Worley Wheatley was born 02 December 1883 in Ellis County, Texas. Worley was about 17 years old when her father, Pierce, moved with his family to the Pleasant Grove area near Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas. Shortly after moving there Worley met a young widower, Bena G. Dickey.
Bena G. Dickey was the son of James W. "Jim" Dickey and Henrietta "Retta" Tolbert. He was born 13 November 1877 in Hunt County, Texas. He married Ella Moore 29 August 1897 in Wood County, Texas. Bena and Ella had two sons, Travis Dewey Dickey and Hubert Dickey. Hubert was born 09 June 1900. His mother died shortly after his birth on 19 June 1900. Hubert died 20 October 1900. Ella Moore Dickey and Hubert are buried in Hopewell Cemetery in Wood County, Texas. Bena was left with 2 year old, Travis, to raise.
Travis Dewey Dickey was born 21 September 1898 in Wood County, Texas. He married Ollie Rich 21 June 1930 in Dallas County, Texas. They were the founders of Dickey's Barbecue. Travis died 07 December 1967 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. Ollie was nearly 92 years old when she died on 11 December 2000 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.
Worley Wheatley married Bena G. Dickey 14 July 1901 in Wood County, Texas (Vol: D, p: 318). She was 18 years old and had a husband and young son to raise.
