Wm James Little a private of Captain W. W. Warner's, Company C, of the Twelfth Iowa Infantry Volunteers, was enlisted by A. M. Smith of the Twelfth Regiment of Iowa Infantry at Fayette, Iowa on the 22nd day of September 1861, to serve three years; he was born in Barnun Co. in the State of Rhode Island, is eighteen years of age, five feet six inches high, light complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair and by occupation when enlisted a farmer.

General Affidavit, Dec 25, 1889, state of Kansas, Mitchell County, in the matter of the claim for pension of William J. Little, age 46 years, a resident of vicinity of Glen Elder, Mitchell County, Kansas... and am William J. Little who served as a private in Co C, 12th Iowa Inf and that have returned home from the army in Spring of 1865, and that soon after left that part of that state and have never returned but have written to some of my old neighbors there and cannot hear from them. So I conclude they are either dead or have removed to other places. I received a letter from the post master at Brush Creek,(Fayette Co.) Iowa, who informed that parties that I inquired about were not there anymore, that they were either dead or have moved a way and they were unknown to him. Brush Creek P.O. is where I resided when I entered the service and would be the P.O. address of my old neighbors if they were alive and still resided in that vacinity.

Little, age 5, born VA, Hugh H. Little, age 3, born IA, Alma E. Little, age 2, born IA, and John Eilbert, age 23, born England. These Little families may have been known to William J. Little, though it is unclear if they are related.

Little, age 26, born VA, occupation cooper. This Merritt Smith, perhaps may be the A. M.
