BALL, DENNIS
Madera – Mr. Ball was born in Utahville Feb. 25, 1935,
a son of Guy L. and Esther (Gault) Ball. He is survived by his mother,
his wife, the former Ilean Travis, three children, Dennis D. Jr., DeAnn
D. and Dayna D., all at home and these brothers and sisters: Mrs.
Cecelia Kuzub, Fallentimber; Mrs. Beryl Eichorn, Yalesville, Conn.; Mrs.
Junie Maslowski, Punxsutawney; Guy Jr. and Thaddeus of Smoke Run;
Stephen, Beccaria; Walter, Irvona R.D.; Mrs. Carrie Stephen and Wesley,
Utahville; Timothy, McGees Mills and Miss Bona Ball, Madera. Mr. Ball
was a member of the Potts Run Sportsmen's Association and was
self-employed as a lumberman. Services for the victim will be held at 2
p.m. Monday from the Plass Funeral Home in Glasgow. The Rev. Dennis C.
Sproul will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery,
Utahville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9

BALL, ESTHER CECELIA
Esther Cecelia Ball, 80, of Utahville, Coalport R.D.,
died Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10 p.m. in Philipsburg State General
Hospital. Born April 27, 1908, in Lyleville, she was the daughter of
Thurman and Jenny (Penner) Gault, who preceded her in death along with
her husband, Guy I. Ball on Sept. 28, 1971; one son, Dennis; two
daughter, Bona Burns and Beryl Eichorne; one grandson, Leland Ball; and
one sister, Beryl Gault. She is survived by these children, Cecelia
Kuzub of Fallentimber R.D., June Maslowski of Punxsutawney, Guy of Smoke
Run, Thaddeus, Steven, Wesley and Carrie Stephens, all of Coalport R.D.,
Walter of Irvona and Timothy of Mahaffey; numerous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and
one sister; Paul Gault of California, John Ball of Florida, William Ball
of Utah and Jenny Bloom of Meriden, Conn. Mrs. Ball was a graduate of
Lyleville High School, Class of 1923, and was a member of the Episcopal
Believers Tabernacle of Clearfield. Services will be held Sunday at 2
p.m. from the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, with the Rev. John J. Gill
officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Clemens Cemetery, Utahville.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and
tomorrow from noon until the service.
BALL, GENEVA A.
Mrs. Geneva A. Ball, 71, a guest of Altoona Hospital
Center for Nursing Care, formerly of Fallentimber, died Friday morning,
Sept. 6, 1996, at the center. She was born March 23, 1925, in Flinton,
the daughter of Henry and Annie (OShell) Knotts. She married William
Ball Jr. Dec. 24, 1946, in Coalport. He died Oct. 30, 1971. Surviving
are two sons: Ronald of Coalport, and Richard of Fallentimber; two
daughters: Brenda K. Miller of Utahville and Bonnie L. Keith of
Fallentimber, and George of Patton; a sister, Mildred Bender of
Fallentimber; and four grandchildren. Arrangements by McQuown Funeral
Home, Glasgow.

Man Found Dead Near His Home
Utahville – George Ball, 74, a resident of Utahville
R.F.D. 1, was found dead Saturday morning on the private lane leading to
his home, it was reported today by Dr. E. S, Erhard, County Coroner. It
was believed that Ball died Friday sometime after 10 p.m. He had been in
the habit of getting a friend to drive him to the lane leading to his
home, and nearby residents said they saw a truck drive into the lane and
unload a passenger about 10 p.m. It was assumed that Ball had ridden on
the trucks which brought him home after a shopping trip here. Dr. Erhard
said evidence showed that Ball had started to walk down the lane to his
home with a large package of groceries and collapsed. Death was
attributed to a heart ailment and as there was no evidence of foul play
an inquest would not be held. The body was found by George Snow, a
neighbor of Ball’s early Saturday morning. The deceased is survived by
his widow, who is in ill health and several children, none of who live
at home. The Ball residence is about one mile off the highway between
Glen Hope and Coalport in Beccaria Twp. (The Progress, December 7, 1942)

Coalport – Guy L. Ball Sr., 87, of Coalport R. D. died
yesterday morning at his home. Born in Beccaria Township, Jan 21, 1884,
a son of William and Carolina E. (Hillard) Ball, he is survived by his
wife, the former Esther Gault whom he married Jan. 21, 1924, and these
children: Mrs. Cecilla Kuzub, Wallingford, Conn: Mrs. Beryle Eichorn,
Yalesville, Conn.; Mrs. Junie Maslowski, Chesire, Conn., Miss Bona Ball
at home, Guy and Thaddeus, Smoke Run: Dennis, McCartney; Timothy Meridan,
Conn; and Stephen, Walter, Mrs. Carrie Stephens and Wesley, Coalport R.
D. There are 35 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A son
Christie preceded him in death. Mr. Ball was the last surviving member
of his immediate family. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Friday at the Russell L. Troxell Funeral Home, Glasgow. The Rev. Norman
Howell will officiate and interment will be at Mr. Pleasant Cemetery,

BALL, JAMES W.
James W. Ball, 23, of Oxford, Ark., formerly of Irvona,
died Monday evening, Oct. 23, 1995, at Clearfield Hospital emergency
room, as a result of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident in
Beccaria Township Monday evening. He was born Jan. 3, 1972, in
Philipsburg, the son of Walter J. and Melva M. (Stephenson) Ball. Mr.
Ball was self-employed as a lumberman. Surviving are his parents of
Oxford, two sisters: Tina M. of LaJose and Terri L. Davidson of
Mahaffey; a brother, Thomas W. of Oxford; three half sisters: Audrey
Danforth of Norwalk, Conn., Andrea Casey of Staunton, Va., and Tricia
Patterson of Clymer; and a half brother, Jay Ball of Oxford. At the
request of the family, there will be no visitation. Friends will be
received from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow.

Mrs. Jenny Ball, 58, wife of John Ball of Madera, died
in the Memorial Hospital here last night (Thursday) at 11:50 o’clock.
Relatives took charge of the body and had it removed to their home to be

BALL, LELAND D.
Coalport - Leland D. Ball, 22, of Coalport R.D. died
at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, in Beccaria Township. Born Feb. 12, 1966,
in Philipsburg, he was a son of Stephen H. and Larue A. (Nagle) Ball. He
is survived by his parents of Coalport R.D.; a sister and two brothers,
Tiffany Reitmyer of Coalport and Mark and Clinton, both at home; and his
grandmother, Esther Ball of Utahville, Coalport R.D. He was preceded in
death by two sisters, Pamela and Kimberly. Mr. Ball was a 1985 graduate
of Glendale High School and attended the Altoona Vo-Tech School. He was
employed as a lumberman in the Coalport area by his uncle, Walter Ball,
and was a member of the Apostolic Believers Tabernacle, Clearfield.
Services were held at 11 a.m. today at the McQuown Funeral Home,
Glasgow, with the Rev. John J. Gill officiating. Interment was in Mount
Pleasant Cemetery , Utahville.

McCartney - Perry Ball, 52, of McCartney, died at his
home here Tuesday, June 8. Surviving him are one sister, Mrs. Adeline
Newman of McCartney and a brother, Guy Ball of Utahville. Funeral
services will be held from his home Friday at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev.
Paul Shaffer of Altoona. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near

Coalport – Stephen H. Ball, 69, of Crossroads
Boulevard, Coalport, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at 6:50 a.m. at his
residence. Born Feb. 14, 1933, in Utahville, he was a son of the late
Guy L. and Esther C. (Gault) Ball. Mr. Ball was a self-employed logger.
On July e, 1965, in Virginia, he wed the form Larue A. Nagle, who
scurvies. Also surviving are three children, Tiffany A. Reitmyer and
Clinton R., both of Coalport, and Mark A. of Smithmill; nine
grandchildren; three sisters, Cecelia Kuzub of Fallentimber, June
Maslowski of Punxsutawney and Carrie Stephens of Utahville; and three
brothers, Guy of smoke Run, Walter of Berwindale and Wesley of (large
part is missing) Funeral services will be held Saturday (missing)

Irvona – Walter J. Ball, 64, of Irvona died
Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Clearfield Hospital. Born May 15, 1939, in
Utahville, he was a son of Guy L. and Esther C. (Gault) Ball. Mr. Ball
was a self-employed lumberman. On May 17, 1967, in Virginia, he wed
Melva M. Stephenson, who survives along with 10 children, Tina M. Ball
of LaJose, Terri L. Davidson of Mahaffey, Thomas W. Ball of Irvona,
Audrey Danforth of Cape Cod, Mass., Andrea Casey of Maine, Jay Ball,
Tammy Ball, Kristy Ball and Jeff Danforth, all of Connecticut, and
Tricia Patterson of Arkansas; and 21 grandchildren. Also surviving are
three sisters, Cecelia Kuzub of Fallentimber, June Maslowski of
Punxsutawney and Carrie Stephens of Utahville; and two brothers, Guy of
Smoke Run and Wesley of Bellefonte. Mr. Ball was preceded in death by
his parents; a son, James Ball; four brothers, Thaddeus, Timothy, Dennis
and Stephen; and two sisters, Bona Burns and Beatrice Eichorn. Funeral
services will be private. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery,
Utahville. McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, is in charge of the

William Ball Jr., 51, Fallentimber, dead on arrival
at 10 a.m. Oct. 30, at the Altoona Hospital. Born August 4, 1920, in
Utahville, a son of George W. and Amanda (Montgomery) Ball. Survived by
his wife, the former, Geneva Knotts and the following children: Ronald,
Richard, Brenda Kay and Bonnie Lee, all at home. Also surviving is a
brother, Leonard, Florida; and sisters: Mrs. Pearl Laughard, Ramey, Pa.;
Mrs. Ruth Keith, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Mrs. Anna Mulhollem, Irvona R. D.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Richard L. Beers Post
7042, VFW, Coalport and the Irvona Clay Workers Club. Friends were
received at the Russell L. Troxell Funeral Home, Glasgow, where services
were held on Tuesday by the Rev. Richard C. Baker. Interment followed
with graveside military services by the Coalport VFW, Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery, Utahville, Pa.

Mrs. Burns, 44, of Beccaria, Coalport RD1, died at
5:27 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 1987, as a result of a one-vehicle accident
at Hegarty’s Crossroads, Beccaria Township, Clearfield County. She was
born April 4, 1943, in Beccaria Township, the daughter of Guy L. and
Esther (Gault) Ball, and March 1, 1985, in Madera, married Daniel E.
Burns. Surviving are her husband, and two children: Timmy Lee and Tommy
Lynn, at home. Also surviving are her mother of Utahville, and nine
brothers and sisters: Cecelia Kuzub of Fallentimber RD, June Maslowski
of Punxsutawney, Guy of Smoke Run, Thaddeus, Stephen, Wesley and Carrie
Stephens of Coalport RD, Walter of Irvona and Timothy of Burnside. Mrs.
Burns was a member of the Apostolic Believers Tabernacle, Clearfield.

Mr. Burns, 38, of Box 566, Coalport RD1, died at
11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1987, at Altoona Hospital as the result of
a one-vehicle accident on Dec. 7 at Hegarty’s Crossroads, Beccaria
Township, Clearfield County. Mr. Burns was employed by Stevens Logging
Co., Clearfield. He was born May 27, 1949, in Altoona, the son of Nathan
R. and Ellie M. (Holes) Burns, and March 1, 1985, in Madera, married
Bona E. Ball, who died Dec. 7, 1987. Surviving are four children: Danny,
Danielle, Christine and Billie Jo, at home. Also surviving are his
mother of Bellwood, and 11 brothers and sisters: Nathan R. Jr. of
Fostoria, Harry B. of Hopewell, Morris of Akron, Ohio, Gertrude Eaken of

DILLEN, ELLEN
Well Known Utahville Lady Dead
Mrs. John Dillen Passes Away at Philipsburg Hospital
Last Thursday
Mrs. Ellen Dillen, widow of the late John Dillen, of
Utahville, died at the Philipsburg Hospital, Thursday morning, September
12th, where she had been taken for treatment a few days before. She
suffered from hernia and died from the effects of an operation. Mrs.
Dillen was aged 76 years and three months. The remains were brought to
the home of her daughter, Mr. J. P. O’Shell near Utahville, Friday.
The funeral took place from the home Monday afternoon at two o’clock,
Rev. McHenry of the Glasgow U. B. church being in charge. Interment was
made in the Dillen cemetery near Utahville. Undertaker E. W. Gordon of
Coalport was in charge. Mrs. Dillen was esteemed and respected by
everyone and had a wide circle of relatives and friends.
GATHAGAN, FLORENCE
Beccaria - Mrs. Florence E. Gathagan, 74, of Beccaria
died yesterday at the Altoona Hospital where she was admitted Sunday.
She was born Feb. 21, 1897, in Glen Hope, a daughter of Mrs. Adaline
(Ball) Newman. She was married Nov. 18, 1918, in Virginia to William C.
Gathagan who survives along with the following children: William P.,
Fallentimber; Mrs. Susan O'Donnell and Mrs. Nellie Mackey, Utahville;
Mrs. Adaline Gathagan and James A., Akron, Ohio; John L., Wadsworth,
Ohio; and the Rev. Henry G., Chicago. Ill. Twenty grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by a
son, Percy D. She was a member of the Beccaria Christian and Missionary
Alliance Church. Friends may call after 2 p.m. tomorrow and until 11:30
a.m. Friday at the Russell L. Troxell Funeral Home in Glasgow; and after
12:30 p.m. Friday at the Beccaria Christian and Missionary Alliance
Church where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. The Rev. Raymond

William C. Gathagan, 76, Beccaria, died at 6:54 p.m.
Jan. 9, 1972, at Philipsburg State Hospital, where he was admitted Dec.
31, 1971. Born March 1, 1895, in Ramey, son of David and Cordelia (Rush)
Gathagan. Married Nov. 18, 1918, in Virginia to former Florence Ball,
who died April 26, 1971. Survived by these children: William P.,
Hollentown; Mrs. John (Susan) O’Donnell and Mrs. Nellie Mackey, both
of Utahville; Miss Adaline and James A., both of Akron, Ohio; John,
Wadsworth, Ohio and the Rev. Henry, Pueblo, Colo.; also 20 grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren. Brother of Miss Nellie and Miss Sue
Gathagan, both of Huntingdon; Carl, Ginter; Dave and Edward, both of
Ohio and Roy, Las Vegas, Nev. Member of Beccaria UMWA. Retired coal

HEVERLY, HARRY W.
Mrs. Heverly, 71, of Utahville, Coalport RD, died at
6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 1989, at his residence. Mr. Heverly
retired as a resort chef in 1982. He was born Aug. 13, 1917, in
Utahville, the son of Frank and Jeannette (Heverly) Edelblute, and was
twice married: first, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Lucy Delappi, and then on
June 16, 1973, in Canada, to Adaline Gathagan. Surviving are his wife,
six children: Joanna of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Harry, Jacquelyn Krystneiak,
Sandra Kramer and Kimberly Kawa of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Harriet
Moffett of Tonawanda, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Mr. Heverly was an Army veteran of World War II,
serving as first sergeant. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9
p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at McQuown Funeral Home,
Glasgow.

HOLCOMBE, RAYMOND ALFRED BALL
Raymond Alfred Ball Holcombe, 52, Madera, died
Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, in Reade Township, as the result of a logging
accident. He was born Sept. 26, 1946, in Daytona Beach, Fla., the son of
Frank Holcombe and Pauline Ball. His father preceded him in death. He
married Frances Brink July 14, 1986, in Coalport. Mr. Holcombe had
worked as a logger for many years. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam
War. Mr. Holcombe was a life member of the Coalport Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post and a social member of the Madera Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post. Surviving are his wife; a daughter: Wanda K. Medlen in South
Caroline; two sons: Raymond A. Jr. and William L., both in South
Carolina; five stepsons: James Mostoller of Somerset, Adam L. Mostoller
of Houtzdale; Glenn A. Clouser of Beccaria and Frank Joseph Clouser of
Starrs, Conn.; his mother and stepfather, Guy and Pauline Ball of Smoke
Run; five boys raised in the home: Harold Lansberry Jr. in California,
Joseph Lansberry of Erie, Brian Lansberry of Smoke Run and David
Lansberry of Bloomington; three sisters: Grace Lane of Smoke Run and
Annette Hoopage and Grace Phillips, both in South Carolina; three
brothers: William L. and Guy Ball Jr., both of Madera, and Walter
Holcombe in South Carolina; and 24 grandchildren. Friends will be
received from 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m.
Saturday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport. Interment will be made at

KUZUB, CECELIA
Fallentimber – Cecelia Kuzub, 78, of 243 Shadey
Lane, Fallentimber, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Altoona Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1925, in Utahville, she was a daughter of Guy L. and Esther
C. (Gault) Ball. Mrs. Kuzub was a homemaker and also worked in the
logging industry with her brothers. On Sept. 11, 1948, in Wallingford,
Conn., she wed Paul Kuzub, who died Aug. 1985. She is survived by two
daughters, Shawna Shomo of Van Ormer and Denise Believeu of Vero Beach,
Fla.; two sisters, June Maslowski of Punxsutawney and Carrie Stephens of
Utahville; and two brothers, Guy of Smoke Run and Wesley of Bellefonte.
Mrs. Kuzub was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons,
Paul and Mark; a granddaughter; Kiernin Lee; a grandson Nathan Bachman;
a great-grandson; two sisters, Bona Burns and Beryl Eichorn; and five
brothers; Walter, Stephen, Thaddeus, Timothy and Dennis. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roseland Christian
Fellowship Church, with Pastor Jon Hommer officiating. Interment will be
Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Utahville. Friends will be received from 9 a.m.
until the hour of services at the church Wednesday. McQuown Funeral
Home, Glasgow, is in charge of the arrangements.
LAUGHARD, FLORENCE
Mineral Springs - Mrs. Florence Ball Laughard, 75,
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Warren, in Mineral Springs
at 10:40 p.m. Friday, April 17. A daughter of William and Caroline Ball,
she was born in Beccaria Township, on July 16, 1866. The following
children survive: William Laughard of McCartney; John of Altoona;
Stephen of Buckhorn; Milton of Fernwood; Mrs. Adaline Hockenberry of
Flinton; Caroline of Mineral Springs. There are 24 grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: John
and Mrs. Adaline Newman of McCartney; George, Perry and Guy, all of
Utahville. Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon

LEE, KIERNIN
Mrs. Kiernin Lee, 22, of Van Ormer, Fallentimber RD,
died late Thursday afternoon, Dec. 8, 1994, at Conemaugh hospital trauma
unit, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident at 31st
Street and Walnut Avenue early Wednesday morning. She was born March 11,
1972, in Meridian, the daughter of Robin and Shawna (Kuzub) Shomo. She
married Robert P. Lee Jr. on Oct. 28, 1989 in Hollentown. Mrs. Lee
attended the Hollentown Assembly of God Church. She was employed as a
packer for Warnaco, Duncansville. Surviving is her husband of
Fallentimber, a daughter, Kassandra R. of Fallentimber, a brother, Dylan
Bachman of Van Ormer, a stepbrother, Robin Shomo Jr. of Van Ormer, her
parents of Van Ormer, and a grandmother, Cecelia Kuzub, with whom she
resided. She was preceded in death by a son, Sam D. Lloyd. Friends will
be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at McQuown Funeral Home,
Glasgow.
LEE – Services for Mrs. Kiernin Lee of Van Ormer,

Infant son of Sam R. Lloyd of Glasgow and Kiernin
Kuzub of Van Ormer, died at 4:12 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 1988, at
Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born April 20, 1988, in
Altoona Hospital. Surviving are his grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd L.
Lloyd of Glasgow and Shawna N. Kuzub of Van Ormer; great-grandparents;
Charles T. Lloyd of West Point Park and Cecelia Kuzub of Fallentimber,
and great-great-grandmothers: Matilda Lloyd of Clearfield and Esther
Ball of Utahville. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Monday at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow.
LLOYD – Services for Sam D. Lloyd of Van Ormer will
be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, by the
Rev. William L. Kemp. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Utahville.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until time of services Monday at
the funeral home.
