"The Mullins children became wards of the county after the death of their mother about a month after their father drowned. The rules were very loose in those days before social services and Children's Aid as we are fortunate to have to-day. The older children probably were taken into families as servants to help, the younger ones had to depend on caring souls to help them out. At this time we do not know what fate these children met. Hannah Mullins turned up years later in Halifax County as the wife of James Walker, a deputy land surveyor of the Margaret's Bay area. She found her sister Maria Coombs who had married Eben Coombs [Sr.] when she moved to Milton in 1880." " The Mullins family appear to have lived near Liverpool, at an area called Birch Point. Other records show a rock known as Mullins Rock at the mouth of a small brook that runs into the river about where in 1996 Maxwell McLeod lives.
