Charles Ferguson
Information taken from notes of the Ferguson Family Bible states that a one Charles Ferguson is
the first known Ancester. It also states that he was married to a one Mary, last name unknown,
and that their children were:
1.
Robert
Ferguson (11 Aug 1762 - 24 Oct 1805)
2. Tamer Ferguson (4 Jun 1767 - )
3. Rachel Ferguson (20 Aug 1771 - )
4. Issac Ferguson (3 Nov 1775 - )
5. Rachel Ferguson (20 Sep 1778 - )
6. David Ferguson (1 Aug 1781 - )
7. Clark Ferguson (24 Jun 1786 - 3 Nov 1864)
The file info goes back to Thomas's grandfather in Chesterfield Twsp (Burlington County) (Charles, who first appears in a tax list in 1774). The info is from a family bible so probably pretty accurate.
NOTE From other sources
On this page I will include information on several Fergusons that I have found in the approximate area and time frame.
There is a Charles Ferguson who married a Mary Kincheloe. According to an 1850 census she was 90 years old and born in NJ but living in Ohio. That would have her being born around 1760. The known children of this family is as follows:
1. Rachel Ferguson
2. Isaac Ferguson
3. David Ferguson
4. Clark Ferguson
5. Hannah Ferguson
6. Mary Ferguson
7. Charles Ferguson (24 Jun 1786 - 3 Nov 1864)
Many of their children married persons who were from Burlington County NJ. This line of Fergusons were Quakers. They moved to Va and then on to Ross County Ohio.
This Charles had a will dated April 1816 and in that will it stated he had a sister named Lone Gideon Ferguson.
Now if this was the family then Mary would have been too young to have had Robert, Tamer and the first Rachel. Some of the names of the children match. Could this Charles have been a brother to Robert? Or could mary have been a second wife or could her age have been listed incorrectly in the census?

Now are any or all of these Ferguson’s related? Is the Charles Ferguson listed here the Charles I am Looking for? Could Hannah have had a nickname of Mary? But then it puts them in Glouchester not Burlington County. We know that the names Skill and Wilkens were used for middle names in future generations.
Finelly we Have this. I found this and would love to be able to view the whole collection

Some Excerpts from the
Letterbooks of Asa Matlack
Pg. 575
Samuel Coles informed me that Jonathan Thomas kept tavern at the
house known
as The Corner House in or about the year 1748[or 3, unclear]
when he S.C.
first knew of it. Thomas removed to Burlington and then Charles
Ferguson
came next after Thomas in sd. Corner House a weaver who
[illegible word- my
guess - ] (married) John Glover's Mother. He then went to the
House of John
Ellis. While he lived at this house Thomas Land told Me he was
apprenticed
to him learning the weaving trade etc. in 1748.
Pg. 573
A scotchman [doubtless the aforementioned Charles Ferguson] married
John
Richard and William Glovers mother. He was a weaver and lived
sometime in
Samuel Coles House near Joseph Frenches Mill.
Pg. 574
Daniel German and wife(who was an Irishwoman) was the next at
the Corner
House and went to complain of John Cowperthwaite for scratching
her face.
Then Thomas then Ferguson.
