General:
According to this census Joseph was labled as "deaf and dum b", yet besides raising a large family, he also owned and o perated his own farm.
It appears that something happend to Harriet (age 53) af ter the July 13, 1860 census, probably death, if so Josep h (age 67) because of his physical limitations would hav e been unable to care for the younger children. His child ren went to live with other family or were domestic servant s. Joseph died prior to the 1865 census.
