Who Are These Whitfills?

Occasionally, on my searches on the internet, I come across the surname Whitfill on another website. So far, all I have come up with are more questions. So, below are listed the mystery Whitfills. Maybe if we can find out who they were and what piece they are in the puzzle, we'll find the connection to yet another generation of ancestors.

Lt. Jacob Whitfill - found on an index of Revolutionary War Muster Rolls.

Mary Whitfill - burial date: 02 December 1728 other information: Taunton? - found on the Genuki website, under burials from Wellington, St. John, Somerset, England.

John Whitfill - from the 1881 Wolborough, Devon, England Census - age 60 (born 1821), occupation: house owner, born in Devonport, Devon, England, married to Jane.

Thomas Whitfill - from the 1881 Plymouth St. Andrew, Devon, England Census - age 62 (born 1819), occupation: carpenter, born in Plymouth, Devon, England, married to Charlotte.

Once I found a few mentions of Whitfill in England, I of course wanted to find more. While searching the net, someone told me of a site from the UK that had many references to Whitfill and Whitfield. To visit this goldmine of information, click here.

While I have absolutely no idea if these Whitfills have any connection with the Whitfills of today, it's nice to know that Whitfill has been around as a surname as early as the 1580's.
