He died at home from a fire caused by starting a fire in the heating stove with kerosene. The house was not damaged.

Morna married Hugh Leedle, they moved to ND and then to British Columbia and then to Kelso, Cowlitz, WA.
from interview with A.M. Harrison - "Tinsie", Morna's older daughter
Hugh and his brother Joe Leedle had a ranch in Wilmot, SD when they went to Park Rapids, MN and met Morna. Hugh and Morna married and lived in Wilmot and two children were born there (Joe and Sherly). all of Hugh's family moved to Palermo, ND 1901-1903 and each had ranches there. Tinsie and Marguerite were born there. Grandma Phipps had made Tinsie a dress with 1 1/2 ft wide embroidery on the bottom; it blew away in a high wind from clothesline. In 1904-5 a prairie fired started; Morna was pregnant but she ran ahead of the fire with Joe on horseback behind her and Muggs in the saddlebag and Tinsie running with her, she carried gold money pinned to her clothes on her chest, and it rubbed the skin off her chest as she ran. Morna had a size 3 shoe. In 1910 in the fall before Thanksgiving, they moved to Canada, 20 miles from Piapot (Maple Creek), south of Saskatoon, Saask. Hugh and his brothrs moved because they weren't making a living in ND. They got half a section and homesteaded and built a one room shack. He took out naturalization papers for himself and Morna, but she was horrified. She later went to visit her brother Walt in Chinook, MT, and as she crossed the Canadian line into USA she stood up and swung her hat and whooped - there was a post every mile at border. Walt's son Herbert came up to visit Leedles in Piapot.. they lived there 8 years - bought a house and added on to it. A fire in the one room shack burned it down and left them with only the clothes they had on. Sister Orilla and her husband Harry Benjamin came to Piapot about Thanksgiving and he did carpentry and helped build house while they lived with them over winter. It was in town. the gov't was giving 5 cents a tail for gophers. Hugh said he'd give the kids 10 cents, so they worked hard with dog Gip helping grab and flip them; but he couldn't pay them. They sent him a bill in th mail, but he tore it up and never paid them. They only had one good crop in 8 years, so in 1918 they moved to Little Fort (Mount Olie), B.C. Hugh's brother Rube was married and had 2 boys and went with Hugh to B.C. scouting for place to live. They bought a place in partnership. Family sent stuff by train and they drove in Model T Ford car and camped along the way (kids didn't dare talk while driving, but cup up when they reached camp). One night they found beads under a tree which turned out to be a burial tree for Indians (the clothes had rotted and beds fell down) - they never left camp the rest of the night. Tinsie saved the car from sliding down hill by jumping out and grabbing rock and putting it behind the wheel. It took them a week to travel, finally ferring across Salmon Arm Lake to narrow crooked road and they camped out on the property on arriving. The property surrounded the village. Hugh bought a house in the village and he did logging. He hired Indians to clear off the property and raised some crops for horses. In 1928 they moved to Kelso, WA. Uncle Rube left B.C. before Hugh did and went to Seattle with Frank and Joe. Rilla and Harry were living in Longview, WA and wrote that they were building a big Weyerhauser mill in the town. Hugh lied about his age and worked in the powerhouse until he retired.

Joyce Keay Lundin's grandmothr Sarah Estelle Phipps Keay was a dressmaker and spent her life in the Park Rapids area. She survived her husband by about 20 years, which time she spent on the little farm near Potato Lake north of Park Rapids. Winters were spent with her famiy in Minneapolis and the last few years of her life she lived at the Masonic Home in Minneapolis, MN.

Joyce Keay Lundin's grandfather Oliver left Mars Hill, ME at 25 and migrated to north Minnesota where he was a surveyor and timber cruiser. He was on an expdeition with Willard Glazier to discover the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Since Henry Schoolcraft had declared Lake Itasca to be the headwaters, Glazier's claim that Elk Lake south of Itasca was the true headwaters created a great controversy, ending with the State of MN legislature establishing Itasca as headwaters, not-withstanding that Elk Lake empties into Lake Itasca and should be considered the proper headwaters. The Indians who truly knew the land called Elk Lake "Gatering of the Waters" from the marshes and streams that flowed into it and thence into Lake Itasca.
Oliver also built at least one log lodge in the Park Rapids area at Two Inlets, had a large sawmill on the Fishhook River in Park Rapids, and was involved in Re-surveying property lines for the government. He was active in Politics and has a letter from Pres. Woodrow Wilson. He bought a steam powered tractor and hauled a vertical long house onto his property near the dam on Potato River, 5 miles north of Park Rapids where he converted it into a while siding cottage where he and his wife Sadie lived and farmed 40 acres until his death in 1929.

Oliver Storer, Joyce's Keay Lundin's father attended U of MN , electrical engineering school, worked as motion picture projectionist in Minneapolis where he moved to attend the U of M. Married and raised family of 3 girls. Was active in ham radio, building his own transmitter, member of mobile radio corps, trained young men in Morse code before they entered service in WWII. Was active in Masonry and Eastern Star. In 1959 relocated to Titusville, FL where he worked at the RCA Testing Lab at Cape Kennedy until retiring in 1965. After a long trip around the country visiting friends and relatives he died suddenly in 1966.

Emma, Joyce's mother was raised in northern MN, she taught in a one-room school, married and moved to Minneapolis while her family moved to California. Of all the family of her grandfather, Henry Hilton Wood, she was the only one who stayed back east when they all migrated to southern California. She was a homemaker and raised 3 daughters. Active in Eastern Star.
