Philip Brandt or Barnett was born in 1746 in Swabia, , Germany. He died in 1846 in Carbon Township, Huntingdon County, , Pennsylvania. He was buried in 1846 in farm north of, Dudley, Huntingdon County, , Pennsylvania. He married Barbara Easter Heeter.

Age at time of death, Philip was 100. Philip Barnet was also a Rev. War Vet. Please see "Horton Genealogy and History" complied 1929 by Prof. George W. Alloway A.B. of Saxton, PA. ==========================================================================

Philip Brandt was born Swabia, Germany. He was among the many young men and women that were brought over in Colonial times by the Virginia Planters and bound to work for a certain period of time to pay for their passage. Barbara Heeter was supposedly a bonded servant also. They were married during the 1770's and were found living in Lampeter Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. Two of the children were baptized in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Reformed Church in Lancaster. After Philip's war service, the family moved to Washington Co., MD.

Prior to 1801 he acquired 600 acres in Bedford and Huntingdon Counties, PA.

When they settled in Huntingdon County they made their home in what is now known as Carbon Twp. Philip was a farmer and his farm was located near the village of Dudley, PA. He built a log house and barn. The house was torn down many years ago, but the barn stood and was still being in use during the 1970's.

Philip and Nathan Horton both discovered rich veins of coal on their farms. Philip started a business of selling coal. It was hauled by wagon or sleigh as far away as Chambersburg, PA and Hagerstown, MD. This family business provided comfortable life for his family. After his death, and his estate settled, his son Philip II sold the farm land and coal mine and moved to Fulton Co. By 1856 the old Barnett mine was opened by its new owners, investors Orbison, Dorris, Burroughs Co. and worked. A small village named Barnettstown sprung up. Miners working the mine lived there.

Philip and Barbara Barnet are buried on their farm under a sugar maple tree. Will on file in the Huntingdon Co. Courthouse. Will Book 4; pages 491; 492;493. They had a family of nine children, but I believe there was a ten year old child who died in Huntingdon Co. who had a son Isaac.

An Isaac was provided for in his Grandfather's will. The 1830 census lists Philip Barnet Sr.; Philip Barnet Jr.; Isaac Barnet; Christian Barnet and Jacob Barnet in that order.

The above information from Mrs. Millie Lowther of Kent, OH.

Coal-Mines
The Old Barnet Mine, at the village of Barnet, was opened in 1856 by Orbison, Dorris, Burroughs & Co., and was worked by them and their lessees during about twenty years, when operations ceased. In the spring of 1882 work was recommenced by the present lessees, P. Madigan & Sons. At first the Barnet vein was worked, but afterward a tunnel was driven to the Cook Vein, which is the one now operated. This vein has a thickness of two and one-half feet, and the heading extends three hundred yards. The capacity of the mine is forty tons daily. The lessees are the superintendents.

Katie Miller married Earnest R. McCraw around November 1910...Bates County, Adrian, MO. I have a copy of their marriage certificate and will give you the information at a later date. They had 6 children:

Frances Bernice ( March 9th, 1912-September 13th, 2005); Abigail Susan (December 25th, 1913-Feb. 3, 1973) Mildred Opal (Feb.28th, 1915-still living), Velma Lee (July 29th, 1916-still living), Earnestine (Nov. 4th, 1918-still living), James (October (?)1920-1921-still living).

Katie and her husband E. R. McCraw can be found on the 1920 Census for Bates County MO. The 5 girls are listed...except Velma is misprinted and listed as Thelma. Uncle Jim was born after the 1920 Census...I'm just not sure which year.

Katie died March 5th, 1922. Her birthday was listed as November 27th, 1885(?)...the death certificate stated that she was 36 years, 3 months, 9 days old. She died from pneumonia due to influenza.

At the present...that is all I have. Thanks again for sharing information. Do you know if any of the family came to Missouri???
