March 3, 2001 WHISENHUNT~WHISENANT~WHISNANT

Well it has been a busy time for all indeed. As most of you know we merged and renamed the family website to Whisenant/Whisenhunt/Whisnant Family Website. Donnie Whisenant and Barbara Whisenant became additional site administrators. The name change does not exclude any other various spellings but we didn't quite know how to get all of them in. If you are of a different spelling we encourage you to promote your line. We would like to have active members from each and every various spelling. Also about this time Myfamily.com decided to reduce our amount of storage space from 75 megs to 5 megs or start charging for the website. Donnie and Barbara were able to move a lot of material to a website that is linked to the family website as archives. If you click on the scrolling announcement at the top of the Family web page it will take you to those links. You can also access those links in the File Cabinet section under Web Pages for Whisenant/Whisenhunt/Whisnant. Also, under the file cabinet section, a post called "Browse Our Archive Site." Thanks to Barbara and Donnie for all their hard work we will not have to pay Myfamily.com any charges. We will keep the amount of material posted on the Family website down under the 5megs they have allowed us.

A new Family Connection File has been posted. Hopefully this will help all of us know where the other members are linked. If you have been missed please send us your information and we will be glad to include you. We encourage you to take a look at these files and make contact with others researching your lines.

A new Family File has been posted in the File Cabinet if you want to download it. Also, it has been posted in the Online Family Trees section for you to view. The file has been set up so that every ember can go in and edit or add information in it To edit it go to the section called Online Family Tree. Click on the file Family File by Sheila Barnson. The file will load with a pedigree of Francois Visinand. At the top of the page is a tool bar where you will see edit, view, search, etc, click on search, click on list of all individuals, this takes a while to load, scroll down to the name you are looking for and click on it. Up on the tool bar again will be edit, view etc. If you click on edit you can change info about that person. If you click on add you can add a spouse, children and parents. Please check out your family info. If you make any changes please let us know so we can up date our files.

This is not strictly just Whise….., I have included several parallel lines such as McRaes, Bells and many others. If you wish just a part of it let us know and we will see if we can extract the information you are looking for.

We are always open to new suggestion on how to improve the site and meet out members needs. We have a few new plans.

1. A question or tip of the month will be posted. If you have tips or questions about anything send them in to your administrators and we will post them. Please ask or share your questions or tips no matter how insignificant you may think they are. Some one else out there may be wanting to know what you know or have the same questions you do. A tip of the month and a question of the month section has been added to the Post new section. If you have a question or tip, just post news like you normally would and down towards the bottom of the page will be a place that says select category for this news, click on the appropriate box and save. Create your own categories.
2. We are thinking about a mailing list. For those of you who don't know about them they are kind of like a bulletin board to post questions or info you might have found or anything else. It is then mailed to everyone on the list. This way every one on the mailing list will get an e-mail about your post. I belong to several mailing lists and get a lot of information from them. If you are interested in finding out about mailing lists for a specific state, county or subject rootsweb has a list of different mail lists at http://lists.rootsweb.com/
3. Please go into the Member Profile and fill it out. Post a pic of your self. This helps all of us get to know each other better. A while back I received an e-mail from one of our members who had gone into member profiles and found her and I had a lot of things in common even though we did not come from the same lines. A great friendship has developed. If you need any help contact one of your administrators.
4. If you have a Personal Website you would like posted on the Family site send it to Barbara Westman. She has will be glad to add it to the list of family website for all to easily access.
5. Check out the Poll Section. It is great to see what others think.
6. Share your discoveries, even if they don't have anything to do with your line. I was on line this am and found a listing for a gene pool at ancestry.com with lots of information on it.

A couple of success stories:
Grace Maxwell Sparrow was looking for a Whisenhant connection. By looking on Raymonds page at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~whisnant she was able to find the connection. See The Family Connection File.
Danny Stover was looking for Eliza Whisenhunt who married Edward Stover also see connection file.

Let us know of connections you have made or family members who you have made connections with.

Remember you are all welcome to invite new members, but please introduce them.

Thank you all for helping making this family website such a success.
