Pierce Henry Wheatley was born 29 June 1840 in Tennessee, most likely in Henderson County. (1840 census) He was the son of Thomas G. Wheatley and Milly Frances Johnson.

Pierce lived at home with his parents in district 4 in Henderson county in 1850 when the census was taken. The family was enumerated as Whitley on this record. 16 year old Sam Brown Whitley, 15 year old George Whitley, 14 year old Frances Whitley and 13 year old James Whitley were also listed with Thomas and Milly.

Pierce Henry married (1) Sarah [-?-] 1857 - 1858. Sarah was born circa 1836 in Tennessee. Pierce, Sarah and their infant daughter, Mary Ella Wheatley lived in district 4 in Henderson county in 1860. Jacks Creek was the post office that was recorded in this document.

Mary Ella Wheatley was born 26 March 1856. She married R. O. Milam 11 June 1878 in Ellis County, Texas. The Milam family moved to the Pleasant Grove community in Wood County by 1900 and lived there until the later part of 1906 when they moved to Winnsboro. They had been there a few months when R. O. was involved in a gunfight with the city marshall and his brother. W. A. Milam , Mary Ella and R. O.'s son, was a fireman in Dallas. He made the trip to Winnsboro to visit his parents and attend his sister's wedding. He arrived on the train at 12:50 on that fateful day and became involed in the shootout. R. O. Milam was shot and instantly killed 02 February 1907. Amos and Jack Wooford died within a few days from their injuries. W. A. Milam was shot in the stomach. He succumbed 11 February 1907. Mary Ella Wheatley Milam died 05 December 1937 in Shreveport, Caddo Parrish, Louisianna. R. O., Mary Ella, Willie A. and Willard C. Milam buried in Hopewell Cemetery. Willie A. (W. A.) Milam is the only one with a tombstone.

Pierce and Sarah had two other daughters who were born after the 1860 census was enumerated. Eveline Wheatley was born 14 April 1862 and died 14 days later. Henraetta Wheatley was born 14 April 1863. Sarah Wheatley died 24 November 1864 in Henderson County, Tennessee. According to family history, Sarah and Eveline are buried in Wheatley Cemetery. Henraetta Wheatley died 21 July 1895 in Ellis County, Texas and is buried in the Boren Cemetery in Ellis County, Texas.

Pierce Henry married (2) Mary E. "Bettie" Wright 21 August 1865 in Maury County, Tennessee #5212

Mary E. "Bettie" Wright was born 22 January 1845 in Tennessee. I do not have documentaion but it looks like she was the daughter of Thompson and Nancy Daimwood Wright of Maury County, Tennessee.

Pierce and Mary E. Wheatley lived in district 4 in Henderson county, Tennessee in 1870. They left Tennessee and lived in Precinct 1, Ellis County, Texas when the 1880 and 1900 census records were enumerated. We do not know what drew them to Wood County, Texas but several children lived there in the early 1900s. We assume they were there by 1901.

They are buried in Hopewell Cemetery near Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas.
