- Marriage: Catherina GRABER [1868]
- Died: 1763 at age 103 1
General Notes:
From the book, "The Witmer Family" compiled by Maxine Blankenhorn Bennett, pub. by Clifford H. Bennett, 1984 Johannes (Hans) Widmer, son of Johann Jakob Widmer, of Sumiswald, Switzerland, fled during the persecutions of the 18th Century to Voverence near Vaufrey, Doubs, in France. Later, he was found among the Swiss Mennonites wandering in Germany and France. They had fled to the Upper Rhine Valley, and were residing in Perry, a town in the German Palatinate near the French border. Many of these people wandered into Alsace and most eventually went to America. Hans was the progenitor of the widely ramified Mennonite Widmer families, and was listed among the early Mennonite Ministers. He was listed in the congregation on the Ziehmerhof, one hour (4 miles) from the city of Wimpfen on the Neckar River, to the northwest. Born about 1660, Hans had attained the age of 103 at his death. Their five sons and two daughters left numerous progeny, some of whom emigrated to America. 1
