PAYZANT, Ernest Osborne - Ernest Osborne Payzant passed away Sunday morning, December 11, 1938 at his home in Port Medway, after a lengthy illness, borne with courage and fortitude. For a time he was a patient in the Sanatorium in Kentville but has been at home for fourteen years. He spent the last two years in bed in order to conserve his strength. He was always hopeful and his many friends will miss his cheery greeting and helpful suggestions. He was skilful and clever, possessing great ability in problems and puzzles, winning many competitive rewards. He was interested in world affairs through the medium of radio and took an active part in the community as the postmaster as long as his health permitted. He will be remembered as a generous and honourable neighbour, a virtuous and upright citizen. Mr. Payzant was born in Western Head in 1893 and came to Port Medway over 20 years ago. He is survived by his widow (Maude Hiltz) who was his devoted and faithful nurse, two daughters, Dorothy, clerk in the post office and Marie attending school. His mother Mrs. Sarah Payzant survives but his father Asa Payzant passed away recently. His two brothers are Capt. A. A. Payzant. Liverpool and William of Western Head and four sisters, Sadie, Mrs. Joseph Gerhardt of Western Head; Annie, Mrs. Roy Hiltz, Port Medway; Florence, Mrs. Lynwood Fralick, Halifax and Jessie, Mrs. Victor Charlton, Halifax. He was predeceased by a brother Charles and a sister Effie. In religion, Mr. Payzant was a devout Anglican and the funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon conducted bye the Rev. J. Rand. "Saved by Grace" was sung by Mr. John Scammel. Interment was in the Anglican cemetery. The sympathy of friends is with the sorrowing and bereaved family.
