Joseph and Sarah Youngkin Esch

wpe2.jpg (57803 bytes)     wpe5.jpg (58358 bytes)

Joseph Esch and wife Sarah Youngkin (parents of Adam Esch), on the occasion of their 50th anniversary, so that would be in 1876. They were both born in 1808 in Northampto County, PA.  After buying a 114 acre farm in Northampton Co., they began selling it in 10 acre parcels the very next year, and then moved to western PA, settling in Indiana County.
Sarah & Joseph had 12 children (one died in infancy). Sarah died in 1892 and Joseph in 1898, at the age of 90. They were buried in Bethel Church Cemetery, Brush Valley, Indiana Co., PA. Sarah's father Henry Youngkin was also buried in that same cemetery, and he was also the father of DavidYoungkin who moved to Cambria Co. (buried in Beaver Valley Cemetery).
Joseph's father was Michael Esch, Jr., whose father Michael Esch came toPhiladelphia in 1751. They were both  farmers in Northampton Co. The Elder Michael was one of two Esches who arrived in Phila. in October of that year, the other being Jacob Esch, who is believed to be the progenitor of the Mennonite Esch family. He may also have been a brother of Michael, though
there is no evidence to support it, other than their names appearing together on the ship's list. They arrived on the ship "Duke of Wirtemburg", under captain Montpelior, and which had embarked from Rotterdam and Cowles.  I am told that it was common for European ships to first stop at Cowles, England for provisions and permission from the British government before
sailing to the Colonies.
The second photo shows Sarah & Joseph in 1886 on the occasion of their 60th
anniversary (Sarah finally got rid of that hat !).

Bob

wpeA.jpg (30734 bytes)

This photo shows Adam Esch & Hannah (Glass) Esch [seated at the left, with some of the grandchildren] at a family reunion which took place around 1895, when his son, Perry Adam, was about 16. Hannah's parents were Margaret Troxel and Joseph Glass.
Perry is standing in the first row to the right of the table, third from the front. Maggie (Esch) Yearick is standing in that same row, fifth from the front, and holding daughter Vesta. Maggie was the oldest and Perry was the youngest of Hannah's six children. Also in the photo are the four children of Julia Walters, Adams first wife. I have the names of all, if anyone needs to know.

Perry & Pearl Moore Esch on their Wedding Day

wpeC.jpg (36617 bytes)

This photo was taken around 1970. In the back row (LR) are: Dick Crowell, Carol (Esch) Crowell, Robert Esch (that's me!), Byron Esch, Mary (Rauch) Esch, Shirley (Esch) Blarr, Marion (Esch) Vazquez, and Pat Vazquez. Seated (LR) are Scott & Amber Crowell, and Shari & Lori Vazquez, the only grandchildren at that date. Carol is pregnant in the photo, but would later lose the child. They subsequently adopted two more - Melissa & Dale. Melissa has an African/Russian ancestry and Dale a Spanish ancestry.
The photo was taken by Donald Blarr. I was married in 1971, so was single in
this photo.
