Margaret Jemima "Maggie" Tillman

bar jpg

Margaret Jemima "Maggie" Tillman was born 23 January 1857 in Texas. She was the daughter of Green B Tillman and Adeline A. Underwood. Margaret was one of seven Tillman children who were enumerated in the Green and Adeline Tilman household when the 1860 Upshur County, Texas was taken. Delilah, Jason and John were Green's children from his first marriage. James, Margaret, Lois and the male baby were the children born to Green and Adeline Tilman.

We do not know if young Margaret remained in Upshur County during the War Between the States. Her father enlisted in the Confederacy 1 March 1863. He was assigned to 17th Texas Cavalry Company G and served until the unit was disbanded on 12 May 1865.

I have not found the Tillman family in the 1870 census. Lydia A. Tillman would have been another sibling enumerated in that record and Margaret named a daughter after that sister.

Margaret Jemima Tillman married William Isaac Williams 20 September 1877 in Upshur County, Texas. He was born 09 May 1857 in Alabama. According to family history, he was an orphan and the name is so common I have been unable to track him in census record.
