THOMAS BARRETT was born Abt. 1845 in Alabama, and died Bef. 1900 in James (Hamilton) County, Tennessee. He married ELIZABETH. She was born Abt. 1836 in Georgia, and died Aft. 1900.

The 1850 census of Lawrence County, Alabama (8th District, page 383, dwelling 263) lists the family of Robert (age 43) and Margaret Barrett (age 32). The youngest male in the household is Thomas R. Barrett, age 1. Six other children are listed in the household. The 1850 census of Pickens County, Alabama (Southern Dist., pg. 95, dwelling 1253) lists the family of Samuel (age 58) and Mary Barrett (age 36). The youngest male in the family is listed as Thomas J. Barrett, age 3. Six other children are listed.These are the only Thomas Barretts listed in the index to the 1850 Alabama census. There is a chance that one of these two Thomases is our Thomas Barrett but there is no evidence to link either to Thomas Barrett of James County, Tennessee.

Generation No. 2

THOMAS M. BARRETT(THOMAS¹) was born February 1868 in Tennessee, and died Abt. 1931 in possibly Boynton, Oklahoma. He married ELIZA J. Abt. 1888 in Tennessee. She was born August 1871 in Georgia. Thomas and family moved to Oklahoma some time after 1900. Thomas and Eliza probably died near Boynton, Muskogee County, Oklahoma.  Family legend states they are buried near Boynton. Family legend also says that Thomas maintained a second wife and family in Texas while still married to Eliza.  I have found no evidence to support this.

HESSIE MELINDA BARRETT (THOMAS M.², THOMAS¹) was born May 29, 1892 in Hamilton Co., Tenn., and died August 8, 1969 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ark. She married JAMES GUY WHITSETT in 1910, son of WILLIAM WHITSETT and FANNIE MCDANIEL. He was born May 22, 1890 in Mississippi, and died April 21, 1956 in Alma, Crawford Co., Arkansas.

He married (1) BONNIE DELOIS ALLEN July 14, 1945 in Van Buren, Crawford Co., Arkanas, daughter of JOHN ALLEN and FLORENCE BREWER. She was born June 25, 1924 in Rudy, Crawford Co., Arkansas, and died November 16, 1991 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Arkansas. He married (2) IVA LOIS CORBITT May 27, 1947 in Van Buren, Crawford Co., Ark., daughter of EDGAR CORBIT and ANNIE RHODES. She was born August 23, 1927 in Muldrow, Oklahoma.
