GLENN F. ROBERTS, 88 of Milan died on Feb. 14, 1989 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1901 in Blandsburg, Pa. the son of William and Sarah Chilcoat Roberts. On June 11, 1925 he married the former Clara Samson. He attended schools in the Blandsburg area but lived in the Valley most of his life. He was a very active member of the Milan United Methodist Church holding many church offices over the years. He was employed as a clerk with the Lehigh Valley Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1954. He then worked at the Chrysler-Plymouth garage in Athens until 1979. Mr. Roberts served in the U.S. Army from 1920-1923. He held memberships in Rural Amity Lodge #70 F&AM, Athens, Union Royal Arch Chapter #161, Towanda; Northern Commandery #16, Towanda; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Consitory, Towanda; Northern Council #24, Athens, Irem Temple, Dallas, Pa.; Northeastern York Rite College #102, Williamsport; Bradford County Shrine Club; Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc., and the I.O.O.F., Wysox. Mr. Roberts was also a former Milan Correspondent for the Evening Times, Sayre. He is survived by his wife, two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Anna Mae Roberts of Towanda; Kenneth and Alona Roberts of Toughkenamon, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Byrd (Annabel) King of Towanda, Mrs. Duane (Marion) Klinko of Greene’s Landing; four brothers, William of Athens, Aden of Essex Junction, Vt., Milan of Willis, Va., Leon of Horseheads; five grandchildren, Nancy Roberts of Towanda, Stephen Roberts of Parkersburg, Pa., Glenda Reynolds of Cochranville, Pa., Melissa Roberts of Newark, Del., Stacey Roberts of Toughkenamon, Pa. and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Inez VanAllen and Hazel Johnson and a brother, Joseph. Friends may call at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 S. Main St., Athens from 7-9 p.m. Thursday with Masonic services to be held there at 7 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be held at the Milan United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. SAMSON –CLARA S. ROBERTS, 87 formerly of Milan passed away Aug. 9, 1991 after a lengthy illness. Born in Milan Oct. 15, 1903 she was the daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth Kitchen Samson. She graduated from Athens High School in 1923. A graduate of Mansfield Normal School, she taught school in Greens Landing for several years. Mrs. Roberts worked in several dress shops in the Valley. She was a member of the Tioga Point Chapter DAR, O.E.S. No. 43, Sayre, was past president of Athens-Sayre BPW of the Bradford Count Republican Women and the Ulster, Sheshequin, Milan and East Smithfield Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Susquehanna Valley Audubon Society. Mrs. Roberts was active and the oldest living member of the Milan United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Glenn F. Roberts in 1989. She is survived by two sons; Glenn Roberts of Towanda and Kenneth Roberts of Toughkenamon, Pa.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Rheta Harder of Lewisburg and Mrs. Genevieve Jennings. One nephew also survives. Friends may call at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 S. Main St., Athens on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral and committal service will be held there Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jon Bausman, her pastor officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens. She was born June 12, 1906 in Athens Township, the daughter of Benson and Anna May Breese Jones. She was a member of the Wetona United Methodist Church. She was a 60-year member of the Grange. She was a member of the Valley Grange and now the Union Grange #155 in West Burlington, PA. She was a member of the East Smithfield WCTU. She enjoyed the activities of the Troy Senior Citizens for several years, especially being a member of the kitchen band. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Reba Roberts of Shreveport, LA, Elwin and Beulah Roberts of Columbia Cross Roads RR 2; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley McKin of Weaverville, NC, Emily and Dean Shaffer of Geneseo, NY; Anita and Conrad Lewis of Rochester, NY; 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Manley and Bea Jones of Zephyrhills, FL; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Scott Roberts, in 1983; grandchildren, Kathy and Joel and brother, Raymond Jones. Byrd E. King, 85 of Kenilworth Avenue, Duluth Minn., died Wednesday, Sep. 28, 1999 in his residence.

He was born in Canton, PA., to Elmer and Mae King. He was the owner and operator of the King's Store, an appliance, floor covering and interior decorating business, prior to retiring in 1972. He was a member of Lester Park United Methodist Church and was previously a member of the Towanda United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Towanda Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Dalas, PA, Shrine. He was a charter member of the Elks and a member of Lake Wesauking Lake Association.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Winifred Kingsley.

Surviving are his wife, Ann; a son, Mike (Teresa Norberg) of Duluth; three grandchildren, Stephanie of Dallas, Texas, and Nicholas and Alexandra, at home; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, Oct 3 1999, at the Lester Park, Minn., United Methodist Church. The family prefers memorials.

She was born Jan. 18, 1916, the daughter of the late William Roberts and Sarah Chilcoate in Bellwood, Pa. She married Duane W. Klinko in 1935. Marion was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker who was especially devoted to her family who will miss her. She was a graduated of Athens High School where she was active in musical productions and women's basketball. She enjoyed cooking and baking, playing pinochle, reading and was an avid bowler winning a Pennsylvania State Title at the age of 70. She was a past Matron of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of the Athens Trinity Episcopal Church. Marion is survived by a son and daughter in law, Duane and Jane Klinko of Waverly and their children, Joel and Neil; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and James Krouse of Clarion, Pa. and their children, Jennifer, Jeremy and Eric Krouse all of Clarion. She is also survived by a brother, Milan Roberts of Floyd, VA; a sister, Virginia and a very special friend, Ed McMahon of Greenslanding, Pa. several nieces and nephews. Milan Elwood (Bob) Roberts, 89, of Blacksburg died Wednesday, January 9, 2008. He was born April 10, 1918, in Milan, Pa., a son of the late William and Sara Roberts. Bob resided at Kroontje Health Care Center.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Doris E. Roberts; son and daughter-inlaw, Bruce and Sharon Roberts, of Olympia, Wash.; daughter, Carroll J. Roberts, LPN, of Christiansburg, Va.; grandchildren, Sean Roberts, Centralia, Wash., and Shannon Mundelius, Danville, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Karleigh Roberts, Wyatt Mundelius and Annabelle Mundelius. Milan had 11 siblings, surviving is Virginia Morris, Sayre, PA; and many, many nieces and nephews.

His career of 33 years with IBM took him from Ohio to Hawaii where he met and married Doris Lutts in 1949, then traveled to Rochester, N.Y., Boston, MA, Massepequa, N.Y., Tokyo Japan, and Stamford, Conn., until retiring in 1975 and moving to Willis, Va. and enjoyed farming until moving to Blacksburg.

In 2005 they moved to Warm Hearth Village, where Doris still resides. Milan was a dedicated Virginia Farm Bureau member and enjoyed supporting the Floyd County High School athletic teams. He enjoyed his 32 years in Virginia and has been blessed with a wonderful circle of friends.

Sincere thanks and appreciation to the caring and dedicated staff at the Kroontje Health Care Center, they truly made his 89th year extra special. Roberts Sr. who predeceased her in 1993 following 52 years of marriage, and loving mother to their two sons. Elsie survived the young loss of Dale G. Roberts in 1956 and the recent loss of Leon W. Roberts Jr. in 2006. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Helen Roberts of Sylvania, PA; two grandchildren, Melissa Baquis and Christopher Roberts; and five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, Kameron, Madison and Geoffrey. Elsie is also survived by a sister, Marjorie Williams of Waverly, NY; and a brother, Kenneth Nichols of Horseheads, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was devoted to her family and she dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and especially loved to hold all the babies in the family. Through the years Elsie was very close to Kenneth's family. She was a special sister to her "little brother" and a special Aunt to all his kids and grandkids and great-grandkids. Elsie worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp. and had been a member of the Sullivanville Methodist Church. Her favorite time spent was with family and friends, playing cards, puzzles and crafts.
