Peter Balsam" arrived on the ship St. Andrew into the Port of Philadelphia on August 18 (some say 10th), 1750, with his second wife Anna Maria and maybe 8 children. (Three of the older children were married). They located in Fredrick County, Maryland.

The Rev. Isaiah Baltzell is listed as being from the Peter line. He was born November 26, 1832 in Fredrick, Maryland and died January 16, 1893. He was a prolific writer of religious songs with at least four music books published and served as the editor of Etude magazine for awhile. It appears he descended from one of Hans Peter's other sons, either Peter or John since Henry left Maryland around 1790. Isaiah was the father of Winton James Baltzell (W.J.) who wrote the History of Music which was widely used as a text book in a number of schools. Another famous musician was a John Baltzell, born Sept 23, 1860, and died in 1940. He recorded a number of records and was well known as a champion old time fiddle player as well as being a composer. I have not found the connection for him yet. The father of Judge Robert C. Baltzell, Henry H., was a brother of John C.
