest:
