Notes for Ruth Belva Seidel
1. Ruth Seidel was the daughter of Robert and Lola Belva Seidel. Robert Seidel worked as a boiler maker for the railroad. These jobs were not permanent, so he moved from railroad company to railroad company for work. They lived in many places when Ruth was growing up, she was born in San Bernardino, California, but never lived there long. When Ruth was in High School, they were living in Lincoln, Nebraska. She worked after school during high school as a cashier in the basement (money tubes were sent down for change, and she sent the money back to the store floor) of Ruge & Gundells Department store. She learned to sew on a treadle sewing machine, earning money as a seamstress and she sewed all her own clothes. Just before her senior year, Ruth’s dad had to take a job transfer to Denver in 1925, so her parents moved to Denver, and Ruth lived with her friend Bernice in Lincoln, Nebraska, graduating from High School there. During her senior year of school, she worked for the school board. She moved in 1926 to Denver to live with her parents, getting work at Styles Machinery Company in Denver. In 1929 her parents bought a house at 4923 Raleigh Street. Ruth lived there with her parents until she married, and her parents lived there until they died.1
2. Ruth Belva Smith of Mesa, AZ passed away January 12, 2007 in Mesa. She was born in San Bernardino, CA on July 24, 1906. She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Smith.
