Philipsburg – Rebecca Lynn Anderson, 33, of
Philipsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at Philipsburg Area Hospital.
Born Sept. 21, 1972, at Altoona, she was the daughter of Paula Stachura
of Philipsburg. Ms. Anderson was employed at Uni-Mart as a clerk. In
addition to her mother, she is survived by her fiancé, Randy
"Slim" Nearhood of Philipsburg; three sons, Dylan Hoover,
Vegas Nearhood and Randy Robert Nearhood III, all of Philipsburg; a
daughter, Mercedes Nearhood of Philipsburg; a brother, Leonard Bennett
of Philipsburg; grandmother, Alice Kutruff of Irvona; great-grandmother,
Ruth Diehl of Irvona; great-grandfather, Delbert Diehl of Irvona; and
aunt; and two uncles. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow
at Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc., Irvona, with Rev. Sanders
"Andy" Anderson and the Rev. Dewey Evans co-offciating.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends will be received from
2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
BAIRD, LINA E.
Lina E.Baird of Irvona, died at 1:15 a.m. yesterday. She
was born in Chest Twp, on July 12, 1881, a daughter of James and Esther
(Hockenberry) Welsh, and in 1938 married William Baird, who died May 15,
this year. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Killion of Irvona and
Mrs. Minnie Bathgate of Altoona, and several nieces and nephews. Friends
will be received at the Hunter-Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona, after 7 p.m.
today.
BALLAROTTO, VINCENT
LaJose - Vincent Ballarotto, 81, of LaJose RD died in
the Altoona Hospital Saturday at 9:05 p.m. He was born in Italy Feb. 28,
1893, a son of Luigi and Catherine (Peponie) Ballarotto. Surviving are
his wife, the former Lucy Trape, five sons and one daughter: Luigi, Alex
and Frank, all of LaJose RD; V. Wilson, Ansonville; Rudolph, Irvona RD;
and Mrs. Martin (Linda) Miller, Vienna, Va. Eight grandchildren also
survive. Mr. Ballarotto was a retired lumberman. He had resided in this
country since 1913. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from
the Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral Home at Irvona. Rev. Howard Swan will
officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, LaJose. The family
will receive friends today at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10

LaJose - Funeral services for Estie Barrett of
Clarksburg, W. Va., will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Fairview
Baptist Church at LaJose R.D. Mr. Barrett, a former resident of LaJose,
died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday in the home of a granddaughter at Birmingham,
Ala. The Rev. Nelson Harris of the Reynoldsville Baptist Church of West
Virginia and the Rev. Howard Swan of the Fairview Baptist Church of
LaJose R.D. will officicate at the services. Friends may call at the
church from 1 p.m. Thursday until time of services. Mr. Barrett was born
at LaJose R.D. Aug 3, 1888, a son of Edmund W. Barrett and Teressa
(Bloom) Barrett. He was a member of the Reynoldville Baptist Church of
West Virginia and a cement mason by trade. He is survived by three sons:
Lewis, Robert and Harry, all of Clarksburg, W. Va.; three daughters:
Mrs. Dorothy Holliday, Clarksburg, W. Va.; Mrs. Evelyn Kirk, Rockton;
and Mrs. Eleanor Stull, Kenmore, N.Y. He also leaves 30 grandchildren
and 14 great grandchildren. Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by his
parents, four brothers, and his wife, the former Virgie Lewis who died

Crash Kills Former Countian
Irvona - Jonathan Derle Barto of Niagara Falls, N.Y.,
died as the result of an automobile accident there yesterday. Mr. Barto
was the brother of the Rev. M. R. Barto of LaJose RD and George Barto of
Coalport. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the
Hunter-Lloyd Funeral Home at Irvona. Friends will be received in the
funeral home at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Interment will be in the Fairview

Westover - Funeral services for Derl Barto, 70 year old
Westover native and Niagara Falls, N.Y. resident who died there
Thursday, June 20 as the result of an automobile accident, will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Hunter-Lloyd Funeral Home at Irvona.
The Rev. Howard McIlrath will officiate and interment will be in the
Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home this afternoon
and until the hour of services tomorrow. Family members reported that
Mr. Barto apparently suffered a heart seizure while driving, causing his
car to slam into a tree. He reportedly died instantly. He was preceded
in death by his wife, the former Edna Kitchen, Feb. 19, 1963. Born at
Westover, Nov. 21, 1897, a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Syberts)
Barto, he is survived by the following step-children: Mrs. Elizabeth
White, New Washington; Irvin Westover, Westover; Ray Westover, Erie;
Mrs. Fern Weis, Erie; Mahlon, with the U.S. Army and Mrs. Jean Able,
Niagara Falls, N.Y. Two brothers, the Rev. Ross Barto of LaJose RD and
George Barto of Coalport survive as do two sisters: Mrs. Stella
Hockenberry, Coalport, and Mrs. Bruce (Violet) Roland, Niagara Falls,

Irvona - Miss Helen Louise Barto, 50, of Rahway, N.J.,
formerly of Irvona, died in her home Tuesday, Jan. 21. Miss Barto was
the daughter of Eula and the late Delbert Barto. Services will be held
Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral Home in Irvona. The
Rev. William Chamberlin will officiate. Friends will be received at the

BATTLES, OLIVE
Fort Myers, Fla. – Olive Battles, 90, of Fort Myers,
Fla., died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005. Born Sept. 3, 1914, at Irvona, she was
a daughter of the Rev. Samuel W. McGarvey and Pearl (Lindsey) McGarvey.
In 1937, she married the Rev. Robert W. Battles Sr. who died July 15,
1999. Mrs. Battles was a homemaker. She served as the pastor’s wife at
churches at Jeanette and Meadville, Ottawa, Canada, Orlando, Fla., and
the First Church of Alliance at New York City. She is survived by three
sons, Dr. Robert W. Battles Jr., and is wife, Ruth, of Pinehurst, N.C.,
Samuel Battles and his wife, Trisha, of San Carlos, Calif., Timothy
Battles and his wife, Carol, of Atlanta, Dennis Battles and his wife,
Kathy, of St. Louis and John Battles and his wife, Rose, of Sarasota,
Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to
her husband, Mrs. Battles was preceded in death by her parents. Friends
will be received at Fairview Cemetery Friday at 9:45 a.m. where a
graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Dr. Robert W. Battles Jr. will

BEALS, AMOS M.
Irvona - Amos Beals of Irvona, died at 6 a.m. today in
the Philipsburg State General Hospital. He was the husband of Mrs. Ruth
Beals. Funeral arrangements in charge of the Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral
Home, Irvona, are incomplete. They will be published later along with an
obituary.
Irvona - Amos M. Beals, 64, of Irvona, died in the
Philipsburg State General Hospital yesterday at 6 a.m. He was born in
Irvona Dec. 11, 1909, a son of Joseph and Margaret Williams Beals. His
wife, the former Ruth Piper, whom he married Aug. 17, 1936, survives, as
do four sisters and two brothers. They are Mrs. Bessie Lewis, Irvona RD;
Mrs. Vera Miles, Irvona; Mrs. Mary Spangle, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs.
Mettie Rush, Portage; James Beals, Coalport; and John Beals of New
Mexico. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Funeral
services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral
Home in Irvona. Rev. Richard Hackenberry will officiate. Interment will
follow at Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD. Friends will be received at the

BEALS, RUTH S.
Mrs. Beals, 73, of Coalport, formerly of Irvona, died at
6:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 1985, in Clearfield Hospital, after an
extended illness. Mrs. Beals retired as a secretary from the Glendale
High School on Feb. 28, 1977, after 28 years’ service. She was born
July 17, 1912, in Altoona, the daughter of Elmer S. and Sarah (Spiedle)
Piper, and married Amos M. Beals, who died April 19, 1974. Surviving are
a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister,
Edna Burkholder, who died May 8, 1985. Mrs. Beals was a graduate of
Hollidaysburg High School and Zeth Business School. She was a charter
member of the Beccaria-Coalport-Irvona Business and Professional Women’s
Club and a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Public School Employees
Association, Ladies Auxiliary to the Glendale Volunteer Fire Company and
United Methodist Church, Coalport. Friends will be received from 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Thursday in the Donald J.
Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport.

Coalport - Mrs. Fay L. Beals, 61, of Coalport died
yesterday in her home. Born Dec. 1, 1911 in Olanta, Mrs. Beals was a
daughter of Thomas and Mary (Stagner) Meckley. Her husband, James Beals
survives, as do nine children: Richard of Scotch Plains, N.J.; Mrs. Ruth
Custred of Houtzdale; Mrs. Dorothy Baum of Flinton; Mrs. Bessie Richards
of Glasgow; Robert of Phoenix, Ariz.; Harold of Fallentimber; Clifford
of Coalport; David of Roselle, N.J.; and Leroy of Ansonville. Also
surviving are 27 grandchildren and five brothers and sisters: Glenn of
San Francisco; James of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Mrs. Gladys McMasters of
Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Mrs. Betty Karns of Eugene, Ore.; and Mrs. Helen
Flood of Niagara Falls, N.Y. In addition, her stepmother, Mrs. Mary
Meckley survives. Mrs. Beals was preceded in death by her parents and a
daughter, Marcella. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at

BECK, KENNETH L.
Canton, Ohio - Kenneth L. Beck, 73, of Canton, Ohio,
died Saturday at the Stark County Memorial Hospital, Lewisville, Ohio.
His wife was the late Anna Belle Potts of Westover, Pa. The couple also
formerly resided in Pittsburgh. He was born in Vandergrift, Pa., March
9, 1904. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is
survived by several step-children and a number of nieces and nephews. In
addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one
brother. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the
Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona, Pa. The Rev. Herman Van Schooten

Lajose – Mrs. Anna M. Berger, 61, of Lajose RD, died
at 1:08 a.m., Sunday, July 14 (1988), in the Altoona Hospital. Born Jan.
25, 1927, in Johnstown, the daughter of Irvin Sr. and Edna (Cochran)
Feaster, she wed Howard Berger, who preceded her in death in May 1966.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and sons Dennis and Ray.
Survivors include children Bobby of Cleveland, Tenn., Mrs. Ann Keith of
Coalport RD, and Mrs. Donna Pellicer of Lake City, Fla.; brother and
sisters, Irvin Feaster Jr. of Lajose RD, Jane Reeger of Irvona, Nancy
Brown of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Stella Klock of Morgan City, La., and
eight grandchildren. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and
2-4 and 7-9 p.m. tomorrow at the Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona,
where services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Edwin

Ray Gene Berger, 23, of LaJose RD, died early Sunday
morning in a head-on traffic collision on Route 53 near Coalport. Mr.
Berger was born Sept. 15, 1950 at LaJose RD, a son of Ann Feaster
Berger. He is survived by his wife, the former Linda Slovikosky; two
sons, Ray and Allen at home; his mother of LaJose RD; and his
grandmother, Edna Feaster of New York. Also surviving are these brothers
and sisters: Denny of LaJose, Bobby of DuBois, Mrs. Russ (Ann) Keith of
Coalport and Donna at home. Mr. Berger was a member of the United Mine
Workers Union. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the
John J. Greinader Funeral Home at Coalport with the Rev. J. Richard

BICKFORD, CHALMER
Irvona - Chalmer D. Bickford, 82, of Berwinsdale, Irvona
R.D., died Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11:07 a.m. at Philipsburg State
General Hospital. Born in Berwinsdale May 27, 1906, he was the son of
the late William P. and Ella (Witherite) Bickford. On Feb. 21, 1934, in
Blain City, he married Edna Miles, who survives along with two
daughters, John Kennedy of Irvona R.D. and Mrs. Lynn (Patsy) Adam, of
Coalport; two grandsons, Jeffrey Kennedy of Irvona and Evan Belin of
Coalport; one grandson, Shawn Kennedy; and one brother Raymond Witherite
of New Fame, N.Y. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two
sisters. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America for 35
years and retired from PennDOT in 1971. Services will be held Tuesday at
11 a.m. at the Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona, with the Rev. James Clinton
officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, LaJose. Friends
will be received at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
BICKFORD, EDNA M.
Irvona – Edna M. Bickford, 87, of Irvona died
Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Altoona Hospital. Born Jan. 9, 1915, in
Irvona, she was a daughter of Charles P. and Maude E. (Stephens) Miles.
Mrs. Bickford was employed at McGregors Clothing and also worked in the
Berwinsdale Post Office. She was a member of the former Berwinsdale
Presbyterian Church. She was married to Chalmer Bickford, who died Sept.
17, 1988. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Kennedy of Irvona and
Patsy Adam of Coalport; two grandchildren, Jeff Kennedy and his wife,
Kathy, of Irvona and Evan Belin and his wife, Janice, of Pennington,
N.J.; two great-grandchildren and Charlie Witherite, whom she raised.
Mrs. Bickford was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two
sisters; a brother and twin infant siblings. Services will be held at 2
p.m. Saturday at Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home, Inc., Irvona, with Rev.
Howard Swan officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, LaJose
RD. Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. tonight and from noon to 2
p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Flinton - Mrs. Catherine Black died at the home of her
son, Clair, here at 11:20 p.m. Friday, March 4. A daughter of Anson and
Mary Ann Williams, the deceased is survived by the following children:
L.O. Black, Clair, Mrs. Bessie Kutruff and Mrs. Myrtle Dixon, all of
Flinton; William, Fallentimber; Ralph, Coalport; Roy, Buffalo; Knappy,

Mrs. Mary Fleck, Ernest; Mrs. Pearl Mullen and Mrs. Lucinda Lanich, all

Funeral for Clair L. Black
Services for Clair L. Black, 66, of Rosebud, Coalport
RD, who died Monday, Nov. 30 of an apparent heart attack while hunting
in Lyleville, Coalport RD, were held Thursday December 3 at the Lloyd
Funeral Home, Irvona. The Rev. Dan Leplogle officiated, assisted by the
Rev. Melvin Dixon. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD. He as
born in Flinton RD March 15, 1915, the son of Joshua T. and Catherine
(Williams) Black. He was married to the former Wanda Witherson, who
survives with these children: Mrs. Janice Walker of Clearfield, Miss
Patricia Ann Black of Upper Darby, Clair T. of Coalport RD; Mrs. Mary C.
Nevling of New Millport, Miss Donna Mae Black of Phoenix, Ariz., David
L., at home and Jack Witherson of Baltimore, Md. He was the last of his
immediate family. Mr. Black was a retired kiln fireman for Swank
Refractories Co. Irvona, with 28 years experience. He was a member of
the Oak Ridge Union Church.

Irvona - Ralph Black, 77, of 805 Lexington Ave.,
Altoona, died in the Altoona Hospital Tuesday at 9:10 p.m. He was a
former resident of Irvona. Mr. Black was born in Westover Sept. 5, 1896,
a son of Thomas and Catherine (Williams) Black. Surviving are his wife,
the former Frances Clark; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Giles of Irvona; two
sons, Mahlon, Amhurst, Ohio, and Kenneth, Carson City, Nev.; four
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four
brothers and two sisters: William Black, Fallentimber; Clair Black,
Coalport; Chester Black, Buffalo, Ind.; Robert Black, Buffalo, N.Y.;
Mrs. Myrtle Dixon, Altoona; and Mrs. Lucinda Lanich, Clearfield. He was
preceded in death by his first wife, the former Augusta Grabosky, in
1948; his second wife, the former Catherine Reilly, in 1960; one
daughter, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be
held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral Home in Irvona
with the Rev. Richard Hackenberry officiating. Interment will follow in

at the Coalport Christian and Missionary Alliance Church for Helen
Bloom, 87, of Coalport who died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 1996, at her
residence. The Rev. Mark Koser and Rev. Joseph Burchill will officiate.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD. Friends will be
received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home
Inc., Irvona, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday at
the church. Born July 2, 1909, in Coalport, she was a daughter of Harry
and Loy (Smith) Killion. Mrs. Bloom was a 55 year member of the
Christian and Missionary Alliance Church where she served as Sunday
school teacher, deaconess and recording secretary for the church. She is
survived by two children, Mary Lee Goff of Orlando, Fla., and Larry
Bloom of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two
sisters, Mrs. Steve (Jessie) Gordon of Long Island, N.Y., and Mrs.
Robert (Laura) Burchill of Coalport RD. On April 12, 1934, in Coalport,
she married Lloyd Bloom, who preceded her in death Nov. 29, 1964. In
addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Bloom was preceded in
death by a daughter, Shirley Koser; three sisters Elva Diehl, Edna
Sinclair and Gladys Boulton; and three brothers, Lawrence, Hershal and
Mervin Killion.

Coalport - James Bloom, 60, of Coalport, died in Miner's
Hospital, Spangler at 7:50 a.m. yesterday. He was born in Boardman May
28, 1914, a son of Orel and Mary (Page) Bloom. He was married to the
former Lorraine Sinclair who survives with two daughters: Mrs. Linda
Myers, Altoona and Mrs. Trudy Ivory, Manassas, Va. Two grandchildren
also survive as does a brother Andrew Bloom of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the Wendell W.
Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona. The Rev. Harry Skilton will officiate and
interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, LaJose. Friends may call in the

BLOOM, LLOYD
Coalport - Lloyd Bloom, 54, of Coalport died in the
Philipsburg State General Hospital yesterday at 5:55 a.m. Born at
Kellytown July 17, 1910, he was a son of Oral and Mary (Paige) Bloom of
Coalport. He was a member of the Coalport Christian and Missionary
Alliance Church. Formerly employed as a mine foreman for the Peale,
Peacock and Kerr Coal Co., the Imperial Coal Co., and a partner in the
Allmans Coal Co. Mr. Bloom owned and operated Bloom's Barber Shop at
Coalport at the time of his death. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bloom
is survived by his wife, the former Helen Killion, one daughter, Mrs.
Lee Goff of Mansfield, Ohio, one son, Larry Lloyd, at home; five
grandchildren; and three brothers, Joseph of Reading, James of Coalport
and Andrew of Oklahoma City, Okla. One daughter, Shirley, preceded Mr.
Bloom in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
from the Coalport Christian and Missionary Alliance Church with the Rev.
Edward Murry officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery,

Lloyd Bloom of Coalport, died at 5:55 a.m. yesterday at
the Philipsburg Hospital. He was born in Kellytown, Pa., July 17, 1910,
a son of Oral and Mary (Paige) Bloom and married Helen Killion.
Surviving are his wife, two children, Mrs. Lee Goff of Mansfield, Ohio,
and Larry L., at home; five grandchildren, his parents, in Coalport, and
three brothers, Joseph of Reading, James of Coalport and Andrew of
Oklahoma City, Okla. He was a member of the Coalport Christian and
Missionary Alliance Church, operated his own barbershop in Coalport and
earlier served as a mine foreman. Friends are being received in the
Hunter-Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona.

Mrs. Gladys L. Boulton, 81, Houtzdale, died Aug. 11,
1995, at the Mt. Laurel Nursing Home, Clearfield. She was born Dec. 17,
1913, in Chest Township, the daughter of late Harry and Loy (Smith)
Killion. She married Robert V. Boulton on June 12, 1940. He preceded her
in death on July 1, 1984. Surviving are a son, Robert W., Houtzdale;
three sisters, Helen Bloom, Coalport, Jessie Gordon, Long Island, N.Y.,
and Laura Burchill, Coalport RD, and two grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by a daughter, sister and three brothers. Mrs. Boulton was a
member of Houtzdale Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker. Funeral
services was held Aug. 14 at Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc., Irvona, by

BRATTON, RONALD
Mr. Bratton, 77, of Irvona died at 5 a.m. Wednesday,
July 20, 1983, in Altoona Hospital, after an extended illness. Mr.
Bratton retired from Swank Refractories, Irvona, in 1970, after 42 years’
service. He was born March 6, 1906, in Irvona, the son of Edith Bratton,
and married Roberta McGarvey. Surviving are two sons: Ronald L. in Ohio
and Harold W. of Houtzdale, five stepchildren: James R. Rea of of
Turnersville, N.J.; Janet L. Keith, Ruth Ann McCulley and R. Michael Rea
of Irvona, Sandy L. Rowles of LaJose; 19 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Mr. Bratton was a member of the United Presbyterian
Church, Irvona, and Frohsinn Singing Society. Friends will be received
from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona.

BRETZIN, IRVIN E.
Irvona - Irvin E. Bretzin, 55, of Irvona died in the
Altoona Hospital Monday at 5:15 p.m. after a long illness. Born at
Irvona Jan. 10, 1909, he was a son of Irvin and Susan (Cavaner) Bretzin.
A lifelong resident of Irvona, he was employed by the Hiram Swank and
Sons Refractories, Irvona, most of his life. Surviving are his wife, the
former Pearl Hockenberry; a stepdaughter, Hazel, at home; one brother,
Robert, Akron, Ohio; and one sister, Mrs. Clara Rainey, Madera. Funeral
services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the Hunter-Lloyd Funeral
Home, Irvona, with the Rev. Howard McIlrath of the Irvona Christian and
Missionary Alliance Church officiaitng. Interment will follow in the
Fairview Cemetery at LaJose RD. Friends are being received at the

Irvona - The funeral for Mrs. Pearl Bretzin, 74, of
Irvona, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Wendell W. Lloyd

Mrs. Bretzin died Sunday, Jan. 18, at 8:30 p.m. in the Philipsburg State
General Hospital. She was born in Westover RD June 6, 1901, a daughter
of George and Rosalie (Lindsey) Hockenberry. She is survived by a
daughter, Hazel, at home. Her husband, Irvin, preceded her in death

Mrs. Ada B. Brink, 81, Ridgeview Elder Care
Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville, formerly LaJose RD, died Tuesday,
April 2, 2002, at Clearfield Hospital. Born Aug. 29, 1920, in LaJose,
daughter of John and Anna (Snyder) Baker. Husband, Howard, died Jan. 27,
1979. Survived by children: Bert, LouAnn Monariti and Margie Reeger;

Mr. Brink, 81, of Irvona RD, died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday,
Feb. 17, 1983, in his home, after an extended illness. Mr. Brink was a
retired farmer. He was born Jan. 15, 1902, in Irvona, the son of James
W. and Amanda (Hockenberry) Brink, and was twice married, first to
Florence Holes, who died Sept. 13, 1972, then April 2, 1975, to Mary
Bowden. Surviving are his wife and 11 children: Carl G., Raymond, LeFoy
and Conrad of Irvona RD, Mrs. Alma Tingle of Rockton, Mrs. Isabelle
Snyder of LaJose, Mrs. Joy Eckhoff of Rocky River, Ohio, Mrs. Naomi

Jean Lethem of Anaheim, Calif., and Mrs. Betty Marcase of Elrama; a
stepdaughter, Mrs. Eva Bard of Elizabethtown; 57 grandchildren; 68
great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. Friends will be

Irvona - Mrs. Florence Brink, 71, wife of Ashley Brink
of Irvona R. D., died at her home at 3 a.m. Tuesday. Born in Chest
Township, June 26, 1901, she was a daughter of George and Jennie
(Ritchey) Holes. In addition to her husband, these sons and daughters
survive: Mrs. Marian Frailey, Carl, Raymond, Leroy, Irvona R. D.; Mrs.
Alma Tingle, Rockton,; Mrs. Isabelle Hoover, LaJose; Mrs. Joy Eckhoff,
Lakewood, Ohio’ Mrs. Naomi McClelland, Glasgow; Conrad, LaJose R. D.;
Mrs. Helen Johns, Parma, Ohio; Mrs. Emma Jean Kendall, Placentia,
Calif., and Mrs. Betty Conley, Pittsburgh. Fifty-nine grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren survive as do these brothers and sisters:
Fordyce Holes, Hubbard, Ohio; Merle, Harry and Walter Holes, LaJose R.
D.; William, Irvona R. D; Arthur, Philipsburg; Alden, Brooklyn N.Y.;

preceded her in death. She was a member of the McPherron C&MA Church

Kenneth R. Brink, 56, Expires
Kenneth R. Brink, 56, Irvona RD, died Monday, Sept. 25,
1995, at 9:10 p.m., at the Clearfield Hospital. He was born June 17,
1939, in Thompsontown, the son of Lawrence and Bernice (Houser) Brink.
Surviving are his wife, Belva McDonald, whom he married May 15, 1977;
three daughters: Ruth Stevens, Fallentimber; Brenda Brink and Mindy
Brink, Irvona; son, Michael Brink, Johnstown; stepson Wade Kaar,
Reynoldsville; three grandchildren: three step-grandchildren; a sister,
Lois Bates, LaJose RD; three brothers: Dale Brink, Brookville; Ray
Brink, Curwensville; Jack Brink, Madera. He was preceded in death by his
parents; a daughter, Linda K. Brink; and two brothers: Dorsey and Dick.
Mr. Brink was employed as a truck driver. Funeral service was held Sept.
28 at Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc., Irvona, by Rev. Timothy Spencer.

Mr. Brink, 81, of LaJose RD, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday,
Jan. 3, 1987, in Philipsburg Hospital, following an extended illness.
Mr. Brink retired as a coal miner from Benjamin Coal Co., LaJose, after
45 years’ service. He was born Feb. 13, 1905, in Irvona, the son of
Josiah and Lucy (McGarvey) Brink, and April 10, 1925, in LaJose, married
Bernice Houser. Surviving are his wife and six children: Dorsey of
Salem, Ohio; Dale of Brookville; Jack of Madera; Kenneth of Irvona RD
and Ray and Lois Bates of LaJose RD; 23 grandchildren and 21
great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Walter B. of Elyria,
Ohio. Mr. Brink was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. He was also
a member of the Susquehanna Rod and Gun Club and the United Mine Workers

Mr. Brink, 24, of Madera died Wednesday, Nov. 28,
1984, in Philipsburg General Hospital, Philipsburg. Mrs. Brink was
employed at Valley View Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 12, 1960, in Rush
Township, the son of Jack and Carol Dene (Swartz) Brink. Surviving are
his parents, of Madera, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Brink of

Madera United Methodist Church. He was a 1978 graduate of Moshannon

Edna Caskey of Coalport, died unexpectedly Tuesday
evening, Feb. 10, 1970. She was born in Chest Twp., March 5, 1902, a
daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Michael) Johns, and married Harold
Caskey in 1920. Surviving are her husband, six children: Jack, Mrs. Mary
Kay Davis and Mrs. Linda Hegarty of Coalport, Mrs. Donna Jane Black of
Amherst, Ohio, William of Columbia, Mo., and Mrs. Nancy Lesher of
Rochester, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three
sisters: Mrs. Mayme Boone of Blairsville, Mrs. Christine Hommer of
Clarksboro, N.J., and Mrs. Myrtle McCollough of Rimersburg. Mrs. Caskey
was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Coalport. Friends

CASKEY, JACK
Jack M. Caskey, 73, Blain City, Coalport RD, died
Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1996, at Altoona Hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1922,
in Blain City, the son of the late Harold and Edna (Johns) Caskey. He
married Jean Brady. She died Feb. 22, 1996. Mr. Caskey was a member of
St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, Coalport. He retired from PennDOT
in 1986, after 17 years of service. Prior to that, he worked in several
area coal mines. Mr. Caskey was a Navy veteran of World War II and a
member of the Coalport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Surviving are a
daughter, Sharon Kizina of Philpsburg; three sisters: Mary Kay Davis of
Blain City, Linda Hegarty of Coalport and Nancy Lesher of Pittsburgh; a
brother, William of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and a grandson. There will be

CHARLTON, WILLIAM HENRY
William Henry Charlton died Thursday morning at the home
of his granddaughter, Mrs. Maurice McGarvey of Irvona, death resulting
from pneumonia. He was aged 75 years 4 months and 29 days at the time of
his death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Anabelle Beck of
Pittsburgh, Mrs. Roxie Stevens of Clearfield and one son Edward of
Marstellar, Pa. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon in
the Irvona Christian and Missionary Alliance church with the pastor,
Rev, C. A. Davis officiating. Burial was made in the McPherron Cemetery

Irvona - Mrs. Arlene (Lewis) Clem, 56, of 5200 Palisade
Ave., West New York, N.J., died unexpectedly in her home Monday. Born at
Gazzam July 9, 1907, she was a daughter of Thomas S. and Gertrude
(Woods) Lewis. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Gertrude Lewis of
Berwinsdale; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Winfield
(Lorraine) Pearce of Berwinsdale, Frank Lewis of Hollidaysburg, Wilford
Lewis of Haverstraw, N.Y., Mrs. Earl (Helen) Shanaman of Dexter City,
Ohio and Woods Lewis of Buffalo, N.Y. Several nieces and enphews also
survive. Mrs. Clem was preceded in death by her husband last November.

William M. "Rip" Collins, 82, Irvona, died
Oct. 11, 2000, at his residence. Born May 9, 1918, in Madera, son of the
late john and Sara (Pepperday) Collins. He had been employed as a
laborer at Swank Refractories, Irvona. Mr. Collins was an honorable life
member of Irvona Vol. Fire Co. and Ambulance Assn., serving as chief
several years; life member of Clearfield County Fireman’s Assn.,
served as mayor of Irvona several terms, was former member of United
Brick and Clay Workers Union, and served community as Civil Defense (now
EMA) director. Survived by two sons: William E. and Terry L.; four
daughters; Norma Jean Dudurich, Doris May McClellan, Marlene Peacock and
Beverly Chase; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty
Basinger; brother, Tom Collins. Preceded in death by wife, Dorothy (Dotts),
Dec. 30, 1997; son, Leon; grandson, Donald Dudurich; sisters, Dorothy
McGarvey, Annabelle Shoemack, Evelyn Tennis; brothers, James and John.

Mrs. Conley, 70, of LaJose RD, died at 12:05 a.m.
Sunday, Nov. 29, 1992, at the home of her daughter in Hollidaysburg. She
was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Irvona, the daughter of Sherman and Mary (McGarvey)
Westover. She married Harold Conley on Dec. 13, 1939, in Irvona.
Surviving are her husband, 10 children: Carolyn of Newry, Ronald of
Duncansville, Joseph of Imler, Judith Wolfe of Hollidaysburg, Debra and
Cathy of Martinsburg, David and Dennis of Loysburg and Karen Dixon of
Roaring Spring, 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also
surviving are four brothers and sisters: Glenn of Canton, Ohio, the Rev.
Carl of Greenville, Velma Kitchen of Camp Bell, N.Y., and Gladys Bell of
Berkely, W.Va. Mrs. Conley was a member of Ore Hill Sunday School.

Mrs. Esther Corson, 76, Rosebud, Coalport RD, died Dec.
15, 1995, at the Altoona Hospital, following and extended illness. She
was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Summerhill, the daughter of late James and
Mabel (Fye) Kunselman. She married Rudolph Eugene Corson. He died Feb.
18, 1968. Surviving are two daughter: Jane Potochniak, New Florence, and
Debra Dick, Rosebud; six sons: Melvin, Madera, Gary, Lancaster, Richard,
Coalport RD, Raymond, Altoona, Donald, Coalport and Terry, Irvona. She
was a sister of Elvira Anderson, Force, Pa. Also surviving are 15
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
CORSON, EUGENE
LaJose - A funeral service for Eugene Corson of LaJose
RD will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Hunter-Lloyd funeral Home at
Irvona. Mr. Corson, 52, was found dead in his car, Saturday Feb. 24,
evidently stricken while enroute home from work. He was born Aug. 13,
1915, at Westover, a son of David and Margaret (Woodford) Corson. Mr.
Corson is survived by his wife, the former Esther Kunselman, and these
children: Mrs. Donald Potochniak, Arlington, Va.; Melvin, Gary, Richard,
Debra, Raymond, Donald and Terry, all at home; and Charles E., state of
Ohio. One grandchild also survives as do brothers, Claude and Harry,
Westover, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Peel, Phoenixville. Three sisters and
two brothers preceded him in death. The family will receive friends in
the funeral home after 7 p.m. tomorrow and until the hour of service

Utahville, Coalport RD, who died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Altoona
Hospital. Rev. Thomas McGill will officiate. Interment will be at

p.m. today and from 1 p.m. until the time of the services tomorrow at
the funeral home. Born Oct. 7, 1910, in Glasgow, he was a son of William
and Mary "Roxie" (Mulhollen) Cree. Mr. Cree worked in area
coal mines for 45 years and retired from Rushton Mines in Philipsburg in
1972. He was a 75 year member of the United Mine Workers Association,
and a former member of the EUB Church, Glasgow. Mr. Cree is survived by
his wife, the former Twila Smith, whom he wed on Oct. 22, 1938, in West
Decatur; three children, Mary Ann Lender and her husband, Vern, of
Mayfield Heights, Ohio; Patty Morrison and her husband, Gordon, of
Norton, Ohio; and C. Eugene and his wife, the former Bonnie Black, of
Coalport RD; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Cree was
the last of his immediate family, being preceded in death by his parents
and brothers, Elwood "Tim" and twins, Don and Dean.

Coalport - Twila R. Cree, 92, of Utahville, Coalport RD,
died Friday, April 7, 2006, at Altoona Regional Health System Bon
Secours Campus. Born Aug. 24, 1913, at Blain City, she was a daughter of
William and Mary (Renninger) Smith. She is survived by three children:
Mary Ann Lender of Mayfield Heights, Ohio; Patty Morrison and her
husband, Gordon, of Norton, Ohio; and C. Eugene and his wife, the former
Bonnie Black of Coalport RD; nine grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cree was the last of her immediate family. She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence, on Jan. 21,
2002; a son-in-law, Vern Lender; four sisters: Dorothy Sinclair, Mary
Collier, Mabel Nelson and Grace Fredericks; and a brother, Charles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Gibbons Funeral Home,
Coalport, with the Rev. Thomas McGill officiating. Committal will be at

Berwinsdale – Catherine Davis, 80, of Berwinsdale,
died at her home Thursday morning, October 2, at 9 o’clock. Surviving
her is her husband, William H. Davis, and the following children: Mrs.
Betty Timble, Mahaffey; George Davis, Manor Hill; Mrs. Grace Fleming,
Flinton; Junod Davis, Dienna, Va.; Mrs. Effie Swan of Berwinsdale. Among
other survivors are one brother, Alvin Junod of Kerrmoor, 37
grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Effie Swan in Berwinsdale Sunday,
October 5, at 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends

William H. Davis Claimed by Death Christmas Eve
William H. Davis died at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
John Swan, in Berwinsdale, Pa. on December 24, at 1:20 p.m. of a heart
attack. He was born in Glasgow on December 31, 1864, a son of the late
George L. and Mary Davis, and was married to Catherine Junod, who
preceded him in death October, 1947. A son, Edgar, died in 1924. He was

Junod Davis of Vienna, Pa.; Mrs. Effie Swan, of Berwinsdale; and 24

of Glasgow and Edward of Juniata, and three sisters, Mrs. Laura
Peterson, of Glasgow; Mrs. Bertha Gray of Annamosa, Iowa, and Mrs.
Aurelia Cowen of New Kensington. Funeral services were held at the Swan
residence on December 27 by Rev. Hettinger. Burial was in Fairview

Irvona - Mrs. Alice Diehl, 70, wife of Allen Diehl of
Nyack, N.Y., formerly of Irvona, died Sunday in her home. Mrs. Diehl was
born in Irvona April 3, 1903, a daughter of Silas and Lucy (McGarvey)
Brink. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Verner
of Seattle, Wash.; Allen of Blauvelt, N.Y.; Mrs. Elaine Mann of
Blauvelt, N.Y.; Mrs. Norma Fredrick of West Nyack, N.Y.; Mrs. Doris
Cassano of High Falls, N.Y.; and Jane of Nyack, N.Y. Also surviving are
19 grandchildren, one great-grandson and seven brothers: Stuart of
Irvona; Howard J. and Lawrence of LaJose RD; Luther of St. Marys; Walter
of Elyria, Ohio; Woodrow of Fairlawn, N.J.; and Ira of Campabella, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and sisters.

Funeral Home, Irvona. Dr. C. Donald McKaig will officiate assisted by
the Rev. Herman VanSchooten. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery,

Lajose RD – Catherine M. Diehl, 72, of Chest Township,
Lajose RD, died Tuesday, morning Feb. 16 (1988), at Altoona Hospital.
Born Feb. 19, 1915, in Chest Township, she was the daughter of the late
George and Mary (Ritchie) Holes. She married Walter W. Diehl Aug. 23,
1937, who survives with these children; Mrs. Clifford (Delores)
Hockenberry of New Millport RD, John C. and Robert A., both at home,
Mrs. David (Edith June) Braggal of Altoona, Samuel of Curwensville RD
and Timothy of Van Ormer; four grandchildren; three brothers, Harry of
Lajose, Arthur of Dubois, and William of Irvona. Mrs. Diehl was a member
of the Calvary Chapel. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the
T. G. McCracken Funeral Home in Mahaffey with the Rev. Arthur Hugill
officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Lajose RD.

Chester C. Diehl, 48, of 709 Dorey St., Clearfield, died
Thursday at 1:20 p.m. in the Clearfield Hospital following an extended
illness. The son of John C. and Margaret (Miles) Diehl, he was born
March 20, 1911, in Chest Township, Clearfield County. He was married to
the former Dorothea Sarah Strong, Sept. 7, 1931. Two daughters, Mrs.
Beverly Rafferty, Erie; Mrs. Donna Lumadue, Clearfield; and one
grandson, Michael Rafferty, also of Erie survive. Mr. Diehl was a member
of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America 1146 and had been
employed by the New York Central Railroad since 1942. He also leaves the
following brothers and sisters: Melvin, Hillsboro, Ore.; Robert, Denver,
Colo.; Ward, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Elizabeth Junod, Kerrmoor; Mrs. Jane
Lewis, Altoona; and Mrs. Vida Houser, LaJose RD. His parents and four
brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at the
Fairview Baptist Church, LaJose RD, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev.
Howard Swan officiating. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.

Curwensville – Daisey E. Diehl, 87, of Curwensville
and formerly of LaJose, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Marion Manor
II. Born Aug. 26, 1918, at Big Run, she was a daughter of Thomas Russell
and Grace Neil. She was a member of Faiview Baptist Church. Mrs. Diehl
was a homemaker. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs.
Diehl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ivin Bill Diehl;
an infant daughter; two brothers, Thomas and Boyde; and two sisters,
Hildred Bruddenhagen and Wilda Bell. Services will be held at 2 p.m.

Irvona – Delbert "Duke" Diehl, 92, a
resident of Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center,
Curwensville, and formerly of Irvona, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at
Clearfield Hospital. Born Sept. 16, 1913, at Irvona, he was a son of
Harry E. and Ella (Brink) Diehl. Mr. Diehl was a member of the Irvona
Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He was also a member of the
AFL-CIO and National Rifle Association. He worked for Pennsylvania
Railroad, Juniata, for 30 years and retired in 1966 and served as
policeman in Irvona for 15 years. Mr. Diehl is survived by his wife, the
former Ruth Palmer, who he wed Feb. 15, 1932, at Coalport. He is also
survived by five children, Alice Kutruff and Ruth Stevens, both of
Irvona, Florence Adam and her husband, Lance, of Punxsutawney, Rose
Green of Clearfield, and Diana Diehl of Provo, Utah; two
daughters-in-law, Barbara (Bryan) Diehl of Irvona and Francisca Diehl of
San Francisco; 26 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two
sons, Harry and Delbert Jr.; two grandsons, Bernard Diehl and Clinton
Stewart Jr.; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Florence Moyer, and a
brother, Emerson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at
Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport, with the Rev. Paul Jacobson officiating.

Barney Diehl, 73, Coalport, Dies
Francis L. (Barney) Diehl Sr., 73, Coalport, died
Sunday, Dec. 4, 1994, at Altoona Hospital. He was born Sept. 5, 1921, in
Westover, the son of Willis and Cynthia (Eagler) Diehl. He married
Louise Flanagan on Oct. 8, 1951. Mr. Diehl was a member of St. Basil’s
Catholic Church, Coalport. He retired as a heavy equipment operator from
C&K Coal Co. Mr. Diehl was an Army veteran of World War II, serving
in the European theater, and received four Bronze Star medals. He was a
member of Coalport VFW, Knight of Columbus, Patton American Legion and
the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union. Surviving are
his wife; a son, Francis L. Jr. of Bellwood; four sisters; Gladys Russo
and Dorothy Russo, both of Jacksonville, N.C., and Meriam Tedesco and
Elizabeth Berard, both of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and a grandson. Also
surviving are a daughter-in-law, Robin, and grandson, Clayton. He was
preceded in death by a brother, James. Mass of Christian Burial was held
Wed., Dec. 7, at St. Basil’s Catholic Church, Coalport, by the Rev.
Alex Amico. Interment followed at Fairview Baptist Cemetery, LaJose R.D.

Mr. Diehl, 82, of Glen Hope died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday,
April 16, 1987, at his home, following an extended illness. Mr. Diehl
retired as a coal miner. He was born Nov. 11, 1904, in Chest Township,
the son of Blair and Alice (McCulley) Diehl, and Aug. 10, 1926, married
Elva Killion, who died Jan. 30, 1981. Surviving are four children:
Norman G. of Glen Hope, Beatrice Wallace and JoAnne Ginter of Coalport
RD and Ada May Flango of Ramey; 18 grandchildren and 22
great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and sister: Bertha
Sackett of Altoona and Gilbert of Glen Hope. Mr. Diehl attended the Glen
Hope United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Glen Hope
Volunteer Fire Company and served on the Glen Hope Borough Council.

Mr. Diehl, 47, of Irvona died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June
20, 1984, in Philipsburg State General Hospital, after a brief illness.
Mr. Diehl was employed as a truck driver for Benjamin Coal Co. He was
born Nov. 24, 1936, in Irvona, the son of Delbert and Ruth (Palmer)
Diehl, and married Barbara Keith. Surviving are his wife, eight
children: Donna Warner, Ronald and Edward of Coalport; Bernard,
Christine, and Rose of Irvona; Elaine Shaw of Curwensville and Mary
Glass of Glen Hope, and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are his parents

Harry Edmond Diehl of Irvona, died at 1:30 o’clock
yesterday afternoon at the Warren State hospital. Mr. Diehl was born
Jan. 23, 1878, at Irvona, and had worked for 30 years for Swank
Refractories, Irvona. His wife, the former Ella Brink, preceded him in
death. Surviving are three children, Mrs. Florence Moyer and Delbert of
Irvona and Emerson of Newport News, Va., and two brothers, Frank of
Flinton and Fred of LaJose. Friends will be received at the home of his
son, Delbert, after 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.
DIEHL, HOMER C.
Homer C. Diehl, 91, Glendale Valley Boulevard, Flinton,
died Friday evening, Sept. 13, 1996, in the Altoona Hospital emergency
department following a vehicle accident on Beaver Valley Road, Flinton.
He was born June 28, 1905, the son of the late Frank Jack and Martha
Alice (Knepper) Diehl. He married Roxie Glass Oct. 15, 1930. Mr. Diehl
attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Coalport, for 28
years. Mr. Diehl was a 1923 graduate of Beccaria Township High School.
He was a member of the Coalport Moose and United Mine Workers of
America. Mr. Diehl enjoyed family and friends, gardening, fishing, trips
to Florida and reminiscing. Surviving are his wife, three daughters:
Phyllis Koch of Allentown, Donna M. Blair of Pittsburgh, and Linda K.
Warner of Flinton; two sons, Ernest V. of Lewistown and Henry C. of
Center Valley; two sisters, Anna Knotts of Rosebud and Nora Snedden of
Coalport; a brother, Lawrence of Coalport; 19 grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sylvia Sweet, preceded him in death.

Ida Alice Diehl of Irvona, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday,
July 3, 1970, in Philipsburg Hospital. She was born at Marron,
Clearfield County, Dec. 1, 1885, a daughter of George and Cornelia (Witherite)
McCully, and on Oct. 30, 1903, married Blair W. Diehl, who died Jan. 25,
1947. Surviving are three children, Guy of Glen Hope, Mrs. Bertha
Sackett of Altoona and Gilbert of Irvona; eight grandchildren, and 26
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Diehl was a member of the Glen Hope United
Methodist Church, with a 13-year perfect Sunday School attendance.
Interment was made today.

Care and Rehabilitation, Curwensville, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at
Clearfield Hospital. Born June 13, 1941, in Thompsontown, he was a son

sisters, Deloris Hockenberry and her husband, Clifford, of New Millport
and Edith June Brozgal of Altoona; two brothers, Sam Diehl and wife
Carol, of Curwensville and Timothy Diehl and his wife, Ronda, of Van
Ormer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his

27, 1928, in Irvona, married Gilbert G. Diehl. Surviving are her
husband, two children: Norma Kitko of Glen Hope and Richard of

surviving is a sister, Jean Shultz of Altoona. Mrs. Diehl was a member
of the Glen Hope Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Glen

she was a daughter of Harry A. and Emma (Hollen) Glass. Mrs. Diehl was a

Mrs. Dixon, 70, of 319 W. 16th St., Tyrone, died
unexpectedly at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1987, at her home. Mrs.
Dixon was employed as a sewing machine operator for the Big Yank Corp.,
Tyrone, for several years. She was born June 26, 1916, in Irvona, the
daughter of Bradley and Elizabeth (McMasters) McGarvey, and Feb. 12,
1938, in Tyrone, married Albert R. Dixon, who died Nov. 1, 1977.
Surviving are four sons: Bradley E. McGarvey of Altoona; Harry E. Dixon
of New Orleans, La., and William Dixon and Albert R. Dixon Jr. of
Tyrone; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving

Michael J. Eagler Expires
Michael J. Eagler, 68, of Coalport, died Nov. 8 in the
Philipsburg State General Hospital. He was born at LaJose Aug. 15, 1905,
a son of James and Merril (Pennington) Eagler. Mr. Eagler is survived by
the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Willvine Lanse, Altoona;
Charles and Mrs. George (Vada) Spangle, both of Rosebud, R.D.; Russell,
Lockport, N.Y. and Mrs. Ron (Helen) Shoff, Madera. He was preceded in
death by his parents and three sisters. Funeral services were held in
the John J. Greinader Funeral Home, Coalport, on Tuesday with the Rev.
Dennis Sproul officiating. Interment followed in the Fairview Baptist
Church, LaJose R.D.
Coalport - Michael J. Eagler, 68, of Coalport, died last
night in the Philipsburg State General Hospital. He was born at LaJose,

EAGLER, WILLIAM EARL
Mr. Eagler, 83, of Rosebud, Coalport RD 1, died
Saturday, March 11 1989, at his home, following an extended illness. He
was born Sept 3, 1905, in Irvona RD, the son of Joseph G. and Virginia (McGarvey)
Eagler, and Nov 27, 1934, in Houtzdale, married Alberta Weakland.
Surviving are he wife, two children: Edwina Zwiener of Curwensville and
Richard Sonny of Rosebud four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters: Pat Myers of Rosebud and Emma Markley of
Lititz. Mr. Eagler was a member of the Irvona United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Donald J. Gibbons funeral home, Coalport.

Mahaffey – Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Feathers,
wife of the late Frank Feathers who died at Johnstown Aug. 16, will be
held from the Thomas R. McCracken Funeral Home, Mahaffey, Saturday at 2
p.m. The Rev. Howard Swan will officiate and burial will be in the
Fairview Cemetery at LaJose R. D. Mrs. Feathers was born in Chest
Township, Clearfield County, on Nov. 21, 1870, a daughter of the late
William and Eliza (Johnson) Eagler. She is survived by one daughter,
Mrs. Ella Belle Sylvis of Stump Creek, Pa. and one sister, Mrs. Annie
Pennington of LaJose. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Stella M.
Brink, preceded her in death. Friends will be received at the funeral

FRAILEY, HEUBER
Mr. Frailey, 63, of Berwindale, Irvona RD, died at 11:00
a.m. Thursday, Dec 6, 1984, in his home, after an extended illness. Mr.
Frailey retired as a farmer and dairyman. He was born April 5, 1921, in
Chest Township, the son of Crawford and Dora (Hazelton) Frailey, and
June 25, 1941, married Marian Brink, who died Aug 12, 1980. Surviving
are 12 children: Georgia Cox, Della Wharton, Janet Hazelton, Leo,
Barbara Graham, Dennis, Brad, Darlene Westover of Distant and Andy of
Curwensville RD and Jennie Vaux of Philipsburg, and 28 grandchildren.
Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters: Mira Jean Dean in
California, Robert of Curwensville RD, Alvetta Kearns of Coalport,
Dorthy Stivero of LaJose, Dean of Irvona RD, Donna Slingerland of
Wellsville, N.Y.; Louellea Posansky of Glen Hope, Mabel Bring of
Mahaffey and Nancy Holes of Olean, N. Y. Mr. Frailey was a member of the
McPherron Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. Friends will be
received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 3:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Lloyd

Berwinsdale – Marion Frailey, 59, of Berwinsdale, died
Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 10:10 p.m. in her home. Born July 31, 1921, in
Irvona RD, she was the daughter of Ashley and Florence (Holes) Brink.
She married Huber Frailey, who survives, on June 25, 1941. Mrs. Frailey
is also survived by her father and stepmother, Mrs. Mary Brink; six
daughters, Mrs. James (Georgie) Cox, Mrs. Donald (Della) Wharton, Mrs.
William (Janet) Hazelton and Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Graham, all of
Irvona RD, Mrs. Lyle (Darlene) Westover of Distant and Mrs. James
(Jenny) Vaux of Philipsburg; six sons, Anthony of Curwensville RD, Leo
and Dennis, both of Irvona RD, and Brad, Danny and Kerry, all at home;
four brothers, Carl G., Raymond, Leroy and Conrad, all of Irvona RD;
seven sisters, Mrs. Alma Tingle of Rockton, Mrs. Isabelle Snyder of
LaJose, Mrs. Joy Eckhoff of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Naomi McClellan of
Glasgow, Mrs. Helen Johns of Ohio, Mrs. Emma Jean Lethem of California
and Mrs. Betty Marcase of Pittsburgh; and 24 grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her mother and one sister, Geraldine. Mrs. Frailey
was a member of the McPherron Christian and Missionary Alliance Church,

FRAILEY, VIOLET M.
Mrs. Violet "Vi" Frailey, 74, Curwensville
RD2, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at home, following a brief illness.
She was born May 12, 1925, in Berwinsdale, the daughter of the late
Warren and Dove (Young) Curry. She married Robert Frailey June 29, 1946,
at Alliance Church parsonage, Irvona.Mrs. Frailey was a member of Cherry
Corner Community Church, Curwensville RD; a former member of Marron Zion
Baptist Church, Marron; Calvary Baptist Church, Niagara Falls, N.Y. for
21 years; and First Baptist Church, North Tonawanda, N.Y., for 12 years.
She had taught Sunday School at the latter two. She enjoyed oil
paintings, flowers and house decoratinog. Surviving are her husband; a
sister, Mary Belle Bakazsa of LaJose RD; and a brother, Edward of
Curwensville RD. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport, anf from 1-2
p.m. Sunday at Cherry Corner Community Church, Curwensville RD.

FREDERICK, CHARLES S.
Mr. Frederick, 72, of Irvona died at 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, April 23, 1986, in his home. Mr. Frederick retired as a brick
dresser from the former Swank Refractories, Irvona, on 1975, after 42
years’ service. He was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Ansonville, the son of
Ernest and Maude (Graham) Frederick, and Aug. 20, 1940, in Winchester.
Va., married Grace Smith. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Linda
Ballarotto of LaJose and three grandchildren. Also surviving are eight
brothers and sisters: Nellie Toner and Ellen Henry of Irvona, Lois Fry
of Media, Violet Fulton of Plymouth, Mich.; Lucy Junod and Betty Young
of Curwensville RD, James of Lavonia, Mich, and Harold of Gaylord, Mich.

FRONK, DONALD R.
Westover - Donald R. Fronk, 44, of Westover died in
Miners Hospital, Spangler, yesterday afternoon. He was born at Westover
Aug. 2, 1919, a son of Orville and Leah Woods Fronk. He was employed as
a power plant operator for the Westover Tanning Co. Surviving are his
wife, Catherine Killion Fronk; four children, Bill, Jerry, Janie and
Jeanie, all at home; his mother of Westover; two sisters and a brother,
Mrs. Ruth Zahursky, New Washington; Mrs. Cordelia Wagner, Altoona, and
Milton Fronk, Norristown. He was preceded in death by an infant son, his
father, a sister and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Monday in the Westover Baptist Church with the Rev. C. R. Cunnings
officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD. Friends may

GABRIELSON, NINA V.
Nina Williams Gabrielson of Lyleville, died at her home
at 4:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon. She was born March 22, 1908, in
Coalport, the daughter of Floyd and Florence Williams. Surviving are her
husband, Robert Gabrielson, and two sons, Robert Jr. and Donald. She was
a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Coalport.
Friends will be received at the Hunter-Lloyd funeral home, Irvona, after
7 o’clock this evening.
GABRIELSON, OSCAR A.
Coalport- Oscar A. Gabrielson, died at the Philipsburg
State Hospital August 15, at 1:25 p.m., following an operation. He had
been a patient in that hospital eight weeks prior to his death. He was
born in Patton, June 13, 1895, and was 47 years, two months and two days
old at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Mable Miles
of Coalport, February 9, 1917, who, with the following children survive:
Robert of Lyleville, Richard and Mrs. Alma Jean Taylor of Pittsburgh,
Leroy, Mildred, Arletta, Jack and Carol Ann, all at home. Also surviving
are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Gabrielson of Patton, a sister and
the following brothers and sister: Mrs. Clara Huber of Clymer, William
of Mansfield, August of Coalport, Charles of Akron, Ohio, Harold of
Cresson, and Edward of Patton. He was a World War veteran, a member of
the Robert Galloway Legion Post, and a member of the Loyal Order of
Moose Lodge and also of the Local Union of Coalport. Funeral services
were held at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Tuesday,
August 18 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul F. Henry officiated at the service.
Interment was made in the Baptist Cemetery at McPherron. (The Progress,

Westover - Christopher Joseph Gallaher, infant son of
James C. and Elizabeth (McGarvey) Gallaher of Westover, died here this
morning at 6:30 o'clock. He was born at Spangler March 23. In addition
to his parents, he is survived by one sister and one brother: Tina Marie
and James Wilson, both at home; his paternal grandparents; Mr. and Mrs.
Clair Gallaher, Berwinsdale; maternal grandparents, Mr.and Mrs. Joel W.
McGarvey, Mahaffey RD2; paternal great-grandmothers, Mrs. Elizabeth

GALLAHER, CLAIR J.
Mr. Gallaher, 83, of Irvona RD1 died at 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1993, at Conemaugh hospital, Johnstown, following an
automobile accident Tuesday morning. Mr. Gallaher retired as a coal
miner, a dairy farmer and a woodsman. He was born Oct. 12, 1909, in
Berwinsdale, the son of Hugh and Elizabeth (McGarvey) Gallaher. He
married Fairy Blake. She died Jan. 2, 1984. Surviving are four children:
James of Irvona RD, Irvin, with whom he resided, Caroline Fulton of
Patton Terrace, Patton, and John of Mechanicsburg; 15 grandchildren and
27 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers and sisters:
Mary Diehl of Columbus, Pa., George, Martha Irvine and Donald of
Berwinsdale and Sarah Witherite of Curwensville RD. He was also a member
of Susquehanna Sportmen’s Club, Mahaffey, and United Mine Workers of

Curwensville Man Killed In Farm Mishap
Dies When Hit By Steel Piece From Thresher
Curwensville - Frederick E. Gallaher, 29, of
Curwensville RD was instantly killed when he was accidently struck on
the right temple by a piece of steel from the metal band around the
cylinder of a thrashing machine he was helping to operate on his
brother's farm near here at 1:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon. According
to reports, the victim was spending Monday helping his brother, John
Gallaher, thrash when the steel band on the motor of the machine broke,
striking Gallaher on the side of the head. He was employed as a coal
miner. Born in Chest Township April 1, 1918, the son of Elizabeth
McGarvey Gallaher and the late Hugh Gallaher, he is survived by his
mother, his wife, the former Helen Spaid and two children, Frederick and
Dorothy. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs.
David O'Shell, Berwinsdale RD; John, Clair, George and Mrs. Lloyd Irwin,
all of Berwinsdale RD; Norman, LaJose RD; Mrs. Howard Diehl, Jamestown,
N.Y.; Mrs. Charles Stiver and Donald, Curwensville. Funeral services
will be held from the Fairview Baptist Church Thursday, August 7, at 2
p.m. with Rev. George M. Straw in charge. Interment will be in the

GALLAHER, FRED JAMES
Mr. Gallaher, 24, of Curwensville RD2 died Wednesday, April 5, 1989, in
Curtin Township, Centre County, as the result of a coal truck accident.
Mr. Gallaher was employed by the Leroy Brink Trucking Co., Irvona RD,
and was a former employee of Peno Auto Parts, Coalport. He was born Oct.
9, 1964, in Clearfield, the son of Donald Hugh and Jean (Michaels)
Gallaher, and April 2, 1988, in West Virginia, married Sharon E.
Fleming. Surviving are his wife and a son, Scott, at home. Also
surviving are his parents of Berwinsdale and four brothers and sisters:
Donald Hugh Jr. of Irvona RD, Charlotte Charles of Grampian RD,
Geraldine Francisco of Curwensville and William of Coalport. Mr.
Gallaher was a 1983 graduate of Moshannon Valley High School, Madera.

GALLAHER, HOWARD B.
Irvona – Howard B. Gallaher, 59, of Irvona, died
Monday, April 10, 2006, at Miners Medical Center. Born March 10, 1947,
at Berwinsdale, he was a son of George S. and Mary A. (Termin) Gallaher.
Mr. Gallaher was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was employed by
Penn-Grampian Coal Co. as a drag operator. He had also worked for
Benjamin Coal Co. for 20 years. Mr. Gallaher enjoyed hunting, gardening,
tractors and taking care of his parents. On Aug. 31, 1966, at
Berwinsdale, he wed Carol (Queen) Gallaher, who survives at Irvona. In
addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two daughters,
Rhonda Troxell and her husband, Mike, and Mary Siles and her husband,
Jeff, all of Curwensville; a son, Howard Gallaher and his wife, Anita,
of Clearfield; 10 grandchildren: Megan, Paden and Jordan Troxell, Tom,
Alicia, Ben and Erin Gallaher, and Nathan, Jacob and Caleb Siles. He is
also survived by three brothers, George "Bud" Gallaher and his
wife, Dorthy, of Kerrmoor, Raymond J. Gallaher or Irvona and Ed Gallaher
and his wife, Carol, of Madera; two sisters, Judy Gardner and her
husband, Greff, of Irvona and Betty Fleming and her husband, Jim, of
Coalport; and his dog, Pepper. Funeral services will be held at Zion
Baptist Church at 2 pm. Tomorrow with the Rev. Richard Engle
officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD. Friends

GALLAHER, JAMES CLAIR
Mr. Gallaher, 53, of Irvona RD1 died at 1:15 a.m.
Saturday, March 6, 1993, at Clearfield Hospital, after an apparent heart
attack. Mr. Gallaher was employed as a lumberman and was a former
employee of the Westover Tannery. He was born Sept. 2, 1939, in
Berwinsdale, the son of Clair and Fairy (Blake) Gallaher. He married
Vivian McCoy of July 1, 1968, in Berwinsdale. Surviving are his wife,
five children: Tina of Irvona RD, James of Irvona, Mark of Burnside,
Nancy of Mountville and Caroline of Pittsburgh, and six grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers and a sister: Irvin of Berwinsdale,
Caroline Fulton of Patton and John of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in
death by his father on Jan. 5, 1993. Mr. Gallaher was a member of
Fairview Baptist Church, LaJose RD. Friends will be received from 2-4

illness. She was born March 8, 1937, in Coalport, the daughter of George
and Vida Eva (Brown) Beers. She married George Gallaher on April 20,
1957, in Rosebud, Coalport RD. Surviving are her husband, three
daughters: Pameia Barrett of LaJose RD, Paula Kohler of Erie and Peggy
of Luthersburg RD, and three grandchildren. Also surviving are seven
brothers and sisters: Grace Shomo of Fallentimber, Betty Mae Hamilton of
Lititz, Mable Klenak of McKeesport, Norma Helsel of Coalport RD,
Patricia Skebeck of Coalport, Verten of Altoona and William of
Jamestown, N.Y. Mrs. Gallaher was a member of Zion Baptist Church,

LaJose - Norman R. Gallaher, 63, of LaJose, died at 5:40
p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the Altoona Hospital. Born in Berwinsdale Dec.
4, 1911, he was a son of Hugh and Elizabeth (McGarvey) Gallaher. He is
survived by his wife, the former Mary Michaels and these children:
Robert, Westover; Mrs. Lee Ann Stiver, LaJose and Mrs. Elizabeth
Kucharcik, Bellwood. Seven grandchildren also survive along with his
mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Gallaher of Berwinsdale and these brothers and
sisters: Mrs. Nora O'Shell, Coalport; Mrs. Mary Diehl, Jamestown, N. Y.,
and Clair, Donald, Mrs. Martha Irvine and Mrs. Sarah Stiver of
Berwinsdale. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, and a
son Dennis on Aug. 7, 1961. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday from

GILES, WILLIAM
Irvona – William J. Giles, 66, of Irvona, died in his
home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, (1988). Born in Irvona July 19, 1921,
the son of Charles and Mary Jane (Diggins) Giles, he wed the former Mary
Black on Sept. 10, 1949 in Rosebud. Survivors include his wife; son
James; brother Grover of Deming, N. M., and Charles of Walnut Grove,
Calif.; sisters June West of Buffalo, N.Y., Libby Decker of Brockway,
Mary Ann Thompson of Coalport and Margarite "Beppy" Giles of
Emporium; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Giles
was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Civilian
Conservation Corps. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the
Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona, with the Rev. Larry Mills
officiating. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.
GLUNT, RONALD H. SR.
Irvona – Graveside services will be held Friday at 11
a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD, for Ronald H. Glunt Sr., 71, of
Irvona, who died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Clearfield Hospital. There
will be no public viewing. Born March 24, 1931, in Export, he was a son
of Ralph and Anne (Stover) Glunt. Mr. Glunt was employed at Mill Wright
by U.S. Steel. He is survived by a son, Ronald H. Jr., of Irvona; three
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph Roy Jr. of
Donegal, and Harry and Larry, both of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister,
Loretta Arnt of Omaha, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Marie Glunt of Kissimmee,
Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Glunt was preceded in death
by his parents; brothers, David, Nevan, Roy, Floyd "Timothy",
Carl "Tucker", Lester, Donald and Sam Arb; and sisters,
Elizabeth Funk, Marie "Bunnie" Weston and Elsie Howel. The

GREGG, HARRY K.
Mr. Gregg, 63, of Rosebud, Coalport RD 1, died at 1
a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 1981, in Altoona Hospital. Mr. Gregg retired as a
coalminer. He was born Sept 22, 1918, in VanOrmer, the son of Harry M.
and Nellie (Boughamer) Gregg, and Jan 3, 1946, married Mae L. Shank.
Surviving are his wife, two children: Mrs. Donna Jane Herman of Osceola
Mills and Harry T. of Coalport, and five grandchildren. Also surviving
are four sisters and a brother: Mrs. Edith Wilson of Indiana, Mrs. Alice
Shomo of VanOrmer, Mrs. Margaretta Toohey of Fallentimber, Mrs. Thelma
Willis of Altoona and Calvin in Alaska. Mr. Gregg was an Army veteran of
World War II. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America,

Mrs. Gregg, 71, of Rosebud, Coalport, died at 4:45 p.m.
Monday, July 12, 1993, at Mercy Hospital. She was born Aug. 22, 1921, in
Huntingdon, the daughter of Harry and Irene M. (Hockenberry) Shank. She
married Harry Kenneth Gregg. He died Nov. 16, 1981. Surviving are two
children: Donna Herman of Osceola Mills and Harry T., at home, five
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from

GREGG, P. CALVIN
P. Calvin Gregg, 62, of Ebensburg, and formerly of Van
Ormer, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1986, at 3:30 a.m. at Lee Hospital,
Johnstown. Born in Van Ormer, March 23, 1924, he was the son of Harry
and Nellie (Baughmer) Gregg. He had served in the Navy during World War
II. Mr. Gregg is survived by his wife, the former Georgie Mae Diggins,
whom he married Sept. 10, 1942, in New York; three sons, Richard C. of
Tacoma, Wash., Douglas J. of Wasilla, Alaska, and Jeffrey A. of
Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Thelma
Willis and Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson, both of Indiana, and Mrs. Margaretta
Toohey of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by his parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister. Services
will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral Home,
Irvona, with the Rev. Richard Ager officiating. Interment will follow in
Fairview Cemetery, LaJose.
GRIMES, CLOYD W.
Cloyd W. Grimes, 63, Glendale Valley Boulevard, Flinton,
died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Philipsburg Area Hospital. He was born
March 22, 1933, in Frugality, the son of the late Frank and Blanche
(Rickard) Grimes. He married Wanda L. (Kutruff) Thompson March 18, 1989,
in Coalport. Mr. Grimes was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church,
Coalport. He had been employed by Swank Refractories and TYK Brickyard,
Irvona, where he worked for 27 years and retired in 1994. Mr. Grimes was
a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council, Fallentimber,
and a member of the Glendale Sportsmen. Surviving are his wife; a son,
Robert W. of Coalport RD; a daughter Mary Kaye Dick of Lyleville; two
stepsons; David Thompson of Fallentimber; a stepdaughter, Teresa Stoltz
of Raton, N.M.; four brothers; Clarence of New Port, Wash., Walter of
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Frank of Fallentimber and James of Irvona; six
sisters: Imojean Zupich of Irvona, Beatrice Dotts of Northfield, Ohio,
twin Cleo Spear of Drear, N.H., Mary Lou Nuti of Concord Township, Ohio,
Helen Hayman of Leighton and Joyce Baker of Clearfield; and six
grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday
at Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport.

HALL, THELMA R.
Irvona - Mrs. Thelma R. Hall, 60,H of Irvona, died at
her home at 4:15 a.m. today. She was born in Altoona May 5, 1914, the
daughter of Zenas and Maude (Carter) Sutter. She was married Feb. 14,
1938 to Edward Hall, who survives along with two daughters - Myrna Brink
of Irvona and Mrs. William G. (Eleanor) Atkins of Houtzdale. Six
grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her
parents and one granddaughter. She was a graduate of Altoona High School
and the Philipsburg State General Hospital of Nursing in 1936. She had
been employed by the Glendale School District for the past 21 years.
Mrs. Hall was a member of the Irvona United Methodist Church and the BPW
Club. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Wendell W.
Lloyd Funeral Home in Irvona. The Rev. William Chamberlin will
officiate, and interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Friday and Saturday from
2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers,

Mrs. Thelma R Hall, 60, Expires
Mrs. Thelma R. Hall, 60, of Irvona, died at her home at
4:15 Sept. 5. Funeral services were held on Sunday at the Wendell W.
Lloyd Funeral Home in Irvona. The Rev. William Chamberlain officiated
and interment followed at Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD. Friends were
received at the funeral home on Friday and Saturday. She was born in
Altoona, May 5, 1914, the daughter of Zenas and Maude (Carter) Sutter.

Westover - Mrs. Ellen V. Harris, 50, of Youngstown,
N.Y., a native of Westover RD, died Saturday, July 12. She was born in
Westover Dec. 4, 1924, a daughter of Emmanuel and Viola (Hockenberry)
Barto. She is survived by her husband Leroy and seven sons: Philip,
James, David and Kenneth, all of Youngstown, N.Y.; Thomas of
Schenectady, N.Y.; Frederick of Ransomville, N.Y., and William of
Shirley, Mass. Eight grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters,
also survive. Services will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. from the Wendell
W. Lloyd Funeral Home, Irvona. The Rev. Howard Swan will officiate and

HEWITT, DORIS J.
Coalport – Doris Jean Hewitt, 69, of Rosebud, Coalport
RD, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Altoona Hospital. Born June 28,
1932, in Irvona, she was a daughter of Melvin and Olive (Diehl)
Morrison. Mrs. Hewitt was a member of the Eastern Star, Clearfield, and
did volunteer work for the Clearfield County Cancer Society and Rainbow’s
End, Duncansville, where she knitted garments for infants. She made
candy for the Presbyterian Church, Irvona, for their Christmas and
Easter fund drives. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth,
whom she wed Nov. 28, 1952; one brother, Gordon and his wife, Patty Cree,
of Norton, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will
be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport, with
Rev. Thomas McGill officiating. Friends will be received from 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service tomorrow

HOCKENBERRY, CARRIE
LaJose - Mrs. Carrie E. Hockenberry, 85, widow of David
Hockenberry, died at her home here last night following a long illness.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lydia Kitchen of Turtle Creek,
Pa. and Mrs. Viola Barto, Mrs. Gertrude McMasters and Mrs. Goldie Noel,
all of LaJose. Several grandchildren also survive. Her husband preceded
her in death two years ago. Funeral services will be held from the
Fairview Baptist Church Friday, Jan. 27, at 2:30 o'clock in charge of
Rev. C. T. Bookamer of Irvona. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hockenberry, 75, of Irvona died at 1:30 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 3, 1985, in the home of her daughter of Beccaria. She
was born March 12, 1907, in Altoona, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Boyles, and married Michael Hockenberry, who died in 1978. Surviving are
six children: Dora Houle of Hyde; Elizabeth Queen of East Lake, Ohio;
Agnes Queen of Irvona; John of Coalport; George of Everett and Betty
Sabol of Beccaria; 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Friends

Irvona – Frances E. "Fran" Hockenberry, 65,
of Irvona, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 1996, at her residence. Born Oct. 9,
1930 in Boston, Pa., she was a daughter of George and Frances (Freeman)
Smith. Mrs. Hockenberry was employed by McGregor’s and SueFran sewing
factories for a number of years. She retired as a nurse’s aid from the
Curwensville Nursing Home in 1991 after 10 years of service. Surviving
are her husband, Kenneth, whom she married in 1958 in Irwin; a son,
Stephen Hillard of Irvona; a daughter Dorothy Hockenberry of Irvona;
four grandchildren; one great-grandson, Patrick; these brothers and
sisters; Jacelyn Pavlo and Dorothy Swishelm, both of Fargo, Fla., Herman
and Homer Smith, both of Irvoa, Joan Harrison of McKeesport, Robert
Smith of Mahaffey, and Marion Berry of California; and numerous nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; these brothers,
George, John, William, Joseph, David and J. D. Campbell; and a sister

HOCKENBERRY, JOHN A. Sr.
John A. Hockenberry Sr., 62, Beccaria, died Oct. 11,
1995, in Beccaria. He was born May 2, 1933, in Irvona, a son of Michael
and Cynthia (Boyles) Hockenberry. Surviving are three sons: John
Hockenberry Jr. and David Hockenberry, both of Coalport; and Richard
Hockenberry, Fallentimber; four sisters: Dora Houle, Hyde; Elizabeth
Queen, New Millport; Agnes Queen, Irvona and Betty Sabol, Beccaria; and
a brother, George Hockenberry, Ephrata. He was preceded in death by his
parents. Mr. Hockenberry was a millworker for Fishel Pallet Co.,
Blandburg. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of the Coalport VFW.
Funeral service was held Oct. 14 at Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home, Irvona.
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD.
HOCKENBERRY, KENNETH
Irvona – Kenneth Hockenberry, 83, of Irvona died
Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at his residence. Born March 27, 1913 in Lajose,
R. D., he was a son of the late Viola Hockenberry. Mr. Hockenberry owned
and operated a saw mill in LaJose RD for many years. He was a member of
the Loyal Order of Moose in Hastings, Coalport and Hastings Veterans of
Foreign Wars posts. Glendale Volunteer Fire Co. and Cambria and Central
District firemen’s associations. He is survived by four children,
Dorothy Hockenberry of Irvona, Stephen Hillard of Ohio, Elsie Ogden and
Ruth Ann Kucharcik, both of Clearfield; six grandchildren, two
great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his
mother, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, manuel Barto; and
his wife, the former Frances "Fran" Smith on Jan. 18, 1996.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Gibbons Funeral Home,
Coalport, with the Rev. David Ealy officiating. Interment will be in
Fairview Baptist Cemetery, LaJose RD. Friends will be received from 2-4

Westover - Violet Ruth Holes, 86, of Westover, died
Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona.
born March 24, 1918, in Five Points, she was a daughter of the late
Armstrong Kitchen and Gertrude Kellogg. She was a member of the Westover
Baptist Church and the Westover Golden Age Society. She is survived by
seven sons, Melvin Holes of California, Francis Holes of Maryland,
Leonard Holes of Texas, Arnold Holes of Westover, Amos Holes of LaJose,
David Holes of Westover and Austin Holes of DuBois; seven daughters,
Thelma Lunsford of Milllersburg, Ohio, Caroline Johnson of Akron, N.Y.,
Shirley Showl of Arkansas, Helen Showl of Arkansas, Joy Turik of Allport,
Margaret Trice of California and Abigail Thelbold of Massachusetts. Ms.
Holes is also survived by 40 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Edger Kitchen of Portage and Walter Kitchen of Tennessee; and
three sisters, Norma Phillips of Missouri, Lettie Warchola of Missouri
and Cynthia Schafer of Florida. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Merle Holes; two sons, Charles and
Eddie and two grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by five
brothers, Ernist, Wayne, Earl, Kalvin and Clayton; and two sisters,
Ester and Bertha Hicks. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the
Westover Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles "Bud" Long
officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, LaJose. Friends

Mr. Holes, 24, of LaJose RD, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday,
Oct. 30, 1986, in the DuBois Regional Health Center West, following a
brief illness. He was born July 16, 1962, in LaJose, the son of Irvin
and Catherine (Willy) Holes. Surviving are his parents and five brothers
and sisters: Irvin Jr. of Irvona, Robert of Coalport RD, Kimberly Oaks
of Cherry Tree RD, and Terri and Kristine at home. Also surviving are

Akron, N.Y. - Maryjane (Junod) Hullihen, 74, of Akron,
N.Y., died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006. Born July 20, 1931, at Curwensville,
she was the daughter of John and Mary Elizabeth (Diehl) Junod. She is
survived by her husband of 49 years, Lynn Hullihen; a daughter, Karen
Baran and her husband, David; a stepdaughter, Lynda Witherow; five
grandchildren, Nicholas and Katelyn Baran, and Larry, Connie and Justin
Witherow; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Calvin Junod; and several

Jordan Supervisor Dies While Hunting
Irvona - Lloyd Irvine, 55, of Irvona RD, a Jordan
Township supervisor, died yesterday at 1:30 p.m. Mr. Irvine reportedly
suffered a heart attack while deer hunting. He was born in Berwinsdale
July 19, 1920, a son of Margaret Irvine. He is survived by his wife, the
former Martha Gallaher, a son, John, a daughter, Mildred, and a
granddaughter, all of Irvona RD. He was preceded in death by his mother,
and one daughter, Mary Jane. Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 4 at 2
p.m. at the Wendell W. Lloyd Funeral Home in Irvona. Interment will be
in the Fairview Cemetery, LaJose RD. Friends may call at the funeral

Berwinsdale - Margaret I. Irvine, 74, of Berwinsdale,
died in Miners Hospital, at Spangler yesterday, March 21, at 5:15 a.m.
Born in Clearfield County Feb. 4, 1894, she was the daughter of William
and Mary (Phillips) Irvine. She is survived by a son, Lloyd, of
Berwinsdale, two grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters:
Mrs. Joseph (Grace) Kitchen and Mrs. Edward (Rachel) Davies, both of

JOHN, ANNIE J.
Miss Annie Jane John, a former Clearfield resident, died
at New Brighton Saturday night, Jan. 17, at 10:17 o'clock. Miss John was
born Dec. 1, 1872, a daughter of Tobias and Jane McGarvey John, both of
whom are deceased. She was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church and
of Class No. 17 of the church Sunday School. She was also a member of
the Order of Eastern Star and a member and past Royal Matron of the
Order of Amaranth. Before moving to New Brighton, Miss John had made her
home for 25 years with the Anthony Gorman family and for 15 years with
Mrs. Eva Bouton Mann. Surviving her are two sisters: Mrs. Howard
Westover of Huntingdon and Mrs. Samuel Lamey of Pittsburgh; and a
brother: Blair John of Buffalo, N.Y. She also leaves Miss Evelyn A.
Gorman, Binghamton, N.Y.; Mrs Elizabeth Gorman Miller of Johnstown, and
Mrs. Kathleen Gorman Shomaker, Buffalo, N.Y., with whom she lived for 25
years. Funeral services will be from the Leavy Funeral Home Wednesday
afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. H.W. Glassco, D.D., officiating. Burial
will be made in the McPherson Cemetery at LaJose R.D. Friends may call
at the funeral home after 7 o'clock tonight, tomorrow afternoon and
evening and until time of services Wednesday. Amaranth Memorial services
will take place at the funeral home tomorrow night at 7:30 o'clock. (The

JOHNS, DANIEL M.
Irvona - Daniel M. Johns, 78, died at his home here
Sunday, August 29 at 5 p.m. Born in Armstrong County in 1870, he is
survived by the following children: Mrs. Adelaide Albright and Dayton
both of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Mayme Boone, Blairsville; Mrs. Edna Caskey,
Coalport; Mrs. Christine Hommer, New Jersey and Mrs. Myrtle McCullough,
Rimersburg. His wife died three months ago. The following two sisters
and brother also survive him: Mrs. Howard Westover, Huntingdon; Miss
Annie Johns, Clearfield and Blair, Endicott, New York. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. and internment will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call at his home from 8 o’clock tonight until time of the

JOHNS. ELIZABETH
Irvona – Mrs. Elizabeth Johns, 71, who died Sunday,
May 23, at the Philipsburg Hospital is survived by her husband, Daniel,
and the following children: Dayton and Adelaide Albright Akron, Ohio;
Mayme Boone, Blairsville; Edna Caskey, Coalport; Christine Hommer,
Clarksboro, N.J. and Myrtle McClellan of Rimerburg. The deceased was a
member of the Methodist church of Irvona, regent of the Alexander
chapter of the D.A.R. of Madera, a charter member of both the P.O. of A.
Irvona and the Charles Killian Post of American Legion Auxiliary of
Irvona and also a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Coalport.
JOHNSTON, SYDNA F.
Mrs. Sydna F. Johnston, 81, Irvona, died Saturday, March
29, 1997, at her residence. She was born Dec. 9, 1915, in Irvona, the
daughter of the late Thaddeus and Ruth (Holes) Stephens. She married
Richard Johnston. Mrs. Johnston was a lifelong member of the Irvona
Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where she served as pianist.
She was a homemaker and a piano teacher for many years. Surviving are
her husband, three sons: Stephen of Cleveland, Paul of Irvona and Robert
T. of Altoona; two daughters: Marilyn of Irvona and Judith of Maron,
Va.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by a son, John. Arrangements by Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home,
Irvona.
JOHNSTON – Services for Sydna F. Johnston of Irvona
will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Baptist Cemetery, by the Rev.
Paul Jacobson of Irvona Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Interment will follow. Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by a brother
and three sisters.
JOHNSTON, WILLIAM C.
Niagara Falls, N.Y. - William Clinton Johnston, 27, a
native of Curry Run, but in recent years a resident of Niagara Falls,
N.Y., died at his home here at 1:50 a.m. yesterday following a heart
attack. Born in Curry Run October 13, 1922, a son of Max T. and Dora
Strunk Johnston, the deceased is survived by his widow, the former
Lucille Miles of Coalport, his parents and the following brothers and
sisters: Max and Robert, Niagara Falls, N.Y., Mary and Patricia, at home
in Curry Run; Mrs. Ruth Odrosky of Clearfield and Mrs. Martha Painter of
Smithport. During World War II the deceased enlisted in the U. S.
Marines and after training at Paris Island was assigned to the Third
Marines Air Wing with which he served nearly 16 months in the Pacific
Theatre of Operations. He was married shortly after his discharge from
the service and made his home here. Funeral services will be held from
the Methodist Church at Curry Run Sunday, March 7, at 2 p.m. with Rev.
James A. Farrar officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery
at LaJose. Friends may call at the home of the deceased's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Max Johnston in Curry Run this evening and until time of the
