They Came To Indian Territory

Selected Families And Data

This is a work in progress and is being updated weekly. It includes research on three Black families - the Fosters, Harpers and Sneeds. After slavery was abolished in 1859, these families went to or came out of Indian Territory, Choctaw Nation. They are all interconnected because marriages of some of the children or descendents to one another. Their descendents include individuals with the surnames of Evans, Foster, Harper, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Keats, Thompson, Rice, Sutton and Yeagins.
